So I want to offer to you a few practices that I’m using to help me slow down: 1) I’m writing down or sharing with others one blessing from each day. Many already do this, but what if, no matter your schedule, you found the time to remember a blessing from the day together? Writing it down can be even more beneficial, because it both helps cement them in our brains and gives us something we can refer back to. 2) I’m also making a God-plan for each week. For me summer means that my schedule is out of whack, and God-time suffers. What I’ve just started doing is sitting down at the beginning of the week and planning in my God time. It doesn’t have to be reading the Bible silently at home. For me, it’s often a walk (and can even be a walk with your family!) where I am attentive to and thankful for the beauty around me. In the midst of summer chaos, even when you’re at a tournament or on vacation, what if you penciled in that time with God, and made intentional space for it? 3)Finally a small quiet moment can be a holy space; try spending a moment with Psalm 8. (I’ve edited it a bit to make it more like a prayer): O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Nursing infants gurgle choruses about you; toddlers shout the songs…When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, The moon and the stars, and all that you have established, What are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?…O Lord, our God how majestic is your name in all the earth! Finding God in the Summer Chaos

The summer season is a bit of a paradox for many of us. On the one hand, we breathe a collective sigh of relief that school is out and the weather is better. What I notice, though, is that most of us are still running around like crazy in the summer, from one thing to the next.

So I want to offer to you a few practices that I’m using to help me slow down:

1) I’m writing down or sharing with others one blessing from each day. Many already dothis, but what if, no matter your schedule, you found the time to remember a blessing from the daytogether? Writing it down can be even more beneficial, because it both helps cement them in ourbrains and gives us something we can refer back to.

2) I’m also making a God-plan for each week. For me summer means that my schedule is outof whack, and God-time suffers. What I’ve just started doing is sitting down at the beginning of theweek and planning in my God time. It doesn’t have to be reading the Bible silently at home. Forme, it’s often a walk (and can even be a walk with your family!) where I am attentive to andthankful for the beauty around me. In the midst of summer chaos, even when you’re at atournament or on vacation, what if you penciled in that time with God, and made intentional spacefor it?

3)Finally a small quiet moment can be a holy space; try spending a moment with Psalm 8.(I’ve edited it a bit to make it more like a prayer): O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth! (The Message)

What makes you want to shout: How majestic is your name in all the earth!?

NEW THIS YEAR Mandatory Parent Meetings for both TLC Wednesday & TLC Sunday Parents:

There is a new policy in place this year at First Lutheran Church that will benefit everyone involved in the TLC Wednesday and Sunday programs. Parents of students registered for TLC Wednesday & TLC Sunday must attend one of the parent meetings offered before their child is allowed to attend TLC. Partnering in your child’s faith journey is very important and there are several key items that we need to communicate to all parents of children participating in the TLC programs here at First Lutheran. Also, we feel it is

extremely important for parents to be given the opportunity to ask questions. The TLC Parent Meetings will be specific to TLC Wednesdays & TLC Sundays so please choose the one that pertains to the program your child will be attending. If for some reason, one of the meeting options does not work for your family, please contact us by email: Kitsi – [email protected] or Tonya – [email protected] .

Other Important Items

Once again our beautiful sanctuary will be filled with the sounds of ringing bells starting this fall. It is the hope of the present ringers and director that you would join the bell choir to fill those vacant spots. The thought is that we would ring 4 times during the school year so we would not be practicing every Wednesday evening. Times and dates to be determined. The Bell Choir adds to worship where no other music can. Please think about giving your musical talent to this worthy cause.

Call Steve Meyer at 507-530-3256 or the church office if you are interested.
