Objectives of Webinar #1 -‐ 17/10
¤ Provide an overview of the initiatives and projects carried out within GEF IW:LEARN
¤ Inspire a discussion on groundwater governance and the current/future GEF strategy on groundwater
¤ Inaugurate the Global Groundwater Forum as the permanent global interactive hub for groundwater resources dialogue
¤ Initiate a series of learning/exchanging events ¤ Contribute to the sustainable project activities that will be shared at the
GEF IW 7 conference in Barbados ¤ Extend the CoP beyond project closure in June 2014
The Global Environment Facility
¤ Financial mechanism unites 182 member governments — in partnership with international institutions, nongovernmental organizations, the civil society and the private sector -‐ to address global environmental issues.
¤ Born in 1991, today the GEF is the largest public funder of projects to improve the global environment.
¤ An independently operating financial organization, the GEF provides grants for projects related to different focal areas: biodiversity, climate change, international waters, land degradation, and persistent organic pollutants.

International Waters Learning Exchange And Resource Network
Goals: ¤ To strengthen Transboundary Waters Management (TWM) by facilitating portfolio learning and information/knowlegde management amongst GEF IW projects and partners and by providing a series of services to facilitate this exchange
¤ IWLEARN.NET supports knowledge sharing in the GEF IW portfolio and contains project-‐related information, contacts, documents, e.g. case studies, Transboundary Diagnostic Analyses, Strategic Action Programmes, news and events.
