GENERAL CLUB RULES

Members should consult the various notice boards located throughout the Club. Members will be deemed to

be aware of notices posted on the notice boards.

By Law No. 4

RULES OF THE CLUB

The following rules relating to play etc. shall apply. The Board of Management may make amendments that

will be duly notified.

RULE 1 – DRESS

(a) Members and Visitors are required to conform to standards of dress both on the course and in the

Clubhouse.

(b) Players must be neatly attired at all times. All types of shirts must have attached or rolled collars and

must be tucked in. Shirts with banded waist may be worn outside shorts or slacks.

(c) Golf or dress shorts only are permitted. All other types of shorts e.g. tennis, beach, football etc. are

prohibited at all times on the course. Acid wash and torn style jeans are prohibited on the course.

(d) Golf shoes are recommended to be worn when playing. Thongs, sandals and work shoes are

prohibited. Sandshoes or running shoes are permitted if a player does not have golf shoes.

(e) Golf shoes are not to be worn in the bar/dining room areas of the Clubhouse. Acceptable footwear

must be worn.

(f) If short socks are worn they must be of a “sport” style.

(g) We ask that any caddies and persons accompanying players also make every effort to adhere to dress

regulations. Persons not complying may not be permitted on the course or in the Clubhouse.

(h) Members are responsible for the dress and conduct of their guests.

This is not intended to be an exhaustive description of what is acceptable. At all times the judgment of the

Committee is final.

RULE 2 - HOUSE

(a) The Clubhouse is open for use of Members from 10am weekdays and 10am Saturdays. Sunday

opening is dependent upon events.

(b) Normal bar trading hours are:

i. Tuesday 11:00am to 2:30pm

ii. Wednesday 10:30am to 6:00pm

iii. Thursday 11:00am to 2:30pm

iv. Friday 3:00pm to 9:00pm

v. Saturday 10:30am to 6:30pm

vi. Sunday As required

(c) Normal Restaurant trading hours are:

i. Monday As required

ii. Tuesday 11:30am to 2:30pm

iii. Wednesday 11:30am to 3:30pm

iv. Thursday 11:30am to 2:30pm

v. Friday 5:00pm to 9:00pm

vi. Saturday 11:00am to 3:30pm

(d) These trading hours may be varied at the discretion of the Board of Management

(e) The Clubhouse and the course are available to Members and the public for either functions or golf

days. These may be booked through the Office.

(f) No person under the age of 18 years will be served alcohol or may sit at the bar. Breaches of this rule

may affect the Club’s liquor licence. At all times Responsible Serving of Alcohol guidelines are

enforced, please do not be offended if you are refused service.

RULE 3 – COURSE AVAILABILITY

Please check the website or call the Golf Shop for Social Play or Competition details

Mondays: Open (Check with Pro Shop)

Tuesdays: 1st tee closed for competition until 10:00am

Social Play on Back 9 or after competition on Front 9.

Wednesdays: Course closed for competition until 12:30pm

Social Play after competition.

Thursdays: 1st tee closed for competition until 10:00am

Social Play on Back 9 or after competition on Front 9.

Fridays: Open (Check with Pro Shop)

Saturdays: Course closed for competition until 12:00noon

Social Play after competition.

Sundays: Open (Check with Pro Shop)

Booking sheets (including on-line booking) will operate for all competition fields

MATCH COMMITTEE:

The Match Committee is responsible for Rules Adjudications; Member Disciplinary Matters; Course Set-up and

any matters pertaining to the playing of golf at Claremont Golf Club. The Committee is made up of three Board

Members:

RULE 4 – PLAY AND CONDUCT ON THE COURSE

Members are expected to pay close attention to:

1. The Rules of Golf;

2. The etiquette of the Game

3. The Local Rules; and

4. Regulations governing conditions of play

(a) Players should make it their objective to complete their round of golf in 4 hours.

(b) The lowest marker in each playing group is deemed to be responsible for the conduct and

etiquette of the group.

(c) A player, on losing their ball, and are holding up a group/s they MUST IMMEDIATELY call the

following group through.

(d) Players are obliged to pick up immediately they realise that they will fail to score in a stableford

or par event.

(e) Players are to move away from the putting green before marking their cards.

(f) Divots must be replaced or repaired at all times. Replace divot (if possible), cover with sand and

compress or smooth with foot. Pitch marks on the green must be repaired and bunkers

smoothed after disturbing; with the rake being placed in the bunker with the handle facing

direction from which you played your shot. Each player must carry a sand bucket.

(g) Ties for last position in events where a qualifying round is conducted shall be determined on a

count-back. Current Golf Australia handicaps will apply in such play-off situations.

(h) All play, whether competition or not, must be played from the tees of the day.

(i) Calling up on par three’s is not permitted.

(j) Players using power golf buggies and motor bikes must abide by the rules set down covering their

use and must abide by any signage appearing on the course covering the direction such power

golf buggies and motor bikes are required to take.

