UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION – Genesis 45, Psalm 133, Psalm 139 Gracious and loving Father, we have come here today for a family reunion! We know that we are sisters and brothers in Christ. Each of us is your precious child. And yet there is division in this family. There is sibling rivalry, old resentments, new irritations. We are quick to anger, slow to forgive. We would rather choose our relatives, than acknowledge the all-inclusive nature of your family.

Open our hearts to your love and show us the way of reconciliation. Teach us to see each brother and sister with your eyes. Help us claim our heritage as your own children and live together in unity as your family.

Father, search our hearts and if there is anything that is offensive take it away and lead us in the way to everlasting.

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS OUR GRATEFUL RESPONSE – “Sanctuary”

GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS WORD

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION……….………………………..Elder Fred Hofing HOLY SCRIPTURE

Old Testament – Deuteronomy 6:1-9 1 "Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the ordinances which the LORD your God commanded me to teach you, that you may do them in the land to which you are going over, to possess it; 2 that you may fear the LORD your God, you and your son and your son's son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life; and that your days may be prolonged. 3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and be careful to do them; that it may go well with you, and that you may multiply greatly, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey. 4 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD; 5 and you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. 6 And these words which I command you this day shall be upon your heart; 7 and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 And you shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Gospel - Matthew 28:16-20 16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age."

*PREACHING TEXT

Old Testament – Genesis 45:1-15 1 Then Joseph could not control himself before all those who stood by him; and he cried, "Make every one go out from me." So no one stayed with him when Joseph made himself known to his brothers. 2 And he wept aloud, so that the Egyptians heard it, and the household of Pharaoh heard it. 3 And Joseph said to his brothers, "I am Joseph; is my father still alive?" But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed at his presence. 4 So Joseph said to his brothers, "Come near to me, I pray you." And they came near. And he said, "I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. 5 And now do not be distressed, or angry with yourselves, because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life. 6 For the famine has been in the land these two years; and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. 7 And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. 8 So it was not you who sent me here, but God; and he has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house and ruler over all the land of Egypt. 9 Make haste and go up to my father and say to him, `Thus says your son Joseph, God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me, do not tarry; 10 you shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near me, you and your children and your children's children, and your flocks, your herds, and all that you have; 11 and there I will provide for you, for there are yet five years of famine to come; lest you and your household, and all that you have, come to poverty.' 12 And now your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin see, that it is my mouth that speaks to you. 13 You must tell my father of all my splendor in Egypt, and of all that you have seen. Make haste and bring my father down here." 14 Then he fell upon his brother Benjamin's neck and wept; and Benjamin wept upon his neck. 15 And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them; and after that his brothers talked with him.

One Voice: The word of the Lord! All Voices: Thanks be to God!

*WE AFFIRM OUR FAITH – The Westminster Standards ‘The Shorter Catechism’ (1647 – England)

7.027 – Q.27. – Wherein did Christ’s humiliation consist?

A.27. – Christ’s humiliation consisted in his being born, and that in a low condition, made under the law, undergoing the miseries of this life, the wrath of God, and the cursed death of the cross, in being buried, and in continuing under the power of death for a time.

7.028 - Q.28. – Wherein did Christ exaltation consist? A.28. – Christ’s exaltation consisted in his rising again from the dead on the third day, in ascending up into heaven, in sitting at the righthand of God the Father, and in coming to judge the world at the last day.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
