  • Marc Stocker is currently in his second season

    as principal flute of the Edmonton Symphony Orche-stra. Born in 1961 in Phoenix, Arizona, he began his studies in Phoenix and continued at the Inter-

    lochen Arts Academy in Michigan yhere he graduated

    with honors. Mr. Stocker was the first flutist

    to receive the Arthur Ross Scholarship to attend

    the Juilliard School of Music where he obtained his Bachelors and Masters of Music degrees as a student of Julius Baker, former solo flutist of the New York Philharmonic.

    He has performed as a member of the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Philharmonic, National Orchestra of New York, and Waterloo Festival Orche-stra and in recital at Alice Tully Hall. He has also performed with Jean-Pierre Rampal and Julius Baker in Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York. Shortly before graduating from Juilliard, the Edmonton Symphony appointed Mr. Stocker to the position of principal flute, a position for which there were over 200 applicants.

    Mr. Stocker is a member and co-founder of a New York based group, "Prophets", which performs original compositions (a fusion of classical and jazz) by its leader and pianist, Ron Yedidia. The group will record this spring for ECM Records in Europe. "Symbolism 1935" .was written by Mr. Yedidia for Marc Stocker and Kristin Winter in honor of their marriage.

    Mr. Stocker is currently on the faculty of the University of Alberta.

    Janet Scott-Hoyt did the major part of her

    studies at the University of Alberta where she received her Master of Music degree in 1977.

    Other studies were done in Europe and in master classes at the Banff Centre. She is very active as a chamber music recitalist and accompanist, and is frequently heard on CBC Radio.

    She has served on the faculty at the Univer-sity of Alberta Department of Music and, since 1973, has been a member of the music faculty at the Banff Centre Summer School.

    Kristin Winter-Stocker was a student of Julius Baker at the Juilliard School where she obtained her Bachelors and Masters degrees. She was awarded the Bronze Medal at the Madeira International Flute Competition and this past summer was awarded second prize in the National Flute Assoc-iation Young Artists Competition. Kristin is currently on the faculty of Alberta College.
