Child First Nursery and Pre School onLaunton Road was once a factory building.Perhaps not an architectural gem on theoutside but inside is a world where the

children learn through play. They grow their ownvegetables, have seven ducks, incubated and hatchedfrom eggs, better still, the children only eat organicfood freshly prepared by our chef.

One hundred and four years so far ofBritish Summer Time also known asDaylight Saving Time, first proposed bya keen horse-rider, William Willett, who

was incensed at the ‘waste’ of useful daylight firstthing in the morning, during summer. Though the sunhad been up for hours during his rides through thelocal woods in Chislehurst and Petts Wood, peoplewere still asleep in bed.

British Summer Time begins on the 25th March

In 1907 he published a pamphlet called The Wasteof Daylight, outlining plans to encourage people outof bed earlier in summer by changing the time on thenation’s clocks. He spent the rest of his life fighting toget acceptance of his time-shifting scheme. He died in1915 with the Government still refusing to back BST.

But the following year, Germanyintroduced the system. Britainfollowed in May 1916, and

adopted Daylight SavingTime in 1916, a few weeks

after Germany. For years,the British Government hadrefused to introduce DaylightSaving Time, but by then,

Britain and Germany werefighting each other in the FirstWorld War (1914-18) and any

system that could save fuel andmoney was worth trying. The Summer Time Act of1916 was rushed through by Parliament and the firstday of British Summer Time, 21 May 1916, waswidely reported in the press and we have been‘changing the clocks’ ever since. Don’t forget to moveforward your clocks and watches on Sunday the 25thMarch at 01:00 GMT (02:00 British Standard Time).

Barnett Motorsport:Developments for 2012

After a successful 2011 season in whichRob managed to remain in the top 10 ofthe Championship before dropped scores,despite not contesting all the races. Barnett

Motorsport once again teamed up with Dawn GPfor the Birkett relay. This unique endurance event washeld on the full Silverstone GP circuit and saw over60 teams battle it out over 6 hours. All the MR2scompeting showed signs of a hard fought seasonand the ensuing gremlins meant that to repeat 2010’spodium finish became impossible. All have vowed toreturn again next season and go for the class win.

The MR2 is at Briar Hill Engineering ready for repairsand upgrades before racing again. In 2012 Rob willbe racing in selected rounds of the 750 MotorclubToyota MR2 Championship again plus he has agreed

to team up with fellow former Towcestrian SimonGreen for the first time since 2010. Simon said ’I'mreally pleased to be, once again, joining BarnettMotorsport for a number of races this year. Havingnot raced last season I’m keen to get back behind thewheel and look forward to the challenge the CSCCFuture Classics Series offers; a new venture for all atBarnett Motorsport.‘
