More rare and unusual vehicles on show at one of Robert Stewarts well organised events.

Best of British, Rolls Royce, Riley, Triumph and Velocette on

show at Stapleford Carnival.


One of Beeston and District Civic Society events during its 5 days of Heritage activities took

place at Strelley Hall this year. A lovely venue with lots of interesting buildings and displays,

this year Richard English has been more involved than ever with the Societies events and

around 50 vehicles turned out on a day that started with thundery showers but finished in

warm sunshine. There were several familiar exhibits but also lots that I had not seen before,

making this a good day out.

September/ October is a very busy time for all types of motoring events and I look forward

to receiving reports from those concerned – you know who you are! please get those notes

to me, even if you have to resort to snail mail.

Hopefully the Harold Palin memorial Rally at Fulbeck will not be cursed to cancellation after

Steve and I have entered in the Manta! And I also hope that the RS2000 will hold together at

Donington. Please also support Vinces Track Day at Curborough the day before The Dukeries

at Donington.

Still on wheels, I watched the Tour of Britain (Cycle race) pass through Derbyshire, how dare

they use our best 12 car lanes! But the organisation needed to keep the riders safe is

unbelievable, especially when the field splits into two groups 40 minutes apart charging

through the county at 40km/hr requiring two separate “Rolling road closures” to keep the

Friday rush hour moving. RESPECT!


The Sherwood Restorations Classic Tour ran to schedule with a full entry – congratulations

to Brian, Andy and especially Abi whose computer skills produced a very thorough Road

Book using Don Barrow software. The Riley ran really well again, but the driver misheard an

instruction and took off north up the A15 for several miles, a bit of head scratching with a 35

year old O/S map got us back on track! Vince has promised a report and here are a few

images of the event.

Sherwood Restorations classic car run

Sunday September 13th 2015

Sunday morning and I pick up my usual passengers for the rum – Mick & Carol – and we

head off to the start.

This classic run was again a full entry and it was great to see everyone squeezed into the car

park of Sherwood restorations. After quickly signing on it was coffee time until the drivers

briefing by Bryan “The Whistler” Hodges , ably assisted by Andy Smedley.

With nearly an hour to wait for our start time its a quick look round the showroom at the

cars I can / cannot afford.

From its start location its quickly off down pleasant country lanes and before too long we're

at the coffee stop which this year was the White Swan at Dunham where tea/coffee were

served in exchange for the road book voucher . , with the option to purchase [reasonably

priced] bacon or sausage cogs.

On the road again and its quick “where's the 40p” as we approach Dunham toll bridge. Some

superb roads now as we arrive at the lunch halt - the bubble car museum at Langrick near

Boston.


Unfortunately the cafe struggled to cope with our numbers and there was quite a delay for

service.

This resulted in me being hastened to finish by Carol as we were the last in the car park !

There was no need to panic however the [mystery] food would not be served until 4.30 pm.

Parking up to join the queue for food which this year was fish/chips/peas from a Greek

mobile.

A nice touch was the complementary serving of wine whilst in the queue. The food was

nicely prepared and it was great talking with others whilst queueing.

Thanks to Bryan, Andy and helpers for another well run Carlton event.

Member of the month – September

The Sherwood organising team needed computer literacy when they adopted Don Barrow

software to produce the Road Book – Andy Smedleys daughter Abi stepped in and


produced a clear and reliable document that everyone found easy to use, Abi is therefore

our Member of the Month. DO NOT FORGET! SATURDAY OCTOBER 24TH 2015

1. Practice day at Curborough sprint course [nr Lichfield Staffs]

Carlton and District Motor Club are organising their annual practice day at the

international sprint course at Curborough in the West Midlands.

The number of places for the whole event is limited to enable everyone to get

adequate track time. THE COST IS JUST £35.

This is an ideal opportunity for YOU the ordinary club member [or specially

invited guest] to take your car onto a track ALONE. The car needs no special

preparation.

FAQ

Short drivers briefing at 10.30 am .The day ends about 4.00 pm .

There is a noise test but any normal i.e. unmodified car should pass easily [if in

doubt please contact me beforehand] .[105db @ 0.75m]

Drivers and passengers must have a crash helmet – you may be able to borrow

one on the day but please ask before the day.

Timing devices are permitted only from a point of comparative testing

[suspension, tuning alterations etc.] .

Marshalls, first aid and fire extinguishers are provided. Toilets on site.

The club has again booked an on-site catering wagon, selling a wide range of

food and drink at sensible prices. Please make use of it so it can be a permanent

arrangement for us.

Normal road cars only [no specials or single seaters]. Only one car is permitted

on the track at any time. Three lap sessions [opening lap, one full lap then

slowing down lap] .

Competing cars can then go to the pits or rejoin the queue for another go [round

robin]

The limited places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

CARLTON AND DISTRICT MOTOR CLUB EVENTS Carlton and District Motor Club

meets on the first and third Tuesdays of every month at The Star Inn, Middle

Street, Beeston. Please make the effort to come down, it’s a great “Real Ale”

pub with a full calendar of quizzes, open mic. nights etc and meals and pub

snacks are now available. The access problems caused by the tram works are

now resolved and free parking is available in various town centre car parks and

on surrounding roads.

