Evac companies and representatives in more than 40 countries are responsible for the marine and construction business worldwide. More than 30 years in the business has resulted in extensive experience and 12,000 great references.

Evac companies have Lloyd’s ISO 9001:2000 quality assurance and ISO 14001:2004 environmental standards certifi cates. Our premises are located in Finland, USA, France, Brazil, China, Norway, Germany and Korea.

How does it work?

The Evac wastewater handling solution is a closed and integrated system that consists of vacuum toilets, grey waters and condensates vacuum interface units, vacuum piping, vacuum collection tanks, as well as wastewater treatment plants. Indeed, the solution is based on

vacuuming, not gravity, which makes it possible to fl ush the wastewater horizontally or even vertically into the overhead piping and, if needed, around obstacles, too.

A vacuum drainage system is able to transfer all of the wastewater and condensate inside a building to any single location without additional pumping stations.

Increased Hygiene Unlike conventional toilets, permitting bacteria and odor to

enter the atmosphere, the Evac toilet takes out up to 60 liters

of air on each fl ush, removing viruses, bacteria and odor from

the bowl and into the system – enhancing hygiene and per-

sonal comfort within washrooms. By encouraging the cycle of

air, the toilet accommodation will stay fresh.

Reduced Sewage Loading

As Evac toilets have a very low consumption of water, the

actual amount of the produced sewage is reduced – help-

ing to ease the burden on overloaded public sewage plants.

Vacuum retention tanks can also be discharging during the

off-peak periods.

Reduced Water Storage

As less water is used in the Evac system, bulky water storage

facilities can be reduced on site - saving valuable space and

structural costs.

The Vacuum allows hazardous wastewater to be collected in

a separate tank for a treatment, before being pumped into the

municipal sewer.

Safety &reliability

Evac fl oor drainThe shower drain is made of a corrosion resistant AISI 316 and can be used as a gravity fl oor drain, but it can also be connected directly to the vacuum drainage system. The advantage of the vacuum system is the increased level of hygiene - each fl ush consumes up to 70 liters of air by removing viruses, bacteria, and odor from the surrounding environment into the sewer.

SEMEY HOSPITAL

The city of Semey in Kazakhstan has built a brand new hospital for cancer patients. Patients receiv-ing chemotherapy get treated in a separate sec-tion of the hospital, which is equipped with Evac’s vacuum sanitary system to collect all the radio-active waste into a sealed system. The radioac-tive waste is stored in sealed containers inside the hospital to ensure that hazardous waste is kept in safe for the later disposal. Once the radioactive material has decayed to a safe level, the waste is transferred to the municipal sewage network.

Train stations and pitsEvac’s systems are used to empty passenger cars’ sep-tic tanks, which collect all sewage on a train. The suc-tion stations can be located on separate service lanes or inside a train hangar. Also, the same goes for the vac-uum units; they can be located in outdoor inside contain-ers and sheds, or inside the technical areas of hangars or service stations. The vacuum ensures that the septic tanks are emptied fast, smoothly and in a clean way so that the trains can continue the journey and serve the passengers.

ILMALA RAILWAY YARD

VR Group’s Ilmala rail yard in Helsinki is a key hub for the rail traffi c in Southern Finland. Over 800 persons, working in the area of only 60 hect-ares and 65 kilometers of rails, are responsible for maintaining all of the trains used in the commuter traffi c in Southern Finland. At the rail yard, Evac’s systems are used to transfer waste from trains to municipal sewer system – the clockwork of the timetables demands fast and reliable solutions.

Vacuum toilet systems are very environmentally friendly - one of the big-gest savings on natural resources is the dramatic reduction in water con-sumption. A typical vacuum toilet requires just over one liter of water per fl ush - one sixth of that used by a conventional toilet, as they have a very low water consumption. In consequence, the actual amount of the pro-duced sewage is reduced - helping to ease the burden on overloaded public sewage plants, and of course reducing the cost of water.

JOHN SMITHS STADIUM – HUDDERSFIELD

John Smiths multi-purpose stadium holds up to 25,000 people. There are 15 vacuum toilets for the audience, grey water drain-age from bars, as well as 20 vacuum toilets and grey water collection in the corporate entertainment areas. The attached leisure-complex has 18 public vacuum toilets, plus a vacuum drainage for 35 showers and various sinks and WHBs. The main interest of the client was a toilet, using only 1½ liters per fl ush. The vacuum system also included a grey water recover system, which allowed the grey water to be collected, treated and reused for the fl ush water in toilets.

