eaders of the New Cool was an event that brought together hip hops future s u -perstars under one roof at 57 West. On the local scene, Slim-E, Joe Clark,

Prote-J, Atiba, Carlyle and Evan Roberts wowed the crowd with some of the best displays of talent this city has ever seen. Local hip hop is frequently overlooked in Or-lando and these artists made everyone reevaluate their assumptions. Some of the national, more repu-table acts included Rich Hil, Laws and Rich Kids who

really mingled with the people and showed Orlando serious love. Good hip hop was a recurring theme for

the evening and it was refreshing to see industry people and just plain fans come together and

support an event that stays true to the roots of it’s genre. Big shout out to Hollywood

East, Shelly Flash, 102 JAMZ, PPlus Magazine, Flyer Promo Now, Ajust Entertainment, Colour-

ful Money, Mel, Jessie Maguire, Core DJs, Christina Clark & more for making it all happen!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE THAT IS INTERESTED IN CUSTOMIZATIONS OR CREATING A SIMILAR COMPANY SUCH AS EYM?

Do the research and don’t be afraid to ask questions; Always be true to who you are and you ideas, when it comes down to it only you can control your future.

WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCE?SBTG, He is like the Michael Jordan of Custom

design, I love that he takes time to speak and have forums with other custom artist coming up in the business, hopefully one day someone will feel like that about me.

I HAVE TO KNOW THIS, TELL ME 3 CD’S IN YOUR CAR RIGHT NOW?

(Cracks up) never been asked that before…1.Creedance Clearwater Rival 2.Little Wayne Mixtape & 3.Drake I’m very eclectic

DO YOU GUYS HAVE ANY SHOUT OUTS AT THIS TIME?

First and foremost, GOD, My family (Who I love dearly), Jae Johnson & The Firm, Monty, Dwight(New Age Goonies), Emilio Torres, Tammara Kohler, & all my Clients…Love yall!!

Follow them….. Twitter @EYMCustomsMySpace.com/[email protected] coming soon

FOR THOSE THAT DON’T KNOW, WHAT IS EYM CUSTOMS?

(He laughs) I’m sorry but I always laugh when people ask me that, EYM stands for (Employ Your Mind). A couple of years ago when I lost my job I decided the only way I could be successful was not get myself employed but to Employ my mind and let my passion work for me instead of me working for my passion. We customize Heel, sneakers, DJ Equipment, anything that someone wants custom-ized we do it.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN BUSINESS AND WHAT MADE YOU GET INTO THIS TYPE OF BUSINESS?

(Smiles) I have been in business for just a year but I have been very blessed, All my life I have done graffi ti and designs and since artwork is something I love doing I fi gured it would be the perfect combination for me. I have always loved kicks (sneakers) and found it diffi cult to get colors the way I liked it so I just started designing my own and the rest is history.

I LIKE YOUR STYLE WHERE ARE YOU FROM?(Laughs) People always think I’m from New

York but I was actually born in Boston (shout out to Boston) and grew up in Kissimmee, so I defi nitely consider Orlando my Home.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE SECRET TO THE SUCCESS OF THE COMPANY?

Honestly there is no secret to my success, I never thought it could happen as a business and it was always just a hobby, something to do for me and my friends. I have just put faith in God and let him take me to the next level; I feel I will always be successful because it’s a “Labor of Love” and as long as I am doing something I enjoy then I’m SUCCESSFUL.

If you think that you are the Talk of Orlando, you can submit your information to [email protected] subject line “I am the Talk of Orlando”

Twirl me tender, twirl me sweet…never twirl me alone! As I twirl on to nd something dif-ferent to do in Orlando, I come across a cut-

ting-edge hair show taking place in August. In the time where hair shows are becoming so frequent in this city, this particular show has set itself apart from the rest. This isn’t your typical & predictable hair cutting show…this is “Clash of the Barbers”.

“Clash of the Barbers” is set to take place August 8, 2010 at the Universal Doubletree Hotel. This skillful competition is opened to all licensed pro-fessionals, and encourages these pros to step out the box and really show their designing talents. Participants have three categories to compete in with each having large cash prizes. Such catego-ries include “Clash of the Barber Showcase” where they will be judged on the overall presentation.

