Five-Alarm Festival & Chili Cook-Off Returns to

Downtown Hampton’s Carousel Park October 8

Hampton, VA- This October, toss on a sweater for a “chili” day in downtown Hampton!

On Saturday, October 8, the Five-Alarm Festival returns to Carousel Park (602 Settlers

Landing Road, Hampton, VA 23669) complete with a chili cook-off, fire safety

demonstrations, children’s activities, exhibitors, and more. The event, taking place noon

– 4:00 p.m., will kick-off National Fire Prevention Week (October 9-15, 2016). The

theme of this year’s NFPW is “Don’t wait! Check the Date!: Replace Smoke Alarms

Every Ten Years.”

Teams will put their secret chili recipes to the test beginning at noon with a public cook-

off lasting until the chili runs out. Festival attendees can purchase a $5.00 ticket that will

entitle them to sample ALL of the chili recipes. Prizes will be awarded based on the

decisions of the judges.

Throughout the day, valuable safety information and free resources will be available to

citizens of all ages. Children will want to have their face painted and enjoy safety

activities at the festival’s fire education tent. A balloon artist will also be on site making

his creations. Other activities for this year’s festival include a K-9 accelerant

demonstration and other fire department presentations.

In addition to chili, Hampton Fire & Rescue will be on site selling hot dogs, hamburgers,

chips, and soda. Proceeds from chili and food sales will be used for fire prevention and

public education.

$5.00 to sample ALL of the chili recipes and vote for the People’s Choice Award,

“The Golden Pot of Chili” (10-12 chili samples, approximately 3 ounce cup per

sample)

*Chili tasting 12:00 Noon – 2:00 p.m. Chili available until it runs out.
