Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults All parishioners are welcome to join us and support those who are actively seeking a better understanding of the Catholic Faith. The topic this week is: Sacraments of Vocation-Holy Orders. We meet in Seton Hall Tuesday, December 1, 7:30—9:00 pm.

New to St. Elizabeth Parish? Register on December 17

We invite all those interested in joining St. Elizabeth parish to join us Thursday, December 17 at 6:30pm in the Parish Ministry Center (northeast corner of Main and 75th Streets). The registration form is quick and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have. You must be a registered parishioner for sacramental preparation. To sign up for this session call Sandi Lombardino at the parish office, 816.523.2405.

Homily Focus Group What it is: St. Elizabeth parishioners meet for an

hour and reflect on the Sunday Readings in the current liturgical cycle. This is done by looking at how the Scriptures apply to concrete situations in our lives and in the world. Reflections will assist the priest to prepare a homily that is suited to the needs of the community. In addition to this, the exercise will help one to grow in deeper appreciation of Scripture and prepare one to better hear the readings proclaimed at Mass. Several parishioners have already been involved in this and have enjoyed it very much. I myself have found it very helpful and enriching to my own spiritual life.

When it is: There are several dates I have set aside for the remainder of the year. The meetings will be from 7 pm to 8 pm on the following days.

Thursday, December 3 Second Sunday in Advent ~ Year C

Wednesday, December 9 Third Sunday in Advent ~ Year C

Wednesday, December 16 Fourth Sunday in Advent ~ Year C

Where it is : In the PMC conference room. I hope to have approximately 7 people at each

meeting. You can sign up for as many or as few as you would like. First come first serve.

Please call me at 816.300.0755 or email me at [email protected] to reserve a spot or for any questions.

Preparation for Infant Baptism Our next Baptismal Preparation session will

be Thursday, December 17 ~ 7:30 to 8:45pm in the Parish Ministry Center. If you are a registered parishioner and wish to attend this session call Sandi at 816.523.2405.

Tax-Free IRA Gifts Extended Did you know that federal law still allows tax-free

charitable distributions from your IRA? Charitable taxpayers who are 70 and one-half or older can direct ―qualified charitable distributions‖ from their fund administrator directly to the charities of their choice, including one’s parish, school or favorite ministry.

Anyone with an IRA who is 70 and one-half years old or older at the time of the distribution should explore this possibility. This provision was renewed to cover the period through December 31, 2009. For the details, contact your legal or financial advisor or Greg Vranicar at 816.756.1858 x 529.

Gospel of John. The first two sessions are in Advent-Wednesday evenings December 2 and December 9, 7 pm in the narthex of Christ the King Church (85th and Wornall Road). No cost. No registration needed. Just come and bring your bible. The remaining sessions will be on 3 Wednesdays of January and 2 Wednesdays of Lent (March). Learn the Gospel of John thoroughly. First Sunday of Advent Advent provides an opportunity for us to begin again

and to prepare ourselves anew for the coming of Jesus Christ. It is a time of waiting and expectation, of anticipation and preparation. We can use the coming weeks for personal prayer, growth and change in the way we live. Anticipating the Nativity of Jesus, we can dedicate special time toward considering our relationship with Him. As we recall previous Advents, we remember those who inspire us through their faith and actions. We too can be memorable mentors and models to others through our demonstrations of discipleship and stewardship.

Friendship Club Don’t forget that our king size quilt will be raffled off

Saturday, December 5th at the ―Big Twelve‖ championship football game that will be televised in Seton Hall. The Knights of Columbus will be providing dinner and ample ways to watch the game!

If you answered ―yes‖ to both or one of these questions (or even if you answered ―no‖ to both) then you are invited to come to a series of talks (a total of 3) on the Catholic faith given by Fr. Christian this Advent season

Talks are based on the ―Evangelium‖ catechetical program that makes use of interactive PowerPoint presentations and Catholic art to teach the truths of the faith.

Each session will be approximately 1 ½ hours in length and will also include prayer and some discussion.

The dates, times and topics are as follows: Session I: November 30th—7-8:30pm –The

Meaning of Life/Creation and the Fall Session II: December 7th –7-8:30 pm—Mary and

the Four Last Things/The Incarnation Session III: December 14th –7-8:30pm—Life of

Prayer/Praying the Mass/Lectio Divina (Spiritual reading)
