President’s Updateby Bert Del Villano - Club President
Current and past FLC officers hope that all had a full and wonderful holiday season. Anne and I certainly did – sharing time with family and friends, especially our Porsche friends.
As your new President, I want to extend a sincere thank you to Lyn Perez, Jim LaPiana, Nancy Burgos, and Dan Beyer for their service to the club. Special thanks to Lyn who has provided steady guidance and an excel-lent range of activities. Of course, the officers could not have managed all of the year’s events alone. They were assisted by a great cast of volunteers – thanks to all. This year, I will be supported by an outstanding slate of officers; Karyn Rinaldi, (Vice President), Dan Beyer (Treasurer) and Nancy Burgos (Secretary) as well as hard working volunteers.
We are looking forward to an active and diverse slate of events for 2020, including performance driving, tour-ing, and social events. Our monthly meetings will be at Porsche of Orlando each of the odd numbered months, starting January 6, and at Porsche of South Orlando on the even months, starting February 3. We will hold a short meeting and then adjourn to a local eatery for good food, and Porsche camaraderie.
The biggest events in January are the Roar Before the Rolex 24 (Jan. 3-5), and the Rolex 24 at Daytona (Jan. 25-26), both at Daytona International Speedway. Beside watching outstanding professional racing, you can visit the PCA hospitality tent and offer to help park cars and more. FLC has traditionally been responsible for park-ing in the Porsche corral on Saturday morning. Contact our Zone Rep, Lisa Lewis ([email protected]) to volunteer. Note that you will need tickets to both events to enter the grounds and we do not have free tickets.
In addition, FLC will sponsor another movie and dinner (TBD), and 3 performance driving events. An autocross on Jan. 11 (Direct Link: https://clubregistration.net/events/signUp.cfm/event/10400), our Advanced Driv-ing School Feb. 7 (Direct Link: https://clubregistration.net/events/signUp.cfm/event/10307) and DE Feb. 8 and 9 (Direct Link: https://clubregistration.net/events/signUp.cfm/event/10296) both at Roebling Road. These events are an excellent way to drive your car the way the engineers designed it, in a safe and friendly environ-ment.
Finally, if you have an idea for an event, or want to help with an event, please email me.
Happy 2020.
Bert Del VillanoClub President 2020

THECITRUSSPIELPorsche “Wins” Challenge RallyBut the Real Winner was the Russell Home for Atypical ChildrenPhotos by Chuck Hennings and Cindy Anderson
The day before the 23rd Annual Challenge Rally, only 34 cars were pre-registered but Bill Davis, RallyMas-ter/Registrar, said “not to worry” as historically there are large numbers of “walk-ins” . Bill was right! Fifty more cars were registered the morning of the Rally for a total of 84. The winning marque in the “challenge” part of the event was Porsche with 41 cars, followed by BMW with 19, 9 each Audis and Mercedes, 2 Fer-raris, 1 Lotus and 3 others. The real winner, however, as planned, was the Russell Home for Atypical Children for which $3540 was raised. There was a People’s Choice Award which was won by Martin and Dottie Stickley in their 1967 Mercedes 300E convertible (see photo). The winners of the Rally itself were David Junkins and

