CALL TO WORSHIP

On this, the birthday of the Christian Church,

let us welcome God's Holy Spirit into our hearts.

On this, the birthday of the Church,

let us welcome God’s Spirit into the heart

of our Church.

*HYMN: “God of Our Fathers, Whose Almighty Hand”

PH #433 (V.1-3)

PRAYER OF INVOCATION (unison)

Come, O Creator, O Immensity of Love, O Eternity of Mercy,

Come and be with us and in us and beside us and over us.

Be as hands upon us, and fashion us for shining.

Be as warmth within us, and fire us for caring.

Be as strength beside us, and shape our lives for healing.

Abide in our prayers, the spoken and the unspoken;

And make your Word come true in our lives,

through Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Amen.

*THE LORD'S PRAYER (trespasses) Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on

earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we

forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever. Amen.

ANTHEM: “The Eyes of All Wait Upon Thee”

Jean Berger (1909-2002)

The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.

Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of ev’ry living thing.

(Psalm 145:15, 16)

MORNING PRAYER

CONGREGATION’S JOYS AND CONCERNS The Spirit helps us in our weakness;

for we sometimes do not know what to pray.

The Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words;

Yet God searches our hearts and knows what we need.

Come down, O Love divine,

Seek out this soul of mine.

Visit our souls with Your own ardor glowing:

O comforter, draw near.

Within my heart appear.

And kindle me with your holy, passionate flame. Amen.

Let us pray…

OFFERTORY ANTHEM: Holy Spirit, Ever Dwelling

Text: Timothy Reese (1874-1939)

Music: Michael Burkhardt (b.1957) Alice Marie “Alrie” Terrill Memorial Music

Holy Spirit, ever dwelling

In the holiest realms of light;

Holy Spirit, ever brooding

O’er a world of gloom and night;

Holy Spirit, every raising

Those of earth to thrones on high;

Living life-imparting Spirit,

You we praise and magnify.

Holy Spirit, ever living

As the Church’s very life;

Holy Spirit, every striving

Through us in a ceaseless strife;

Holy Spirit ever forming

In the Church the mind of Christ;

You we praise with endless worship

For your fruits and gifts unpriced.

Holy Spirit, ever working

Through the Church’s ministry;

Quick’ning, strength’ning and

absolving,

Setting captive sinners free;

Holy Spirit, every binding

Age to age and soul to soul

In communion never ending,

You we worship and extol.

*DOXOLOGY Praise God from whom all blessings flow, Praise God all creatures here below,

Praise God above ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*HYMN: “Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness” NCH #286

Emelia Attridge is leaving us to pursue a call to ministry.

Our program has three pieces which involve planning and implementing:

Faith based Sunday morning programs (an established curriculum

which can be planned around and expanded on)

Mission/Community outreach programs

Social activities outside of Sunday mornings

Candidates must be able to relate to youth of today and run a program which

is educational and spiritually rewarding while being engaging and

entertaining for participants. Programs will welcome, value and support

youth as they develop and build faith through the inspiration and

encouragement of the Youth Director. Our program goal is to build a strong

community among our youth.

Strong communication, organization skills and experience with planning and

running programs for adolescents is expected.

Candidates should also have a strong foundation of Christian faith and

beliefs to be comfortable with Congregational traditions, although many of

our families have an Ecumenical background.

A support staff is in place including a Christian Education Committee,

Christian Ministry Coordinator and Pastor. In addition, our parents provide

support through active volunteering.

First Parish Church follows compensation guidelines set by the U.C.C. and

adheres to the standard SAFE church policies.

Resources and training are available through the United Church of Christ

(UCC), if needed.

The position would start August/September, 2015