There’s also the “Barbers Freestyle” where they will be judged on their spontaneous creativity. The “Fastest Cutter Face-O ” is quite self explana-tory and very exciting to watch in action! Such an

extraordinary event was created to “allow barbers the opportunity to showcase their talents among their colleagues and to educate the barber and beauty industry of new techniques and styles” says the producer of this event Life, of Lifeline Ent. “This is a modern contemporary graphic design com-petition” he explains to me. Of courseski, there is more to this than just the competitions!

At “Clash of the Barbers” you will also nd an ar-ray of beauty vendors selling products at 20%-50% o . There is also a list of entertainment that will be taking place, such as the Set It O Models swim-suit fashion show, live performances by PI Bang, Sho Boy, Khalia, and many more. And to make the night go as smoothly and as funny as possible, the whole evening is hosted by All Pro’s very own co-median, Jersey along with Miss Hope.

No matter if you’re in the hair industry or you just simply love beauty, this is certainly one cut-ting competition you don’t want to miss your twirl on!

TAY BABY THIS IS YOUR 3RD MAGAZINE COVER WHY DO U FEEL ITS IMPORTANT TO STAY NOTICED?

So i won't be forgotten, cause u know what they say out of sight out of mind.

WHAT PROJECTS/EVENTS ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW AND WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT IN THE FUTURE FROM YOU?

I’m Performing @ Prince’s B-day Bash Aug 8 @ Firestone Nightclub also One Cash and Bedo will be performing, I also have a video shoot Aug. 18th @ Firestone Nightclub, a mixtape dropping in a few weeks with DJ Crazi Yogi and Mercedes Streets called “4 and a Tay Baby” and me and my partner One Cash dropping our mixtape Cash & Da Baby! Also be on the lookout for the Young Jones Mixtape called Indiana Jones im on dat too.

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO PROMOTE YOUR UPCOMING PROJ-ECTS/EVENTS?

Word of mouth, yers, magazines, posters, internet and anything else that my peoples would bring to my atten-tion that sounds good.

YOU HAVE A VERY ANTICIPATED MIXTAPE "DA BABY OFF DA BRICK" WHO WILL BE HOSTING THAT FOR YOU?

Right now i narrowed it down to two DJ's, either Don Cannon or DJ Holiday.

I'VE ALSO HEARD YOU HAVE A MIXTAPE ABOUT TO RELEASE WITH A UPCOMING ARTIST "ONE CASH" TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT THAT?

It's gone be fye! Me and my dawg got great chemistry together and we been down for a long time. Plus we done been through a lot shit together and u can feel our struggles and success through our music.

ONE CASH HOW DID U MEET TAY BABY AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN RAPPING?

Tay been my partner since we was jits through high school... i been freestylin at parties an in my mamas driveway an recording on cascette tapes since i was bout 16.. Tay introduced me to Pro Tools an kept telling me to at least attempt to make the transition from the streets.. to this music biz cause he felt like a nigga had talent... He jumped out the gate running with his whole movement... while i worked on my project but really spent the major-ity of my time an focus keeping the less legitimate side of

Cash and

our partnership up an running.. We been up an down in these streets together.. An been making music together since day one... Its Just our Prioritys had been di erent... Until Now

WHAT DO YOU THINK IT TAKES FOR A NEW ARTIST TO BE NOTICED?

To tell you the truth... i dont really know. I dont know much about the marketing or promotions side of the mu-sic biz, if thats what your asking... I feel like its a lot of ass kissing with these industry people an I just come from something di erent than that. Most of what you hear and what you see is smoke an mirrors.. I see these so called "Gangsta Rappers" out in the streets talking about a lotta stu they dont do or dont have and about a fantasy life that they dont live. I feel like if your gonna be noticed as an artist. Let your music be honest an come from your heart. not what you think other people want to hear.

WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE MIXTAPE YOU HAVE OUT NOW?The Debut Album is Grind Money. In short... because thats how im livin... an if thats what you come from then you'll relate.

WHAT PRODUCERS AND OTHER RAPPERS HAVE YOU WORKED WITH ON YOUR MIXTAPE?

Yall mite not know this but tay baby produces the major-ity of our tracks... Also the homie BJ Beats and DJ Fish contributed as well I think i got one feature besides that. My Partner Rell-Skeet.. one time for Skeet

BEING THAT YOU ARE A NEW ARTIST WHAT DO YOU THINK MAKES YOU DIFFERENT THEN EVERYONE ELSE?