THECITRUSSPIELHoliday and 35th Anniversary PartyDecember 6th Party Celebrates Holidays & Club HistoryPhotos by Cindy Anderson
The Holiday/35th Anniversary Party held December 6th at the Marriott had a great turnout and everyone seemed to have a good time. A cocktail/social hour was followed by a delicious dinner and wine. Some beautiful dresses for the ladies and coats (some ties) for the men made the evening even more special. Cindy Ander-son put together a wonderful DVD (with audio) of Club events this year and provided each attendee with a copy to take home. The guest speaker, Dealership Retention Manager from PCNA, Steve Krysil, gave a slide and video presentation about Porsche products highlighted by a inside look at how the jazzy “Porsche Tree” commercial currently running on TV was made. Steve also brought along a couple of door prizes he awarded to John Reker and Dave Rothfeld.
Social Director Laura Lee Shields and Friend Christie
Nort Northam, Founder of The Florida Citrus Region back in 1974 spoke about Club history and introduced the other Charter mem-bers there (see photo above). Bert Del Villano, Autocross Chair and Club VP for 2010, then presented Autocross trophies and year-end awards. Howard Osterhouse was awarded the Humanitarian Award, Bill Davis a Service Award for his 5+ years being the Membership Chair, Dave Borinski for “Outstanding Contributions to the Driver’s Ed Program” and Bert and Anne Del Villano received the Enthusiasts of the Year Award (again). 2008 and 2009 Club Officers Howard Os-

October Roebling DE -Conclusion of 2009 DE Season Launches New Student of Performance DrivingRoebling Road - by Dave BorinskiOur October DE at Roebling Road concluded the 2009 season of Citrus hosted DEs with a little excitement. Ross Evers took control of the event in preparation for becoming the 2010 DE Chair as Dave Borinski is retiring from the position. But the real excitement came from Ross’s daughter Jessica Sibbald who caught the attention of many drivers, including seasoned organizers. Jessica’s raw driving talent and enthusiasm created a welcome stir among organizers and fellow drivers.continued on page 8.

enthusiasts while raising money for Charity (Audi, BMW, Jag-uar, Mercedes, Bentley, Lamborghini and Ferrari folks are being invited). There will be door prizes and awards for a variety of categories.
This year’s event is hosted by your FL Citrus Porsche Club. Past Ral-lys have been won by Porsche because we have had the most cars sign up and run in support of this great charity. Last year however, BMWs edged out Porsches by one car! The Challenge this year will be to not only continue our support of the Russell Home but
again have the most cars at the rally!
If you only do one event a year, this is the event to attend! Registration form on page 10 or online at our website: http://flc.pca.org. Look under ‘Events’ ‘Social’ or ‘Events’ ‘Calen-dar of Events‘ 11/15’.
The rally starts from the Porsche of Orlando dealership at 9590 S. Highway 17-92, Maitland, FL 32751.
Advanced registration is $40 per car. For questions, email Chuck Hennings @ [email protected].

Best Chili Cookoff Yet!by Jim and Christie LaPiana
The Chili Cook-off this year was another fun event with a cou-ple of new wrinkles. Orlando Brewing served three of their fantastic brews and door prizes were awarded for the first time. Lots of new faces mingled with the regular crowd. On a cold but perfect-for-a-Chili-Cook-Off night! Over 60 people attended and all were enthusiastic about the selection of chili (11 total), side dishes, and desserts. This year we had a special treat with George and Cindy Cain and John Cheek of Orlan-do Brewing supplying 3 varieties of their wonderful organic beer – Red Ale, Blonde Ale and Old Pelican.
Best Hot Chili Luanna Argudin for “This Ain’t Our First Rodeo Chili”Best Mild Chili Jerry Smalley for the Elk ChiliBest Dessert Connie Herbert for the Nutty (Almond) Cracker DelightsBest Side DishFirst Place Lizette Dreyer for her Corn Tart.Second Place Sue Belt for the Greek Salad
The House Chili (Chernobyl Chili) got some attention this year winning one more vote than its closest rival in the Hot cat-egory. We would like to thank everyone who helped us with the event and a special thanks to Emilio Cortes and the deal-ership for hosting the event again this year.
Finally, thank you to our generous prize sponsors, includ-ing Grass Roots Motorsports (6 months magazine subscrip-tions) Orlando Brewing for the Grand Prize Brewery Tour and T-Shirts and Porsche of Orlando for the great Porsche Bears and Shirts.