(k) During the times that a starter is on duty they shall be in full charge of the tees. All players must

have their names entered on the booking sheet before commencing a round.

INTERPRETATION OF RULES

Should a player or marker be in doubt about the application of a rule of golf or a local rule to a particular

incident in the course of play, they should play two balls and, upon returning to the Clubhouse, report the

facts to a member of the Match Committee for a ruling. The card should not be signed until this ruling is given.

RULE 5 – VISITORS PLAYING

The following conditions shall apply to the introduction of playing visitors:

(a) Visitors shall not be permitted to play on the course on Saturday without prior approval (except on

Invitation Days).

(b) A Member shall not introduce more than three playing visitors without approval.

(c) A Member shall play with his/her visitor unless arranged with the Match Committee.

(d) No person shall be introduced as a visitor on more than four (4) occasions in any one calendar year,

except by permission of the Match Committee.

(e) A Member introducing a visitor or guest to the Club shall pay the visitors fee before commencing a

game.

(f) A Member introducing a visitor or guest shall be responsible for the conduct of the visitor or guest

both in the Clubhouse and on the course.

(g) A Member shall not knowingly introduce as a visitor or guest any person whose name has been

expunged from the Register of Members of the Club or who has been refused admission to

membership of the Club or any other Club.

For competition purposes a visitor must be a member of a Club affiliated with Golf Tasmania or similar

interstate or overseas association affiliated with the controlling authority.

RULE 6 – METHOD OF TAKING HANDICAP IN MATCH & STROKE PLAY

Match Play – Singles: The full difference between stroke play handicaps.

Handicap Variations:

Par and Stableford Full stroke handicap

Canadian Foursomes ½ combined handicaps

Foursomes – Stroke ½ combined handicaps

(Half stroke to be used where applicable. E.g. Combined handicap 37 = 18½ not 19)

Ambrose: ⅛ of the combined handicap for four players; ⅙ of the combined handicap for three

players; ½ combined handicap for two players.

Stableford system Strokes are taken on the allocated

of scoring: holes (after taking handicap into consideration).

Two or more strokes over par: 0 points

One stroke over par: 1 point

Par: 2 points

One stroke under par (birdie): 3 points

Two strokes under par (eagle): 4 points

RULE 7 – TEES

Members:

Blue Male Monthly Medal and Championship Events

White Selected competitions such as day competitions, practice and social rounds.

Red Selected female competitions such as day competitions, practice and social rounds.

Green ALL Social Play and selected competitions (eg. Veterans)

Yellow Short Course – Primarily for Social play, Beginners, Juniors and Seniors

RULE 8 – CARE OF COURSE

(a) Replace and repair all divots by carrying and using a sand bucket.

(b) Repair plug marks on green.

(c) Do not walk up the face of bunkers. Always leave a bunker by the way you entered it and smooth out

your marks. Rakes must be left in the bunker with the handle facing the direction from which you

played your shot.

(d) Do not traverse the putting green with a bag or buggy or place your bag or clubs on the putting green.

(e) Practice on fairways, in bunkers or to a green is limited to a maximum of two (2) balls. Use practice

areas provided.

(f) Members should protect the trees and shrubs growing around the course.

(g) Players shall at all times co-operate with the course staff and allow them to perform their tasks.

Course staff shall have right of way on all fairways.

RULE 9 – POWER BUGGIES AND MOTOR BIKES

This rule includes all batter powered buggies, battery powered scooters propelled by means of a combustion

engine and any other vehicle used as a buggy for the carriage of a player and golf clubs propelled by any

means other than human power.

Buggies and bikes are a privilege and subject to the following conditions:

(a) Buggies and bikes must not be driven on to tees or greens or between bunkers and greens. Where a

defined path exists this must be used.

(b) Buggies and bikes must not be driven or be left within five (5) metres of greens or tees. Where tees

and greens are in close proximity buggies and bikes may not be operated when the noise may distract

other players on the tee or green.

(c) Player using buggies or bikes must maintain their normal place in the field and will have no special

priority.

(d) Rapid acceleration is to be avoided so as to avoid noise pollution and erosion.

(e) Visitors must obtain approval of the Club Official (Pro Shop) prior to use of a buggy or bike on the

course and agree to comply with these rules.

(f) Persons using buggies or bikes should be covered by sufficient insurance to meet any circumstances

that may arise.

(g) Any motorised buggy or bike used within the boundaries of the Club must comply with specifications

as laid down by the Committee.

(h) Such buggies and bikes may only be used by licensed persons.

(i) Operators of all buggies and bikes must comply with any signage or line markings placed around the

course on the direction that any such buggy or bike must take.

(j) The Match Committee can suspend this privilege at any time.

RULE 10 – PERSONAL PROPERTY AND INSURANCE

(a) The Club will not be liable for any loss or injury to the property of any Member or visitor on the Club’s

premises. It is accepted that a ‘Reasonable Risk’ is taken when entering the golf course complex.

(b) Golf Clubs should not be left unattended outside the Clubhouse. Valuables should be locked away.