HEATHROW TERMINAL 5

When British Airways were building a new terminal at Heathrow Airport, they decided to build 100 pri-vate bathrooms for their business and fi rst class customers. The constraints of the building meant that no drainage pipes were able to enter the fl oors below. The answer was a vacuum drain-age system that allowed fl exibility for the layout, but contained all of the pipework within the BA domain and with no fl oor penetration. In addition, Evac vacuum toilets with the 1.2 liter fl ush were the obvious choice for their water conservation. The complete system consists of over 200 Evac’s vacuum toilets and interface units.

Evac OnlineFlexThe OnlineFlex is a robust mechanical pump designed to create and maintain constant vacuuming in a vacuum toilet system without the need for the intermediate tanks. The OnlineFlex was specially designed to increase installation fl exibility without compromises.

HALKOLAITURI HELSINKI

The pier was originally built during the years 1889-1891 for ships to supply Helsinki with goods, and was converted into a marina suitable for tall ships in 1991. The tall ships and other vessels carry a lot of passen-gers, and the ships empty their sep-tic tank with the Evac’s OnlineFlex unit, located on the pier.

Storing food waste in bins is unhygienic and brings a risk of cross contamination. Food waste fermentation starts quickly and produces odor, as well as toxic corrosive gases. With an integrated vacuum system, food waste can be collected into separate tanks as soon as the food waste is produced. From these tanks redundant water can be pumped into the municipal sewage network, whilst the food waste can be utilized e.g. in biofuel production.

Hot sewage from industrial kitchens and food processing plants contains a high quantity of fat and grease, which can easily block sewer systems. By utilizing Evac’s grease separator, the system will make sure that only water enters the municipal sewage network.

Problem solved

Grease separatorGrease, fat and oil can have deleterious effects on downstream wastewater treatment, such as fi lter clogging and decrease in biological treatment effi ciency. Grease is also very harmful inside of pipes and water tanks, causing deposits and unpleasant odor. Evac grease separators are designed to separate grease from wastewater and, thus, prevent problems in sewage treatment plants.

Type 10 HQEEvac vacuum tank units, like the Type 10, are very suitable for places like Kexing. The energy consumption of the new vacuum tank units is 50% lower compared to the competing technology.

The Kexing Hi-tech Park in China has a total area of 85,000 square meters. Kexing has a food court for 50,000 per-sons underground. Thus, several drain-age restrictions need to be overcome; such as the pipe slope, discharge effi -ciency, the limited space for septic tanks, as well as grease separation.

Evac solved this challenge by providing a slope free, water saving vacuum system and a grease separator. Two Evac HQE

vacuum stations with the capacity of over 900 m3/h each together with vacuum toilets, interface valves and fl oor drains, granting the possibility to operate a giant food court under the ground level.

With Evac high effi ciency grease sepa-rator, effl uent quality surpasses the local standards. The Evac vacuum system al-lowed the maximum fl exibility of layout and provided the best convenience for future leasehold and renovation.

MOSCOW´S TOILET CABINS

The City of Moscow decided to increase the amount of its public toilets and, after compar-ing different solutions, the vacuum toilets was considered to be the best option. Since the city of Moscow only provides land lot and electricity, and the solution was built under these constraints. Consequently, since the vacuum toilet consumes less water than the traditional toilet, the fi lling of a raw water tank and the emptying of a sewage tank occur less frequently. This minimizes operational costs, while less raw water has to be transported to the facilities and less sewage water has to be taken away from the facilities.

OnlinEvacThe Evac OnlinEvac is particularly designed for remote locations like cabins and cottages. The design of the OnlinEvac features extra strong bearings, heavy duty mechanical seals and an electric motor with an IEC fl ange connection. In addition to being robust and reliable, the OnlinEvac has been designed to be easy to maintain and it offers a low-cost choice.

Evac systems are very environmentally friendly – the water consumption is 80% less compared to a conventional toilet. Less water consumed means less sewerage produced. Evac systems are also cleaner. Each fl ush consumes up to 70 liters of air, removing viruses, bacteria and odor from the surrounding environment into the bowl.

