flip the clinic - design connections for clinical settings

That “one time”

Each of us has that “one time” – a moment when the exchange during an appointment was just…well…a bummer.

Reality Check
A patient spends an average of 8-12 minutes one-on-one with a clinician at an appointment.
About 50% of the information exchanged during that appointment is actually retained by the patient.
An average physician sees 2,300-2,800 patients per year, the recommended formula asks 1,000-1,800.
A preventable medical error kills ~400,000* patients every year.

ChangeWe need to close the gap between the health outcomes we are achieving and the ones we need to achieve.
Connection
We know we need to connect human capital and resources to increase the capacity for success in health care.

Flip the Clinic is an “open experiment” to reimagine the patient-clinician encounter.
What is a Flipped Clinic?
Flip the Clinic launched just over two years ago with the goal of defining a set of proven tenets to create a Flipped Clinic.
In 2016, we will officially publish our field guide and the research behind what makes a Flipped Clinic, called: The Elements of a Flipped Clinic.
Flips

A flip is a bold new way of looking at the patient-clinician encounter.
It is pragmatic. It is transformative. It recombines existing ideas, technology, tools.
It does not cost $500 ZBM.
They come from every voice touching healthcare.

Flip 19: Reclaim the Environment
Patients find waiting in the waiting room to be the most frustrating.*
Yet, they do not appear to have the longest waits there, so it isn’t necessarily the TIME that makes the wait frustrating.