Like i said before my music is honest. I aint tryin to portray an image to people because i think its gonna sell.. I do me.. An aint nobody out here live life like me... granted.. street niggas can relate. but I've we all been through di erent situations an my music is just a re ec-tion of the life I live. An weather you agree or disagree with the topics of my songs or the content of my lyrics... What makes me di erent and a respectable artist is Honesty. I rap what i know and what I come from. I try have a nigga see what its like to walk in my shoes when he listens to my music.

I know all through winter I could not stop talking about the summer. I don’t know about you, but I am not impressed by record breaking temperatures.

I’ve find myself trying to stay as cool as possible these days, and that includes finding the coolest parties to attend. Yes, it ’s great that the summer time brings about parties outside, but with temperatures like these…I need to shake my tail-feather in the A/C! So where did I do just that this week? Check out these hot parties I was sure to stay cool in.

FOAM PARTY

@ DESTINY

Honesty Stick? I certainly never thought I would end up at an event like this! However, since I have yet to experience a foam party here in Orlando, I couldn’t help myself. First let me say that Destiny is one of those venues that is quite hard to ll up. Very few promoters have been able to accomplish this. Yet, on this evening of soapy fun, Destiny was PACKED!!! This foam party turned into a dirty bubble bath! LOL. People were

soaked with bubbles, but they were having a blast. As I stand out on the sidelines trying to avoid the suds from touching me, I was impressed at the production of this event. At rst I had my holdbacks, but to see something di erent actually turn out successful was incredible to me. DJ Dev and DJ Koolaid really did their thing on the 1s and 2s. When I heard that this was an IOTA party, everything made sense! LOL. How else could you explain guys walking around with their wife beaters or shirts o …with their itty bitty chest…grinding on the girls….dancing in coordination…you know what I am talking about. Nevertheless, Powerhouse and KHEEP Ent have done it again with another successful event. I admire how they try to bring something di erent to the city. Such big faces in the building were City and Disco Jr.

VIP TUES 6 YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY

@ CLEOS

A couple years back, there was nothing else to do on a Tuesday night except for VIP Tuesdays, and it was THE place to be! Eddie B is the founder of VIP Tuesdays, and when you reminisce with him over the past six years, you hear him talk about big the “bosses” that use to come through. Anybody who was anybody was guaranteed to show face. It was the setting for any rap music video! So, it only made sense that on this anniversary celebration, there was nothing but bosses of the city in attendance. It was funny to watch how each “boss” sat in their own “area” and had their own “entourage” with them. Everything was classic Cleos; a plethora of dancers showcase their individual talents, rose bottles poppin, Goose bottles owing, “death shots” sippin. Yet, Cleos would not be Cleos if it wasn’t for their bad ass DJ and MC linup: Disco, DJ Caesar, DJ da DJ, DJ 4000, Gar eld, and even DJ Nasty was in the building!

As you can see, I certainly stay cool this week at the hottest parties. I blew bubbles at the foam party at Destiny and I shook what my mama gave me at Cleos. We still have a couple more weeks left in these summer months, and I am looking to party hard in the coolest places. A good pool party would be real on point right now…anybody know of one? Perhaps you have a hot event for the cool people. Or maybe you’re looking for a party to go to. Just send me an email [email protected]. Stay cool….

LET’S CELEBRATE!

Sources are reporting that T.I. and his

main squeeze Tiny are preparing to wed in a secret ceremony to be held in Miami. While the exact date is a little sketchy, Tiny is loooooong overdue for this union.

While rapper Rick Ross celebrated the release of his album “Teflon Don” he decided to bling out his attire by buying a few custom pieces

of jewelry. It doesn’t appear that his jewelry purchase came with a bra...

Christina Milan and The Dream, seen here in happier times are working out the terms of their impending divorce. It has been reported that The Dream filed for the divorce February 9, 2010, days before she gave birth to their child Violet.

And on to some much needed advice...

Dear Shannon,

I currently work in advertising and have built personal relationships with some of my clients over the years. Often times they discuss several personal matters in the middle of business, and I wanted to ask what is the best way to get them to stop speaking to me about certain things as it makes me uncomfortable.

-Professionally Speaking

Dear Professionally Speaking:

Business relationships that turn personal often lead to repeat business; however open the door to other matters you’d probably not have to deal with otherwise. When these situations come up, respectfully remind them of why you’re meeting in the rst place and due to new policies by management you think it’s best to discuss personal a airs outside of company time. They should get point then. Best of luck!