Porsche Parade 2010 A Real “Trip” - by Chuck HenningsMy first PCA Parade is over and I have to say it was an outstanding experience. During one of the dinners I attended, they did a sur-vey of members about the number of Parades attended. All guests stood, then sat down as the number of years were announced. I believe the last man standing had attended all but 5 of the 55 Parades. And many others had attended twenty and thirty plus. One person had driven over 3000 miles from Alaska (and of course won the Long Distance Award)! As you can tell, these were the heart and soul, hard-core members who had dabbled in Porsches most of their lives. Coming to Parade for them (and now me) celebrated not only car memories and experiences but the chance to see old and new friends and share driving and social activities at the highest Club level.
I caravanned up to St. Charles. Illinois, site of the Parade, with David and Ginny O’Neal from Space Coast. They had the comfort of a Cayenne but I thought my 2003 Carrera 4S would do

fine despite the length of the drive. It performed flawlessly but I was like a new sailor with “sea legs” for days after our 2 day scamper from Orlan-do to Robbinsville, NC on day 1 and 10 more hours to St. Charles on day 2. Those big tires, fairly stiff suspen-sion and performance exhaust did me in by the time we arrived. (continued page 4)

THECITRUSSPIELRoebling Road Driver’s Ed Scheduled Feb. 19 - 21The first DE of 2010 looks to be a sellout! Reserve your spot fast. We’re only a few short weeks away from our Instructor School and DE! Hopefully, if you’ve signed up, you’ve already booked your hotel, read the driver material posted on the website (http://flc.pca.org) and are preparing for the fun to begin. Whether an Instructor, veteran or rookie, Roebling Road provides a unique com-bination of thrills and fun. The roster was filling out fast as this article was written so call the number below to see if space is still available or check on clubregistration.net.
Remember, our requirements have relaxed a bit; you no longer need a SA rated helmet; a M rated helmet will do fine (2000 or newer). Also, it is no longer required that you “heel toe” to advance to the White Solo group up from Blue Group. Heel Toe is a very useful tool to learn and is highly recommended for you and the life of your transmis-sion, but no longer required to advance to Solo status. We look forward to seeing you and enjoying a great weekend together! Any questions you may have - email me at [email protected] or give me a call at 386-804-2721. See you at the track! ZoneFest 2010by Chuck HenningsA Florida Citrus Region PCA founder, Nort Northam, and his good friend, Club member and owner of the Lakeside Inn, Jim Barggren, organized, coordi-nated and held a very successful Zonefest event in Mt. Dora over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Most of the Zone 12 PCA Regions were represented at the “Sixth Annual Zonefest” hosted by the his-toric Lakeside Inn nestled between Lake Dora and quaint Mt. Dora. The pictures speak for themselves regarding the festivities!
Friday night’s Welcome Party at the Lakeside kicked off the weekend and we were treated to wonder-fully tasty hors d’oeuvres+ provided by Jim and his kitchen staff. (cont page 4)
LeMans 2010 atSoutheast Performanceby Chuck HenningsOn Saturday, June 12th, Rick Vimmerstedt opened up his Southeast Performance shop for breakfast, lunch and the viewing of the LeMans 24 Hour race. Rick usually talks a Club member or two into helping cook but he and Johnny did it all, sausage and eggs early, then hot dogs, hamburgers and a side of beef for lunch! Members drifted in and out after enjoy-ing a plateful and plenty of beverages and catching an hour or two of the race from Le Sarthe in France. Jim and Christie LaPiana, Greg, Jennifer and Kendall Barrows, Richard and Dawn Hook, Maury and Sue Belt, Mark Peebles, Gary Mere-dith, Phil Weis, Tom, Chris, Larry and Ann, and Roger (sorry for not remembering last names) were a few of the many to enjoy the cars and car talk. Rick’s person-nel collection of cars and a few on consignment were there for viewing as well in his spacious facility (see photo which is last year’s. I forgot to bring my cam-era!). (cont page 3)