The event is a round of the Carlton Four Counties Winter Championship.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Carlton and District Motor Club Ltd will organise a Clubmans Permit 12 Car Rally on the 13th October 2015

JURISDICTION

The event will be held under the General Regulations of The Motor Sports Association (incorporating the

provisions of the International Sporting Code of the FIA) and these Supplementary Regulations and any

written instructions that the organising club may issue for the event.

AUTHORISATION

MSA Permit Number 91483

ELIGIBILITY

The event is open to fully elected members of the organising club or

Members of the following club’s:- Coalville Car Club, Eastwood & District Motor Club, Loughborough Car Club,

Matlock Motor Club, and Mid Derbyshire Motor Club

All competitors must produce a valid club membership card Competitors will be required to produce a valid

MOT certificate, proof of ownership of competing vehicle or the owner’s consent to use the vehicle.

CHAMPIONSHIP

The event is a round of the Carlton Four Counties Winter Championship.


PROGRAMME

Scrutineering starts at 19:00 hours and closes at 19:30 hours. Any competitor not signed on 30 minutes before

their due start time may be excluded. Car 1 starts at MC1 at 19:51 hours and from then on at 1-minute

intervals.

ROUTE

Map number 119C4 is required. Total mileage will be 45 miles. White roads may be used. The finish will be at

The Steampacket Derby Road Swanwick derbys.

TECHNICAL REGULATIONS

All vehicles must comply with the current MSA technical regulations. A 2 metre Sound Test as stated in J5.18

and may be conducted. If your vehicle does not comply you will not be allowed to start the event. There will be

no exceptions.

AWARDS

Awards may be presented as follows to the 1st Overall driver & Navigator.

ENTRIES

The entry List opens on publication of these SR’s and finally closes on Wednesday

13/10/2015. The Entry Fee is £7-50. All entries must be made on the official entry form and be

accompanied by the appropriate fee. Any competitor whose cheque is not honoured will be

excluded from the competition and reported to the MSA. The maximum entry for the meeting

is 12. The minimum is 4. The Entries Secretary, to whom all entries must be sent, if an online

RESULTS

Provisional results will be published in accordance with D26.1.2 where practical. Failing that D26.1.3 will apply.

Any protests or appeals must be lodged in accordance with C5.1 to C13.1.

ROAD BOOK/TIME CARD

Entrants will be supplied with a Road Book/ Time Card at signing on and other points along the route,

competitors will be given road books (consistent with R9.1). These documents will provide all the information

necessary to enable competitors to comply with R2.3.2 and R14.1.

Give ways and Stop signs will be treated as R9.1.3.

Competitors will be required to make any lateness at the specified rest halts and/or time make-up sections

(R12.6).

IDENTIFICATION

Competitors will be identified by rally plates supplied by the organisers to be displayed as per R6.1.1.

PENALTIES

Marking and penalties will be applied as per R13 (Chart 13) as follows: -

(a) Not reporting at a Main Time Control Retired

(b) Not reporting or reporting OTL at any other Time Control 1 Fail

(c) Not complying with the route card including visiting a control more than once 1 Fail

(d) Not reporting at Passage Control or providing proof of visiting a Route Check 5 minutes

(e) Arrival before scheduled time at the end of a Standard Section 2 minutes per

MODIFICATION OF GR’S

All general regulations of the MSA apply as written, except for the following, which are modified:

R7.2.3 Mobile telephones may be carried in the car (for use in breakdown or

emergency situations only)

H2.3.3 Secret checks may be established to ensure compliance with route

instructions, technical regulations, noise and maps used

INSURANCE

Competitors must have Insurance in place which provides Third Party Liability cover that complies with the

Road Traffic Act. This can be an extension to the existing motor policy for the car or purchased via the event

organisers.

If a competitor uses an extension to an existing policy, they will be required to sign a declaration that the cover

complies with the requirements of the Road Traffic Act. Any responsibility for a fraudulent or misleading

declaration about existing cover lies with the competitor.

If a competitor wishes purchase cover via the organisers then they can do so prior to the event providing they

comply with the following.

Age 19 years or over

Has held a full licence for a minimum of 6 months

Has no more than 6 points of their licence

Has had no more than 1 fault claim in the last 3 years

Anyone aged less than 19 years old will also be accepted at the same price should their co-driver be a more

senior member of their family or over 25.

Any competitor, who falls outside these parameters, may be offered cover at the standard price (or a higher

price) depending on circumstances. These competitors must ask the event organisers to obtain agreement

from REIS prior to the event.

The Event Organiser’s RTA scheme is provided by REIS and underwritten by Chaucer Insurance.

The basic rate for the event before any loading(s) that may be required is £15.00.

OTHER INFORMATION

Force majeure notwithstanding, the organisers reserve the right to delete or amend penalties at any control or

check and/or delete any part of the route from the results, should they deem it fairer to do so. Organisers will

enforce this should it become obvious that an incorrect time has been entered onto a timecard.


Any notice displayed at the start or on the route bearing an official’s signature shall have the same authority as

these SR’s.
