Fisher School Community Garden Project 2014-2015
The goal of our garden is to involve students, staff, families and our
community to transform a section of our school ground into an educational
and edible garden. In doing so, our children will learn healthy and
sustainable habits.

Harvests will be used by our school cafeteria for breakfasts and lunches.
We want children to learn where their food comes from.
Additional produce will be offered at Walpole’s Farmers Market and
donated to the Walpole Food Pantry, in an effort to support the growing
number of underserved population in our town.

Pesticide-free Garden
Note: All the chosen flowers are companion plants for the vegetables.
Some attract beneficial insects. Others repel or deter pest insects.
By “companion planting,” we can increase vigor and vegetable
production and create a pesticide-free garden. Pairing specific
vegetables next to each other, and the pairing of specific
vegetable/flower combinations will benefit our garden’s goals.

A former Fisher student has approached the Fisher farms Garden Committee and will be building and installing our 11 perimeter beds (the “U-shaped” beds that line the fence),
excavate and install pvc piping to run hoses underground to the garden, and perhaps a few more items. He will fundraise to buy the materials for these projects, to earn his Eagle Scout award.
