Apollo 11 was the spaceflight that landed the first humans on the Moon, Americans Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, on July 20, 1969.Armstrong became the first to step onto the lunar surface 6 hours later on July 21 Armstrong spent about two and a half hours outside the spacecraft, Aldrin slightly less; and together they collected 47.5 pounds (21.5 kg) of lunar material for return to Earth. A third member of the mission, Michael Collins, piloted the command spacecraft alone in lunar orbit until Armstrong and Aldrin returned to it just under a day later for the trip back to Earth.

PLANETS

Page 21: First man on the moon

A planet is a large object that travels around the sun. Earth is one of the planets in our solar system. Planets are much smaller than the sun and the stars.

Page 22: First man on the moon

Planets do not produce their own light the way the sun and other stars do. The planets can be seen only because light from the sun shines on them.

Page 23: First man on the moon

Going outward from the sun, the planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Other stars also have planets around them.
