    FIU debuts Miami Summer Music Festival,attracts students from around the world

    MIAMI (June 2, 2014)- More than 150 students from leading music schools, universities andconservatories around the world will call FIU home, while they live on campus and participate in

    the Miami Summer Music Festival , a collaboration between the FIU School of Music andMichael Rossi , a conductor and the festivals founder and artistic director .

    We in the School of Music are delighted to be the host institution for this new and importantundertaking by Michael Rossi, which interfaces ideally with our continuing role as a cultural andeducational resource for South Florida and beyond , said Bill Hipp, FIU School of Musicsinterim director.

    The festival will run from June 9 to July 6, 2014 at FIUs School of Music at the Modesto A.Maidique Campus in southwest Miami-Dade.

    To be able to work closely with Florida International University School of Music in creating theMiami Summer Music Festival is a great experience, said Rossi. The facilities and support ofuniversity are exceptional, and Im positive that students will return home full of praise for boththe university and the festival .

    The summer program will focus on three areas opera, piano and orchestra. Students will havethe opportunity to train with leading artists including American baritone Sherrill Milnes;American pianist Agustin Anievas; the Amernet String Quartet; members of the PhiladelphiaOrchestra; and leading international artists and teachers from the Miami area, as well as FIUfaculty members.

    As part of the program, students will host public performances at FIUs Herbert and NicoleWertheim Performing Arts Center and throughout the Miami area. Highlights include fully-staged opera productions of Puccinis Suor Angelica; two Mozart operas, Le nozze di Figaro and

    Die Zauberflte; three symphony concerts; a special concert featuring winners of the festival'sconcerto competition; chamber music performances; and piano recitals. Also, master classes bySherrill Milnes and Agustin Anievas will be offered to the public at no charge.
