FELLOWSHIP AT FIRST (SCOTS)

A Note from the Property Committee Beginning January 2, 2013, the Sanctuary will be undergoing some much needed repairs to the HVAC system and painting of walls and ceiling areas. Pipes beneath the Sanctuary floor, downstairs only, will be removed and new pipes installed. The boiler is also being replaced. Repairs to the walls and painting of the walls and a portion of the ceiling will additionally take place. As a result, on January 2nd the floor under the pews on the Tradd St. side will be removed and a temporary wall will be installed to help reduce dust in the rest of the Sanctuary on the lower floor only. Upon completion, including the pews put back in place, the temporary wall will be moved to the graveyard side and those pews will be removed for similar work to be completed on that side. The two middle sections of the Sanctuary will always be available and at least one side section throughout this renovation process. Sunday Worship Services will continue to be held in the Sanctuary as regularly scheduled, but the Prayer Partners will be temporarily located in the church parlor. We understand this will be a slight inconvenience but rest assured, these repairs are much needed to prevent major repairs at a later date. The entire process should be completed by February 8, 2013. During this time the regularly scheduled Wednesday Night Chapel and Taize Services will be postpone and will resume their regular schedule once the repairs are completed. Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks from Bert Hudnall THANKS and BLESSINGS to all who contributed time, good will, and lots of happy faces to this year’s Progressive Dinner. This event always evokes wonderful comments, and this year more than ever. The spirit of Christmas and of First (Scots) shone through, and on behalf of 120 revelers who enjoyed the festive evening, I express sincerest gratitude. The beautiful homes of Brooks & Dennis Holt, Margaret & David McCormack, and Lizzie & Brent Hamilton were the settings for the evening’s enjoyment, but even more notable was the beautiful hospitality displayed by the hosts. My thanks to these kind people are limitless, as it is for the can-do attitudes they evidenced throughout the planning process. “Of course” was the standard reply to any request. What a wonderful experience it was working with them! That can also be said of Jane McNeill, who again assisted me immeasurably with details, leg work, and important follow-through. Women are better organized than men, and I benefited from Jane’s orderly approach to everything. The corps of volunteers who greeted guests, kept the food tables replenished, tended bar, and helped with packing boxes and distributing them to the homes on the afternoon of the dinner deserve stars for being MVPs on this team. They included Ted Brush, Gordon & Linda Bondurant, Boyce & Sherry Cox, Kathy Davis, Erika Marshall, and John McNeill. So many others offered to help, and I appreciate their willingness to be in the wings. Wilhelmina, Annie, Linda, and Troy from the church staff played invaluable roles in the success of the evening, and “We couldn’t have done it without you” is a very apt phrase for these folks. A very special word of thanks to Anne Walpole, our receptionist nonpareil, who kept meticulous records, answered many questions with a lilt in her voice, and gave me assurance at every turn that it would all turn out just right. And it did! The pleasure that the Progressive Dinner provides so many people is very real, as is the corroboration it offers that we are all members of a truly wonderful church…. again, THANKS and BLESSINGS.. Bert Hudnall

Before setting out on their adventure, the group learned about how My Sister’s House protects children who have experienced abuse. The group also re-

membered the Parable of the Good Samaritan and Jesus’ call to love our neighbors as ourselves. It was a lot of fun!