Page 24: FlyerPromoNow 41st Edition

The time has finally come, players have begun to re-port to training camp for the

2010-2011 NFL season. It’s time for the rookies to show why they deserve to be on the field and the veterans to show them how to do it. It’s hazing time. Dez Bryant of the Cowboys claims that he didn’t know that it is the rookie’s job to carry the veterans’ pads and refused to carry the pads for Roy Williams. Do I believe he didn’t know? No. Doesn’t everyone know that? Bryant says the media is pitting him against Williams. Sounds to me like there was some more hazing that took place to put him in his place. Lol. While some people may feel that hazing is unneces-sary and humiliating I disagree. I think it’s a way for the rookies to show and pay respect to the veterans.

Terrell Owens will be reporting to camp with the Bengals. I hope he makes something of this sea-

son because if not, this may very well be his last. Like his contract with the Buffalo Bills, T.O is signed on with the Bengals for only 1 year. I wonder how the combination of Ochocinco and Terrell is going to work. I know they

are friends and they get along. However they both feel that they should receive the ball all the time. Ochocinco claims that they can co-exist on the field together. I hope that T.O. can somehow manage to control his attitude and make this team work for him.

I’ll just have to wait and see. Just like the rest of the world I’m waiting to see

what Brett Favre decides to do. He is saying that he still doesn’t know. Hello Brett I get that you are a

BFD and all but seriously please don’t make this decision making a spectacle like the Lebron decision.

I haven’t fully decided if I’m going to play Fantasy Football this season be-cause I’m still a little bitter about how last season ended. If you play, then you know that it’s very crucial what number in the draft you get. If you don’t play fantasy but you love football you should try. It makes watching the games more important to you. To me it’s like being a coach with less stress and definitely less, well no, money. If you are going to give it a try make a list of all the players you want in the order you would like them for each position.

Think about who you feel will earn you the most points and pick them first. Also take into consider-ation the bye week. You don’t want to end up with majority of your roster on a bye the same week. Keep abreast with player injuries so you know who can and can’t play that week. Basically there are several ele-ments that go into managing a fantasy team but it is fun so go online find a league and enjoy.

In NBA news, Chris Paul still hasn’t announced what he plans to do about either staying or leaving the Hornets. Earlier in the week he said that he liked the direction the New Orleans Hornets franchise was planning to go. He needs help in New Or-leans if he stays there. I think it would make sense to go join Amare Stoudemire in New York with the Knicks. But I’m no GM, well at least not in the NBA. I am a general manager in life though because I call the shots and if you didn’t know; now you do.

This city is known for some heavy hit-ting promoters. Only a few promoters can not only remain relevant in this game, but also trail-blaze this game. Even fewer promoters can rock the parties on a weekly basis, and rock

the radio waves at the same time. In fact, there may be just one…Ricky Padilla. We rock with him on 102JAMZ as we get ready for his parties. We take shots with him at the clubs as he hosts his events. Not only is he quite humble, he’s quite insightful. Ricky is a perfect example on how you can come up in this industry. His focus, dedication, and eagerness have brought Ricky much success, exposure, and opportunity.

Page 27: FlyerPromoNow 41st Edition

WE ALL KNOW YOU STILL HAVE YOUR WEEKLY EVENTS, BUT YOU'VE BEEN OFF THE SCENE. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?I tore my Achilles twice! I’ve been on crutches since

January 3rd. I was hooping, my Achilles just popped on me and I just went to the ground. I had never felt a pain like that, ever in my life! I was going through the rehab, and everything was going good. The second day that the doctor told me I could wear a shoe, I slipped and tore my Achilles again. This just prolonged the process. Just two weeks ago I was able to come out of the boot; I’ve been wearing the boot for seven or eight months. I stayed o the scene cause (1) it was hard to walk around in the crutches and (2) everybody was asking what hap-pened, which I didn’t mind. But the negativity from people with them saying [things like] “Damn! Your life sucks!” LOL. And I am like “Ok, [jerk] I already know that! I’m going through it right now!” (he laughs).

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR MORNING FOX NEWS GIG. HOW DID YOU GET THAT?I met some of the people over at FOX when I judged

on the local American Idol [participants], and one of the ladies that worked there loved my personality. She took my phone number, we kept in contact. About a week later, she asked me how I felt about being on TV, and I was like “Yeah, let’s do it”. When I met up with her, she asked me if I would like to do some of the stu that I do on radio…talk about entertainment on TV. I was like “Yeah”. That was going on all the way up to December, when I tore my Achilles. I had to be up in the house with

my leg up for a month and a half; I didn’t go to work, I didn’t go to the clubs, I didn’t do nothing. But now that I am walking again, they just called me to do the Ameri-can Idol thing again on August 7. So we going to see what happens from there; if they going to put me back on every Friday or whatever the situation may be. But, I am back in the door.

