CHAIRMAN’S CHAT
The New Year has hit the ground running. Every year it seems to run faster
and faster. As I write this the first month has already passed by and we are
well into the second. For me, personally, it has been a busy first month with a
business trip to India. I attended a conference in Mumbai. The conference
was very interesting and productive but, more importantly, the photography
was amazing! It is not the kind of place you would recommend to everybody
for a holiday. There is rubbish everywhere and a rather unpleasant odour
hangs in the air. But it is a land of contrasts, untold wealth lives side by side
with unspeakable poverty. Dark, dirty colours contrast with rich bright
fabrics.
I love photographing people and there are plenty of opportunities to do that
kind of photography. There are interesting faces there, lots of them. The
middle aged to elderly women were particularly interesting, but they were
very reluctant to have their photographs taken. The children, on the other
hand, wanted their photographs taken and would follow me around until I took
their picture. That wasn’t a problem really except when you were really
wanting to take more interesting images!
The living conditions in some areas made for excellent photojournalism type
images and in those same areas were the most interesting people to
photograph. I never got much further than about a kilometre from my hotel,
and I never had more than about 6 hours of photography, but I thoroughly
enjoyed every minute of it. I often wonder, if I wasn’t a photographer, would
I venture into those areas of decay and poverty. They are not pretty. But I
did come away very satisfied that I had experienced real India, not tourist
India. I was also happy with my pics!
I would like to urge all members to come to the club meetings regularly. It
seems that other pressures have forced members to scale down on
photography. Sometimes we need to escape from our busy lives to do
something we enjoy. This may take a bit of an effort but it is worth it.
There can be nothing better than being creative with our cameras or even
just sitting back and appreciating good images.
Look forward to seeing you soon.
Colin

RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE
1. Select Canvas (Frame) Size under the heading “Image” in Photoshop if you wish to add a
boarder to the image and make your adjustements. If you do not wish to add a boarder, go to
Step 2.
2. Select Image Size under the heading “Image” in Photoshop. Tick the following boxes: Scale
Styles, Constrain Proportions and Resample Image.
3. The maximum size of the image must not exceed 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels high.
4. When resizing a horizontal image (Landscape) enter 1920 pixels in the Width Box and the
vertical size will be adjusted automatically if you have ticked the “Resample Image” box. If
the vertical size is 1080 pixels or less, the resizing is correct. If the vertical adjusts to a value
more than 1080 pixels (say 1096 pixels) then adjust the vertical size to 1080 pixels and the
horizontal size will automatically reduce to below 1920 pixels if you have ticked the
“Resample Image” box.
5. When resizing a vertical impage (Portrait) enter 1080 pixels in the Height Box. The value in
the Width Box will change automatically to match the original image if you have ticked the
“Resample Image” box.
6. The maximum image data file size is 1,500Kilobytes in the JPEG format. Note that if a border
is added to the image, this must be added before resizing and reducing the file size to a
maximum of 1,500 Kilobytes to ensure that the image remains within the specified 1,500Kb.
7. It is recommended that the image be displayed in the sRGB Colour Profile. This can be
selected in the camera or changed in Photoshop under Edit/Convert to Profile.
