My Chosen track

Idea 1:After much research my first idea for my music video is to produce a performance based piece showing off the band. I will shoot in both the studio and on location for this linking back to the information I found from my questionnaire.

The 1975 use studio styled work in a lot of their videos, I wanted to use this in my own idea as it shows of the band. I also liked the background to the bottom image and may experiment with something similar. The 1975 Girls, Sex

Indie bands also can use footage of them out, making their videos more personal with their fans and linking with the cool atmosphere. These two images show two indie bands out in a car. After looking into the genre, music videos and asking my target audience I have decided to include black and white in my music video however I didnt want to make it all black and white so I want to place pops of colour in there as well going against the genres conventions, these shots will most likely be shown within the studio.

Breaking the conventions much like The 1975 did in their music video girls I wanted to include some bright colours within my music video. The badly drawn stick men show a split screen shot showing each member of the band with their instruments and a different coloured bright background.

However most of my video will be black and white like many other indie music videos. Cage the Elephant Cigarette dreams

Like the 1975 music video girls I have taken inspiration upon a pop music video for my colour. Mcflys song Love is on the Radio uses powder paint to add colour to its music video, I thought I could experiment with this on the drums in the studio.

In terms of editing for this idea I wanted to show different editing techniques based upon research I have found.In terms of following the conventions of this genre, I wanted to include straight cuts and thought beats within my music video. After studying The Arctic Monkeys music video Arabella I wanted to experiment with rewinding parts of my music video in the editing process. I also wanted to experiment with speed slowing and speeding moments up. I think a slow motion shot would look particularly good with the pops of powder paint I wanted to use. Mcfly Love is on the Radio

Idea 2:My second idea for my music video will be more narrative based with hints of performance. I will again show my band in the studio but will also show a storyline giving snippets of a life in my video. After researching many music videos and looking back on my questionnaire I felt a narrative based music video would work with my track however I didnt want it to turn into a short film so I will include some performance basis from the band. Much like a lot of music videos I wanted my narrative to be linked to love. I want to show a relationship but link it with the convection of rougher locations and characters in my video much like Arctic Monkeys When the sun Goes Down video about a girl. The Music video Love the way you lie tells the story of a toxic relationship I want to portray something similar in my music video. The video will also be non episodic showing snippets from the characters life that could be from different days.

Initial thoughts and idea show both scenes of the couple arguing and happy. Shoot scenes on multiple locations e.g. a car, house.

Indie bands are often associated with drink, smoking and drug use, I want to portray this convention within my music video by showing my two protagonists drinking and smoking. Another convention I will use within these scenes are close ups of this. I feel like these sort of shots will show a relationship at breaking point.

Rihanna we found love show a toxic relationship. This close up shows Rihanna in the bath. Indie Band The Strokes music video shows typical bad behaviour such as smoking and drinking. Arctic Monkeys Whyd you only call me when youre high shows the use of drugs.

DISCODEINE FEAT JARVIS COCKER SYNCHRONIZE shows both smoking and drugs, I chose to include this because I liked this particular shot.

I want experiment with both natural colour and black and white within this music video. In terms of the narrative parts I also wanted to experiment with speed slowing and speeding up moments of arguments or desperation. My two main characters will both be young as I feel this links in with the bands genre and their target audience. The female main character will very subtly have a sex appeal through clothing/camera work.

Love the way you lie used famous actress Megan Fox in their video to add sex appeal, her clothing although not sexy also shows of her skin.

Arctic Monkeys When the Sun Goes Down naturalistic lights adds to the realism of the storyline however using a black and white theme could add the dramatic feel of the video and genre.

The band will be shown in black and white in the studio. I will use a range of close ups showing members of the band and shots that show the whole band together.

The 1975 Sex shoots the band showing of members in close ups and the band as a whole, I will do something like this for my video if I used this idea.

Bands Style Going against the conventions the band wear bright clothing linking in with the pop genre. The band wear vintage looking jumpers and shirts, alongside black jeans and brogues/Chelsea boots. The band have a casual style of skinny jeans along side plain t-shirts, sometimes with logos on, denim jackets/bomber jackets and boots. The band wear dark clothing, ripped skinny jeans and leather jackets with Doc Martins.