THAT’S AWESOME! SO, HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN SINCE YOU FIRST CAPTURED THAT 6-10 SPOT, WHAT HAS CHANGED ABOUT YOU SINCE THEN?

This was my rst radio gig, and nobody was really telling me you’re doing it right, you’re doing it wrong. I was just more gong-ho! Whatever makes sense at that moment! Now, I realize there’s things that you have to focus on, like our demographics, which is 18-34. So, if I go up to a lady who is around 34 and I say “hey my name is Ricky P” she may look at [me] kinda crazy. But if I say “hey I am Ricky Padilla, how you doing?”, she’s more willing to respond “ok, he’s not some little kid o the street”. That’s basically it; now just realizing the behind the scenes when it comes to radio, the clubs, and everything that is going on. Now I know…I didn’t know before.

THERE ARE VERY FEW PROMOTERS WHO CAN MIX UP THE DEMOGRAPHICS AT THEIR PARTIES. HOW DID YOU MASTER THIS & HOW DO YOU STAY RELEVANT IN THE PROMOTIONS GAME?

Some people might be really good at what they do. I con-sider myself alright on the radio, throwing parties, etc. I’m not bad at any situation, but I am good at everything and showing people that I am good at every angle. I’m not wrapped up behind VIP ropes, I’m over shaking hands with everybody, at the bar with the next person. I can go to a black club, and they will shout me out like crazy. Then go to all Spanish club where not one person speaks English, and they shout me out crazy. And still go to an all white event, and still be shouted out. It’s because I am so social with everybody. That’s what people don’t under-stand. That’s a big part of this business. You have to speak to everybody and just be cool with everybody.

THAT IS SO TRUE! SO LET’S TALK ABOUT THE TEN YEARS YOU HAVE BEEN WITH 102JAMZ. HOW DID YOU START?Driving the van. I use to pick up co ee, t-shirts; I use to

wash the van just to get a couple of dollars. Anything I could possibly do to be at the station, and people to see me here, whatever the case was…I was there. That is how I started meeting people and saying “Ok, I see what he’s doing”, or “I like what he’s doing” or “Oh, let me watch him”. Now, ten years later, I’m still at JAMZ.

BEING LATIN, DID YOU FEEL IT WAS A LITTLE MORE CHALLENGING TO RISE UP TO AN ON-AIR PERSONALITY W/I A HIP-HOP RADIO STATION?

Yea, at one point. When you walk in the streets, people say it’s a black radio station but I don’t personally feel that. Music is music. But, shout out to Lissette Perez, she kind of guided me and told me what she did. But

it was something that I wanted to do, and it took me almost two years to get in here. I kept applying and they kept saying no. I didn’t give up cause I knew that’s what I wanted to do.

SO I AM HEARING FROM THE STREETS THAT YOU HAVE BEEN DATING A VIDEO VIXEN. IS THERE A SPECIAL SOMEONE IN YOUR LIFE THESE DAYS? IF SO, HOW DID THAT START?

Yes (he blushes hard). Yea, I have a girlfriend…shout outs to GLO! Yea, I’m pretty sure they have been seeing us go through it on Twitter (he laughs). She [Gloria Velez] came to a party I did for Courtney Lee and she was with my homie DJ Rob Lo from NY and he introduced us. We ended up exchanging info and communicated via text throughout the weeks. I ended up taking her out a few times on some friends hanging out type stu , then it was a wrap after that.

AWWW, THAT’S FANTASTIC RICKY! SO, MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT ON AIR?Somebody had hacked into the CNN website. And

sent out some crap about Jay Z and 50 Cent dying. Yes. And I got on air, without checking my research. This is when I was brand new to the game. I felt like I had the exclusive news in the world, and I was about to give it to Orlando (he laughs). I learned after that to always check my sources.

GRINDING: ACTIVITY VS. PRODUCTIVITY-DON’T CONFUSE THE TWO

How often is it when you ask someone “What have you been up to?” The answer is “I’m grinding” or “You know we out here grinding.” The word Grinding is thrown around so loosely these days, that I think it has lost it’s value. I’m not sure if people say it because it’s the cool thing to say. According to UrbanDictionary.Com staying “on the grind” means to work hard, always be hustling, or otherwise engaged in money-making activities. Many of us say we are grinding but are you being productive?

