Adoration Easter Proclamation The Reverend Pen Peery One: Christ is risen! All: He is risen indeed! One: Let us worship God. *Choral Call to Worship Thomas Matthews The day of resurrection! Earth, tell it out abroad; for Christ the Lord is Risen, our joy that hath no end. Alleluia!

*Processional Hymn No. 232 easter hymn/arr. Todd Wilson“Jesus Christ Is Risen Today”

Prayer of the Day The Reverend Katherine Kerr One: Living God, the broken body of Jesus no longer occupies the grave, All: for by the power of your Spirit, you have brought life from death. One: In every word, Jesus taught All: that love is stronger than hate. One: In every deed, he demonstrated All: that your welcome includes everyone. One: In every relationship, he loved All: with a love that does not let go. One: It is Easter because All: his words were true, and his deeds were holy, and his life revealed your heart, O God. The broken body of Jesus no longer occupies the grave. Your love not only raised Jesus from the dead, but also calls us by name, and grants death no power to pull us from you. In the name of the risen Christ, we pray. Amen.

*Response ellacombe The day of resurrection! Earth, tell it out abroad, the Passover of gladness, the Passover of God. From death to life eternal, from sin’s dominion free, our Christ has brought us over with hymns of victory.

Proclamation Prayer for Illumination

Scripture 2 Corinthians 4:7-14 pew Bible pg. 180 One: This is the word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God. Anthem “Easter Anthem” William Billings/ed. Robert Shaw The Lord is risen, indeed! Hallelujah! Now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept. Hallelujah. And did he rise? Did he rise? Hear it, ye nations! Hear it, O ye dead! He rose; he burst the bars of death and triumphed o’er the grave. Then, I rose. Then, first humanity triumphant passed the crystal ports of light and seized eternal youth. Man all immortal, hail, heaven all lavish of strange gifts to man. Thine’s all the glory, man’s the boundless bliss. Response*Affirmation of Faith The Reverend Erika Funk(from A Brief Statement of Faith) Jesus is our living Lord. Jesus was dead and buried, but God raised him from the dead. We are certain that Jesus lives. He lives as God with us, touching all of human life with the presence of God. He lives as one of us with God. Because he shares our humanity and has bound us to himself in love, we have an advocate in the innermost life of God. We declare that Jesus is Lord. We maintain that ultimate sovereignty now belongs to Jesus Christ in every sphere of life. Jesus is Lord! He has been Lord from the beginning. He will be Lord at the end. Even now he is Lord.

Prayers of the People

Stewardship of Life One Great Hour of Sharing Presentation of Tithes and Offering

Offertory Anthem “Joy to the Heart” K. Lee Scott Look there! The Christ, our brother, comes resplendent from the gallows tree, and what he brings in his hurt hands is life on life for you and me. Joy! Joy! Joy to the heart all in this good day’s dawning! Good Jesus Christ inside his pain looked down Golgotha’s stony slope and let the blood flow from his flesh to fill the springs of living hope. Good Jesus Christ, our brother died in darkest hurt upon the tree to offer us the worlds of light that live inside the Trinity. Joy! Joy! Joy to the heart all in this good day’s dawning!

*Doxology (Hymn No. 606) lasst uns erfreuen Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Praise him all creatures here below: Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise God, the source of all our gifts! Praise Jesus Christ whose power uplifts! Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

*Prayer of Dedication and The Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Sending Forth *Hymn No. 268 “Crown Him with Many Crowns” diademata

*Charge and Benediction

*Benediction Response “Hallelujah” from Messiah George Frideric Handel

Postlude Finale from Symphony No. 1 Louis Vierne

The One Great Hour of Sharing offering makes the love of Christ real for individuals and communities around the world who suffer the effects of disaster, conflict, or severe economic hardship. A gift to One Great Hour of Sharing enables the church to share God’s love with our neighbors-in-need around the world by providing relief while helping to empower the poor and oppressed.

Today’s offertory anthem, by American composer K. Lee Scott, proclaims the joy of the resurrection. The congregation is invited to stand and join in singing the fourth verse.

A time of personal prayer is offered following both services. If you would like to pray with a pastor and a member of our prayer team, please meet them in the sanctuary overflow area after the 9 a.m. service or in the chapel following the 11 a.m. service.

*Please stand if you are able.

*Hymn No. 232 “Jesus Christ Is Risen Today”

1 Christ has arisen, alleluia.Rejoice and praise him, alleluia. For our redeemer burst from the tomb, even from death, dispelling its gloom.

Refrain:Let us sing praise to him with endless joy.Death’s fearful sting he has come to destroy. Our sin forgiving, alleluia!Jesus is living, alleluia!

2 For three long days the grave did its worstuntil its strength by God was dispersed. He who gives life did death undergo, and in its conquest his might did show. (Refrain)

3 The angel said to them, “Do not fear. You look for Jesus who is not here.See for yourselves the tomb is all bare.Only the grave clothes are lying there.” (Refrain)

4 “Go spread the news: he’s not in the grave. He has arisen this world to save.Jesus’ redeeming labors are done.Even the battle with sin is won.” (Refrain)

5 Christ has arisen to set us free.Alleluia, to him praises be.Jesus is living! Let us all sing;he reigns triumphant, heavenly King. (Refrain)

*Hymn No. 251 “Christ Has Arisen, Alleluia”

1 Jesus Christ is risen today,Alleluia!our triumphant holy day,Alleluia!who did once upon the cross,Alleluia!suffer to redeem our loss.Alleluia!

2 Hymns of praise then let us sing,Alleluia!unto Christ, our heavenly King,Alleluia!who endured the cross and grave,Alleluia!sinners to redeem and save.Alleluia!

3 But the pains which he endured,Alleluia!our salvation have procured.Alleluia! Now above the sky he’s King,Alleluia!where the angels ever sing.Alleluia!

4 Sing we to our God above,Alleluia!praise eternal as God’s love.Alleluia!Praise our God, ye heavenly host,Alleluia!Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.Alleluia!

1 Crown him with many crowns, the Lamb upon his throne;hark, how the heavenly anthem drownsall music but its own!Awake, my soul, and singof him who died for thee, and hail him as thy matchless Kingthrough all eternity.

2 Crown him the Lord of love;behold his hands and side, rich wounds, yet visible above,in beauty glorified:no angel in the skycan fully bear that sight, but downward bends his burning eyeat mysteries so bright.

3 Crown him the Lord of peace, whose power a scepter swaysfrom pole to pole, that wars may cease, absorbed in prayer and praise. His reign shall know no end;and round his pierced feetfair flowers of paradise extendtheir fragrance ever sweet.

4 Crown him the Lord of years, the potentate of time;creator of the rolling spheres, ineffably sublime. All hail, Redeemer, hail! For thou hast died for me;thy praise shall never, never failthroughout eternity.