There is a saving in both the cost and power by bringing less water into your building. If the water has to be stored in the building, then the use of vacuum toilets will reduce the size of any storage tanks: freeing up valuable fl oor space, or reducing excavations for underground tanks, or possibly reducing the structural requirements of a building, if the tanks are at the top of it.

Saving Water & Energy

The Great Eastern Hotel, London, UK

The Great Eastern Hotel was originally built in the 1800s and was once the fl agship hotel of the Great Eastern Railway Company, but over the years the hotel fell into disrepair. Many areas of the former hotel are listed as being of historically and archi-tecturally valuable and, in consequence, the fl exi-bility of the vacuum system enabled the designers to route drainage runs around these areas with-out extensive and costly building works. Over 300 rooms are served by the vacuum system.

Karnataka Government Assembly, Belgaum, India

Suvarna Saudha, the Karnataka Government Assembly building, situated at Belgaum and 500 km from Bangalore, is at its fi nal stage of construction. The footprint of the building is 15,500 m2 with a ground fl oor and three upper fl oors. In ad-dition, Suvarna Saudha has a base-ment 5m underground, where the main conference hall, the banquet hall, the dining hall, offi ces, as well as the VIP-rooms are located.

A client checked all of the pos-sibilities to discharge the black and grey water coming from the base-ment toilets and found that Evac vacuum toilets were the perfect so-lution to overcome the discharge problems.

30 Evac vacuum toilets and 8 squatting toilets with a vacuum kit were installed in the basement. Interface units of 2 L and 5 L ca-pacity were installed to discharge the wastewater from the 50 wash-basins and the 23 urinals. The main vacuum piping of 75 mm was sus-pended to the ceiling below the ground fl oor slab. The outlet pipes of the toilet were vertically lifted over 4.5 m and connected to the main. The piping network has a total length of 750 m and is connected to a central vacuum station located in the basement.

St. Pancras Railway Station London, England

The redevelopment of St. Pancras required preservation of the histori-cal nature of the building while pro-viding the most modern, up-to-date facilities for its users. The high vol-ume of passengers would mean that toilet fl ushing would be a major drain on water use.

The fl exibility of the Evac Vacuum Drainage System, which is not de-pendent on falls, meant that toi-lets could be located at either end of the building without the need for major excavations. The Evac vac-uum toilet, requiring only 1.2 liters per fl ush, reduced the volume of the toilet fl ush water with 80%. The system consists of over 500 Evac vacuum toilets and interface units.

Salt Lake Adult Correctional Facilities, Salt Lake City, UT, USA

In correctional facilities, control and security are not just desired – they are imperative. Taking and main-taining control requires a great at-tention to details. Whether design-ing a new construction or remod-eling an existing facility, the waste system is the critical element of se-curity and control.

The many benefi ts of vacuum-ing came all into play for Salt Lake County choosing to use an Evac system. The enhanced control, im-proved security, reduced water & sewage volume, reduced opera-tion costs, and the elimination of blocked pipes were all factors. In addition, the vacuuming helped with the speed and eased the mod-ular construction, since there was no need to locate vent stacks and vacuum takes vertical lifts, and its small diameter piping was easier to install.

Salt Lake City saved around 50% in the construction time by utilizing modular construction, and, with the use of Evac, the project was able to be completed in 12-13 months.

Walmart Sam’s club, Dalian, China

This is a fi rst Sam’s Club store in Dalian and northeast China, at the future site of the store in Xigang District, Dalian. The new store will offer fl oor space of more than 20,000 square meters.

Sam’s Club is one of the several retail formats of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., the world’s largest retailer. The name of the chain store comes from Wal-Mart’s founder, the legendary retailer Sam Walton. Sam’s Club is a membership-only warehouse store which provides a spacious, comfortable shopping environment and high quality, but inexpensive products, as well as fi rst-class ser-vices for its corporate and private members.

The high-standard living outlet included many green ideas; one of them was using a non-chemical wastewater treatment plant to treat the wastewater produced by the food preparation workshop and re-cycle the treated water.

The project specifications in-cluded short construction time, a small carbon footprint, a high hy-gienic level and compliance towards a high effluent quality standard. Therefore Evac’s MBR is 100% match to Walmart’s requirements.

