Defeated Every Opponent During Tbe Course Of Tbe Season.

If the script for Kearney wrestling is growing stale, one can be sure that Coach Chadwick does not want a new one written.

As in previous years, we dominated City-Catholic league opponents while reclaiming the number one position. At the season's close, few people disputed the fact that we were the power of Monroe County Wrestling.

This title, however, was not given to us on a silver platter. We worked long, tough hours to earn it. More often than not, we were stdl practicmg at 6:30 pm -long after mo~t students have gone home.

One can only speculate as to when Bishop Kearney might "loosen its grip" on the City Catholic crown. But one thing is certain, as long as Kearney holds onto it's coaching staff and as long as the athletes remain dedica ted to the sport, the wrestlmg program at BK promises to remain ranked w1th the best for years to come.

The wrestling scene was changed slightly for the 1979-80 season. Rather than havmg both a Freshman and JV team, our coaches combined the squads to form a larger, more efficient group of athletes. This change meant that the Freshmen wrestlers jumped directly into the Junior Varsity level of competition. It was tough at f1rst, but the experience gained will definately prove beneficial to the Varsity Squad in future years.

As for the 1979-80 seac;on. the emphasis was partly on learning. We did well m competition, but our success was quite naturally overshadowed a bit by the tremendous performance of the Varsity "matmen."

The outlook for Varsity Wrestling fans continues to be optimistic. The depth of our JV team is more than adequate to replace quality Varsity wrestlers lost at the 1980 graduating ceremonies. And with a season already under their belts, the Frosh promise to make next year's JV squad the team to beat.