Time waits for no one, so it’s important that you use your time wisely. People tend to confuse activity with productivity. You may be grinding but you are not get-ting anything accomplished.

If you are an Executive, DJ, Artist, Model etc, its impor-tant that you set goals. Goal setting is extremely impor-tant. Do you think Tyra Banks just happened to get a talk show? Or do you think Kobe Bryant just happened to get on the cover of SLAM Magazine? Absolutely not! They have people in place with them to strategize their career moves. You should do this as well.

What are your goals in this industry? Do you want to be the next Drake? Or the next Kevin Liles? What about Naomi Campbell? The main thing is to stay focused and not get sidetracked and follow through on your goals.

1 Set realistic daily, short and long term goals and write them down-Save money to get my Music Mix and Mastered-To release a mixtape by the end of the year with a com-mercial southern DJ-I want to sign a new mainstream Artist to my label

2 Evaluate your performance-Have I accomplished any of my goals?-Who or what do I need to get to the next level? -Am I attending key industry events to help with networking?

3 Invest in yourself-Is my bio professionally written?-How are my reading and verbal skills?-Do I have a business banking account?

4 Build a Team-Are the people around me supportive?-Do I need to hire a Manager or can I manage myself?

Ever hear the term: Plan your work and work your plan? Goals are always a work in progress. So when you actually have something to grind; it will be a perfect mixture for success!

employee can bring a suit against a company and cost them millions of dollars. Nevertheless the Obama Administration harassed a women employee who had a clean record with the fed-eral government for 35 to 40 years with unreliable infor-mation.

It is obvious that the Obama Administration was asleep at the switch and the media is asking who is man-aging the team. The media is demanding answers, and they want to know how the best administrators and the best minds in the country can fi re a major federal offi cial without due process of the law.

Somewhere in this Obama Administration blunder the question and discussion of race has to be raised. Reverse racism has become a hot button for President Obama and whatever side of the fence you are on you want to be politically correct. Thus in 2010, everyone is trying to prove that there is no racism or discrimination in their actions and thoughts. Our leaders would have the media to believe that their decisions are based on the character, experience, and educational level of the individual.

They would try to get the media to believe that our society is a color blind society and with the election of an African American president, racism has been erased and there is a level playing fi eld. Many will admit that they are having problems accepting Hispanics because they are illegal and they speak a different language.

Nevertheless to many in our colorblind America, the mass media is making too much of an overreaction con-cerning race. Without the mass media being the watch-dog of the Obama Administration, an innocent employee would have lost her job, without any recourse and all we could say “another one bites the dust.”

But with the media doing their job, they are keeping the Obama Administration honest and exposing incom-petence and holding their feet to the fi re. If the Obama Administration would have been doing their job, the decision to fi re a good offi cial who happens to be an African American would receive a double investigation before the media is leaked a story about her fi ring.

Shirley Sherrod has not decided if she will take the new position or initiate a suit and retire a wealthy woman.

MEDIA FORCES ACCOUNTABILITY FROM OBAMA ADMINISTRATION

T his week in the Obama Administration there was a fi restorm with the fi ring and the rehir-ing of a senior federal offi cial Shirley Sherrod,

who happens to be an African American woman. The Agriculture Secretary Tom Visack can use the excuse that he overreacted to a blog post, and took the informa-tion out of context. This was his mistake that only he can be held responsible for and Shirley Sherrod accepted his offi cial apology.

Thus, the Agriculture Secretary and the Obama Administration would like to sweep this fi asco under the rug and move forward, but the national and international media is doing their job and exposing incompetence. The decision to fi re Shirley Sherrod was discussed by more than just the Agricultural Secretary, because dur-ing her drive where she was forced to stop on the side of the road to text her resignation, she received calls from different federal offi cials.

Initially when the mass media received this story the Agricultural Secretary stated that he had made this deci-sion by himself and he was standing by his decision. But in hiring 101, every manager knows that documen-tation, facts, an investigation, and paperwork must be in order before a major employee can be talked to concern-ing job performance.

In the workforce if the due process is not thorough and absolute, the employee receives a written warning and the management is building a case to eventually ter-minate an incompetent employee. When an employee has been with the company for many years, they can receive a demotion based on the severity of the offense and their job performance.

With the mounting expense of harassment cases with women in the workforce, employers take an extra look at termination cases, because everyone knows that women
