HALIA AUTOVERIFICATION AUTOMATED VERIFICATION OF LABORATORY RESULTS FOR A QUICK AND EFFICIENT TURN-AROUND-TIME Today the Laboratory is required to become more optimized in terms of the economic and human resources that it uses. Furthermore, the health service structure must continue to support an increase in the volume and variety of the tests that are required, ensuring patient safety, quality of care and an adequate turn-around-time. The Autoverification provided by , the middleware Laboratory solution by NoemaLife, allows Laboratory staff to devote themselves to the critical cases and the problematic samples that require special attention, thanks to an automated verification of the results, using precise rules and logical algorithms that are user defined. THE AUTOVERIFICATION AND THE EXPERT SYSTEM is based on a powerful and flexible Expert System that efficiently handles the entire workflow of the Laboratory, from acceptance of the samples to their sorting and storage. During this process, the Autoverification can be implemented in HALIA by using the potential of the Expert System, whose rules are fully configurable by the Laboratory. COMPLETE CONTROL OVER THE RULES Next to each Autoverification rule, HALIA offers an integrated test system that allows both the verification and effectiveness of the rule and to archive the test document. One of the critical aspects of the Laboratory processes is regarding the

measurement of errors and being able to identify deviations

from the expected results by an instrument.

To minimize the number of samples potentially affected by instrument

errors it is possible to resort to more frequent Quality Control tests,

though implying a signifi cant increase in costs to be incurred. In addition,

this choice does not fully exploit the continuity and monitoring of the

processes that the Autoverifi cation provides to the Laboratory.

A possible solution to this gap is the adoption of a Moving

Average control solution.

HALIA , the Laboratory middleware uses the Moving Average which

guarantees a constant monitoring of the quality results,

making it possible to identify deviations from the expected

result from an instrument in a timelier manner compared to

standard Quality Control methods.
