For nearly 40 years, the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International, has been championing the success of the metal processing, forming, and fabricating industry from our home base in Rockford, Ill.

Our objective is to help you achieve success within your own company. We do this in many ways. For example:

•Offeringmembercompaniesprogramsthatwillsavethemmoney.Agoodexample is our cooperative buying program (through Prime Advantage). With a money-back guarantee, your one-time $1,000 sign-up fee can net you tens of thousands in savings on things like steel, packing and shipping supplies, lubricants, MRO supplies, office supplies, computers, and more. When operations cost less, you make more with every sale.

•Providinghigh-quality,deepcontenttrainingdeliveredinwhatevermethodfits your company best. Whether public seminars, custom on-site programs, or on-demand Web-based training makes the most sense, you can choose. Ourgoalistohelpyouhireandmaintainthehighestqualityskilledworkforce possible. We even offer certification so you can validate the skills your workers achieve through training.

•Providingtoolstohelpyoustayaheadoftrendsandmakegooddecisionsfor your business. Our magazines – The FaBricaTor, TPJ-The Tube & Pipe Journal, STamPing Journal, Practical Welding Today and canadian industrial machinery – deliver the most in-depth technical content in the industry. And special publications, like Fabrinomics; our economic analysis e-newsletter for business decision-makers and chief concerns, the quarterlyforcompanyownersandmanagers, providenotjustfacts, but insights into how to use the facts to make the right choices for your company.Allofthesepublicationsfocusontheuniqueneedsofbusinessescompeting in the metal forming and fabricating marketplace. The FABTECH International & AWS Welding Show, including METALFORM, which we co-sponsor, brings fabricators and machine tool builders together annually.

There are also networking opportunities, research services, a job board, other cost-saving programs, and a chance for you to enhance your leadership role in the industry through volunteer service. Whether you’re in your 20s and just starting your career, or you’re an established industry professional, participation with FMA or TPA can help you, your company, and all of your employees shine.

This catalog provides an overview of the many opportunities our organization offers.

Member ProgramsNowhere to turn when you need assistance?

Small companies often feel this way. They know they don’t have the buying power of a big company when it comes to dealing with raw material suppliers, utilities, and other services. More than 50 percent of FMA and TPA member companies have fewer than 100 employees. Our membership programs were designed to help small companies.

Saving money in overhead and operational costs means you can price your products more competitively or increase your profi t – both are great options in today’s competitive global marketplace. Turn the page for more details.

“The Safety.BLr resource is an excellent tool for our safety committee. We’ve printed posters to hang in our plant and distributed the safety newsletters to employees. it’s a great timesaver.” – Nora Eberl, CFO, Eberl Iron Works Inc., Buffalo, N.Y.

“We are experts in steel processing; that is our core business. although we are very smart about our buying decisions, sometimes we need input from other experts. our initial audit found a refund in excess of $80,000, plus additional ongoing savings which made spending the time necessary to fi nd energy savings worth every minute. i would recommend the aPPi Savings Solutions Program to other Fma members.” – Jack Love, CFO, Feralloy Corporation, Portland, Ore.

Terms of service begin each year in October with the FMA Annual Membership Meeting. Review the Call for Nomination found on fmanet.org/nominate, then complete a nomination form. The annual nomination deadline is June 30.

Teach a ClassIf you have technical skills and a penchant for teaching others, there are dozens of opportunities to participate as an FMA instructor. It’s a great opportunity to build your professional credentials, bring visibility to your company, and share best practices with others whose interests parallel your own.

Host an EventFMA and TPA events are located around North America every year. Some of the most popular events we’ve ever held have been at fabricatingshopsandequipment manufacturing facilities. Everyone loves to get into another manufacturing facility and see how it works! If your company would be willing to host an event, you’ll be facilitating networking and best practices exchange for your industry colleagues.

Participate in a Survey FMA and TPA produce the Cost of Doing Business Survey, and a machine tool inventory. The more volunteer companies that participate in these surveys, the broader the data and the more valuable the survey results. As a participating Advantage-level member, you get the compiled survey results free!

Help Young People Reach Their Career GoalsNuts, Bolts & ThingamajigsSM, the Foundation of FMA processes hundreds of scholarship applications and manufacturing camp grant applications each year. These applications are scored by teams of industry professionals, working from their own offices or homes and communicating electronically. It’s a great volunteer opportunity for someone with limited time, but a desire to contribute to the future of the industry.

Mentor a Student or Young ProfessionalConcerned about the future of your industry? There’s no better way to share the knowledge you’ve accumulated over your career than to help someone just getting started.

Many of you have young employees you can mentor right in your own shop. But if you don’t, and you’d like to serve as a mentor for a student preparing for a career in manufacturing, just contact FMA. We can help you connect to a student who will benefit from your professional expertise.

Certified Education Centers Bring FMA Training & Testing Close to You The Certified Education Center (CEC) network brings industry training resources close to you. With 20 centers already, and more added annually, the network is expanding across North America.

Each CEC serves as a testing center for FMA’s Precision Sheet Metal Certification Program. Several CECs have adopted FMA’s PSMO Certification in their fabrication curriculum. In addition, they may host an FMA technical training program annually, and offer fabrication and welding training to meet the needs of their local employer base. They are also committed to introducing young people in their region to manufacturing careers.

To have your area college or technical school considered for inclusion in the FMA Certified Education Center network, call toll-free 888-394-4362 or 815-399-8700.

“ i just wanted to thank you for another great year that my daughter had at your camp. She loved working with all the tools and machines to create different projects. i’m a single mom and this camp is not only good for my daughter’s mechanical/engineering abilities, but it’s also helpful toward my fi nances, since it’s free.”

— Mary Mobijohn, parent of summer manufacturing camp attendee at Girls Get S.M.A.R.T. (Summer Manufacturing and Robotics Training) Ulster BOCES Career & Technical Education Center, New Paltz, N.Y.

Camps For Kids

Did your city make the list?

Grants from Nuts, Bolt & ThingamajigsSM helped organizers in these towns run manufacturing summer camps this year that turned their teens on to tinkering. Contact a nonprofit or a technical school in your area and encourage them to apply at NutsAndBoltsFoundation.org/Grants. Add your city to the list—and be a hero in your community!

Post-Secondary Scholarships

Scholarships of up to $5,000 from Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs help college and trade school students learn to weld, operate press brakes, and become engineers. Provide a scholarship through your gift to NBT— and be a hero in your industry!

“i’m grateful to be the recipient of a prestigious nBT scholarship. This fall, i’ll be returning to the University of minnesota to pursue an engineering degree, and this will offset some of my costs. once again, i’d like to express my thanks for this generous gift.” — Megan Feil

“When i found out i’d received the scholarship i felt like the people on those commercials who’ve won the lottery. i was bouncing around the house and couldn’t wait to tell my family the amazing news!”

— Lauren Hockin, engineering student at The University of Western Ontario and officer in Engineers Without Borders