(c) Members should report any incident involving damage or likely damage caused by a ball being hit into

private property. This report should be made to the Office immediately a round has been completed.

The identity of the person who strikes the ball is to be reported.

(d) Members lockers – The security of the lockers is not the Club’s responsibility. Items of any value

should not be stored or left in the lockers.

RULE 11 – COMPLAINTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

(a) All complaints or recommendations should be made to the Office who will submit the same to the

Committee.

(b) Under no circumstances shall a Member or any guest reprimand an employee of the Club.

(c) No canvassing for donations, raffles or subscriptions is allowed unless approved by the Committee on

specific days.

RULE 12 – PARKING

(a) To avoid inconvenience to Members, cars etc are to be parked in the marked areas provided for this

purpose in the car park.

(b) Parking by Members is not permitted in the areas surrounding the Clubhouse.

RULE 13 – COMPETITION CARDS

A score card issued by the starter or other authorised person must be obtained before playing in any

competition and the required entrance fee paid. All cards must be dated, signed by the marker and

countersigned by the player. The score must then be entered into the computer in either the Clubhouse or

the Pro Shop immediately after the completion of the round and the card placed in the box provided.

ALL COMPETITION CARDS MUST BE RETURNED FOR HANDICAP PURPOSES.

RULE 14 – CHILDREN AND JUNIORS

Unaccompanied children, other than Junior Members, are not allowed on the course.

RULE 15 – ADVERTISING

No pamphlet, advertisement or notice of any kind may be exhibited in the Club without the permission of the

Board of Management.

RULE 16 – ANIMALS

No Member may bring an animal on the course or in the Clubhouse, without the express authorisation of

Management of the Club.

RULE 17 – GAMBLING

No part of the Clubhouse whatsoever may be used for the purpose of organised betting. Any Member

conducting organised betting on the premises may be expelled. This does not apply to Bingo Ticket Machines

or Raffles.

RULE 18 – RESIGNATION

Any Member intending to resign from the Club shall signify his/her intention in writing to the Office on or

before the 30th June or shall be liable for the subscription for the ensuring year.

Rule 19 – PRIORITY ON THE COURSE

When you arrange a game, particularly over the weekend, call the Golf Shop first or in the Events Section of

the Club’s Website to see what is being played. If it is a Stroke, Stableford or Par event the field will normally

be playing in fours. Any variation to this will appear on the time sheet.

If you can arrange your play with this in mind, you will not only conform to the requirements, but you will be

able to play with rights equal to the remainder of the field. If you do not conform to the field groupings you

must always give way to players following you, excepting in the case of single events where a two has equal

rights with the normal three or four.

RULE 20 – NEW MEMBERS

It is the responsibility of the proposer and seconder, immediately a nominee is elected to membership, to see

that each new member is introduced to other members, is advised of the rules governing the conduct of the

Club and above all, is sufficiently advanced in the knowledge of the rules of golf to be competent to perform

the duty of marker of a fellow competitor. Please see that you play with your nominee until they are so

equipped.

New Members with handicaps from other Clubs must have their handicaps verified before they are eligible to

participate in a competition.

RULE 21 – GENERAL

All Directors and the staff shall administer the Rules and By Laws of the Club.

Members are reminded to observe the Rules and By Laws of the Club at all times.

DAYLIGHT SAVING

Sunday 7th October, 2018 – Sunday 7th April, 2019

Sunday 6th October, 2019 – Sunday 5th April, 2020

ADVICE TO MEMBERS

Members are urged to consult the Club’s By Laws and Local Rules, observe golfing etiquette and obey the rules

governing play on the course at all times.

ETIQUETTE

(a) No one shall move or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole while a player is addressing

the ball or making a stroke.

(b) The player who has the honour shall be allowed to play before their opponent or fellow competitor

tees their ball.

(c) No player shall play until the players in front are out of range. If a match fails to keep pace on the

course and loses more than one clear hole on the players in front it must allow the match following to

pass through.

(d) In the interest of all, players should play without delay.

(e) Players searching for a ball should allow other players coming up to pass them. They should signal to

the players following them to pass and they should not continue with their play until those players

have passed and are out of range.

(f) Before leaving a bunker, a player should carefully rake and fill up all holes made by them and leave

the rake in the bunker with the handle facing the direction from which they played their shot.

(g) Through the green a player should ensure that any turf cut or displaced by them is replaced at once

and pressed down and that any damage to the putting green made by the ball or the player is

carefully repaired.

(h) Players should ensure that when dropping clubs or the flagstick no damage is done to the putting

green and that neither they nor their caddies damage the holes by standing sloe to the hole or

handling the flagstick. The flagstick should be property replaced in the hole before players leave the

putting green.

(i) Players using suction devices to retrieve their golf ball from the hole after putting should ensure that

the shaft of their club does not come in contact with the sides of the hole causing any damage or

indentation to the hole.

(j) When the play of the hole has been completed players should immediately leave the green and mark

their cards on the next tee.