The Goûter mountain refuge, Mont Blanc, Alps in France

The Goûter is the new highest ref-uge in France at 3,835 m in the Alps, on the route most frequented by climbers around the world to reach the roof of Europe. The ac-tual Refuge will leave room for a new building and innovative Green, with the capacity of 120 people by summer 2012. The project is a real human, technical and environ-mental challenge, led by the French Federation of Alpine Clubs.

Numerous constraints need to be overcome including limited water supply, space and Zero Discharge requirements. In addition, the ref-uge has a seasonal traffi c, the cli-mate is extreme (300 km/h wind and everlasting snow) and access is particularly limited. Evac was able to provide a complete solution with water saving features, water reuse and very high pollutants removal effi ciency.

Evac provided solution for the refuge to be as independent as possible from the water supply. Evac also contributed to comply with very strict environmental ob-jectives with more than 50% wa-ter saving and negligible discharge. Indeed, the surplus effluent from the MBR is discharge with organ-ics, phosphorus and solids below 5 ppm, nitrogen below 10 ppm, and bacteria undetected.

The El Mouradi Club Kantaoui Hotel, Sousse, Tunisia

El Mouradi Hotels is the leading ho-tel chain in Tunisia, offering a total of 16,000 beds. The El Mouradi Club Kantaoui Hotel, located in Sousse, has 482 rooms.

Water scarcity is a challenge in Tunisia and an issue for high wa-ter consumption and quality busi-nesses like the luxury hotels. Tourists expect unrestricted access to an excellent quality of water. In most cases, the water supplied by municipalities does not have the re-quired quality.

Evac’s seawater treatment plant, with the capacity of 600 m3/d, was the solution for the hotel’s needs. The most appropriate technology for the desalination is reverse os-mosis, an energy-efficient, envi-ronmentally friendly process. In El Mouradi seawater is collected from the open sea. Firstly, the water is shock-disinfected and a screen fi l-ter to protect the booster pump removes larger particles. With the pressure of up to 69 bars, the water is then forced through the membranes, where the pure water passes through and the salts re-main on the other side.

For the purpose of drinking wa-ter, the purifi ed water is re-miner-alized to the perfect balance with calcium.

1 Bligh Street, Sydney, Australia

1 Bligh Street is the Cbus Property’s new flagship office development in Sydney. The 43,419 m2 tower was designed by Ingenhoven Architekten of Germany and Architectus of Australia. The build-ing needed to be 6 stars, a Green Star, and 5 Star NABERS Energy.

For this purpose, Evac pro-vided a cost effective solution for full fl exibility and water saving fea-tures. Evac supplied the Vacuum Collection System to collect waste-water from the building services in the mid and high levels.

The system allows a great in-crease in Net Leasable Space on tenant’s fi tting by providing vacuum access points on each fl oor. The system collects sewage from the drains and provides the tenant with a full fl exibility on the placement of equipment. Tenants have the option to install toilets, showers, basins or kitchenettes anywhere on the fl oor plate without having to dig into the slab in future retrofi ts.

The Evac System contributed to the high green standards of the building, thanks to the low water consumption of Evac toilet; 1.2 L per fl ush compared to the conven-tional 6 L.

Aarhus University hospital, Aarhus, Denmark

Aarhus hospital renovated its drain-age system and installed new toilets to each fl oor. The germ-reduction capacity of Evac’s solutions was one of the selective criteria for the challenging project. The proximity of the surgery department, a ne-cessity for minimal disturbance to the patients, and the risk of cross-contamination are few examples of the challenges.

The Evac vacuum toilet system was the most effective solution for the high constraints of the project. Indeed, Evac vacuum toilet fl ush-ing uses only 1.2 liters of water (in-stead of 6 liters in the conventional systems), but, at the same time, it sucks up more than 60 liters of the surrounding air, including bacteria, viruses, and the odor of airborne mist.

Due to Evac systems, the Aarhus University hospital improved the level of risk control, and patients felt more confi dent when the contami-nation risk of hospital-acquired dis-eases was considered. By choosing the Evac vacuum drainage system, the renovation time decreased con-siderably. The installation schedule was completely fl exible thanks to the small-bore piping and the easy pipe routing around obstacles.