159 Drivers Make Roebling Road DE a Resounding Success!February Drivers Education Wows ParticipantsBy Chuck Hennings
Based upon the weather so far this winter, I think most folks who drove to Roebling Road Feb. 19-21 brought lots of heavy win-ter clothing. But the weather gods were smiling at Ross Evers, new FL Citrus DE Chair, and his large group of volunteers for the 3-day weekend. The skies cleared and the temperatures climbed through Sunday when suntan lotion broke out. The great weath-er was a factor, but Ross’s well organized and prepared team made for lots of smiling faces at this fun-filled, safe event.
The weekend started Friday with the Instructors School which graduated enough new Instructors to preclude the usual dou-bling-up supporting the instructed Green and Blue groups. That was a harbinger of better things to come! After a very social
registration party Friday night at the Wingate Hotel, an enthusiastic group of “newbies” and veterans filled the canteen area at 7:45am Saturday morning for the Driver’s Meeting at Roebling Road Race-way. We wanted to give Howard (Osterhouse), who setup the week-end time schedule, a hard time about the early hour, but it was an informative session kicking us off to a safe day. The Green and Blue Groups then went off to the classroom and the White, Black and Red Groups began their on-track runs. By the sunny afternoon, you could comfortably be dressed down to the classy, logo’d short-sleeved denim shirt given to all participants. As if we didn’t have enough fun at the track, Saturday evening at Cancun, a Mexican restaurant, was a blast (literally) with a Mariachi band and dancing! T hanks to Anne and Bert (Del Villano) for the restaurant venue (as well as the myriad of other key tasks they performed).

The fun continued on Sun-day with everyone seeming to be doing better and going faster than Saturday. Some of the Blue Group graduated to White after check rides. Dur-ing the “quiet time” lunch break you could do a “tour” of the track in factory muf-fled cars to show family and friends what the magic was all about!

Winter Park Tourby Nilo ArgudinOur Winter Park Porsche tour began at the Cheesecake Factory in the Winter Park Village on a beautiful, crisp Sunday morning. Our drive was scheduled for departure at eleven am as Howard Washington and I patiently waited for other club members to arrive. A tad bit af-ter eleven and with no other club members in sight, we appeared to be a two-man operation tour. To our delight it was soon revived by other Porsche members arriving shortly thereafter. One by one, a multiplicity of Porsche’s magical machinery appeared – fifteen in all. We soon had a pageantry of Coupés adorning a rather ordinary parking lot – from a sleek shiny new turbo to a striking vintage 356 – all distinctive in their own way.
Our fearless leader, Howard, led the troops of our 38 mile tour through old cobblestone roads, exquisite homes and overall scenic views of his-toric Winter Park. As our casual cruise mean-dered through the back streets of WP, we came across a stop sign dead-set in the middle of the Winter Park golf course. Fifteen of the finest Ger-man engineering each came to a stop as golfers marveled at the awesome sight of unique auto-mobiles adorning the road. (continued page 4)
Orlando Auto-Crossby Bert Del VillanoWe finally secured the Orlando Convention Center for an au-tocross, thanks largely to the efforts of David O’Neal. The event will be held on Sunday, May 16 on SEVERAL lots be-hind the “North/South building”. Anne and Bert Del Villano will host “bench racing” at their house immediately after the event. It will be open to those who pre-register for the event and also sign up in the options area -- and for a contribution of an additional $5.00. See page 6 for more information.
What is an Autocross? An Autocross is a lower speed competition event requiring precision and skill as you negotiate a narrow course marked by orange rubber cones. From tight, low speed turns to short straightaways with speeds reaching 50 or 60 MPH, the action is fast and furious and is designed to exercise the driver more than your Porsche. Quick reflexes and car finesse are the most important re-quirements. Helmets are required, but loaners are available.

A Decade of SpielsAfter 60 issues and a decade of being the editor and publisher for our club newsletter, this will be our last in the current format. I sincerely hope that the Speil has helped get everyone involved in our club activities and share in those moments that make the Porsche Club not just about the cars. As a recap, here are the covers from the Spiels from the last 10 years. If you are a long time member I am sure it will be a walk down memory lane. -Travis Young

Last Porsche 991
by Porsche Press Release - StuttgartPioneer, millionaire, bestseller: the 991 series has been the most comprehensively-developed genera-tion of the 911 to date – and the most successful too, with 233,540 units produced. The final specimen has now rolled off the production line: a 911 Speedster.
Michael Steiner, Chief Research and Development Officer Porsche AG has commented: “Porsche stands for both tradition and innovation. This is reflected no-where more clearly than in the core of the brand – the 911. The 911 replaced the 356 in 1963 and, in the de-cades that followed, our rear engine model grew into an unrivalled sports car icon. The 991 generation in particular has set new standards in terms of perfor-mance, drivability and efficiency. It fills me with pride, as well as a touch of sadness, to have to send it off into retirement. For myself, I can say that the 991 has given me enormous pleasure.”
991 Series ReviewThe 991 generation was launched in 2011 as one of the biggest development steps in the history of the 911. Nearly 90 percent of all components were newly designed or had undergone substantial further de-
velopment. Thanks to a lightweight body made of an innovative aluminium-steel composite, it was the first time that a new 911 had weighed less than its predecessor. The chassis, which benefitted from a 100 millimetre-longer wheelbase than the model that it replaced, could be equipped with a new, optional roll stabilisation system – Porsche Dynamic Chassis Con-trol (PDCC) – and set the benchmark in terms of driv-ing dynamics. The Cabriolet followed in the spring of 2012 with another innovation. When closed, the light-weight magnesium bows made it possible to achieve a coupé-like curve of roof that had never been seen before, and with a silhouette that was retained even at high speeds. The new 911 Targa, which came out at the end of 2012, was equally spectacular. Like the leg-endary original Targa, the new model had the charac-teristic wide hoop instead of B-pillars. At the push of a button, however, the front section of the roof could be moved automatically and stored at the rear.
The host of innovations continued in the 911 Turbo, which saw the first active aerodynamics and particu-late filter-equipped turbo engines on any 911 Carrera model.
The 991 generation also proved the ideal basis for spe-cial models and radical sports cars. Porsche celebrat-ed the 50th anniversary of its cult sports car in 2013 with an exclusively equipped limited edition model, of which only 1,963 examples were built. In 2016, the 500 PS, naturally aspirated 911 R evoked memories of the road-approved 1967 racing sports car of the same name. Two other purist sports cars with classic predecessors made their debut in 2017: the sporty 911 T and the 911 GT3 high-performance sports car with Touring package. The one-millionth 911 was also built as part of the 991 generation: like Ferry Porsche’s first company 911, the not-for-sale commemorative model was painted in Irish Green and boasted leather and Pepita seats. In the same year, Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur presented the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Se-ries with 446 kW (607 PS) and spectacular Golden Yel-low Metallic paintwork.
And there was more to come: The fastest and most powerful 911 racing technology ever seen in a pro-duction road-going 911 appeared in 2017 in the form of the 515 kW (700 PS) 911 GT2 RS. Its naturally aspi-rated sister followed a few months later. The 911 GT3 RS had a racing chassis and a 382 kW (520 PS) four-
litre naturally aspirated engine, perfectly combining road and race track.
Right on time to mark the 70th anniversary of Porsche sports cars, the 911 Speedster embodied the origi-nal virtues of Porsche: lightweight construction, ef-ficiency, purity and driving pleasure – delivered by a 375 kW (510 PS) four-litre naturally aspirated engine, manual six-speed transmission and high-performance sports chassis. The two-seater was not just the last de-rivative of the 991 generation, it has now also become the last model of the series to be manufactured and marks a further milestone in the 911-history.
