It seems that modern humans are unable to live without insecurities andillusions. Along with some of the greatest achievements, an irrational faith andbelief in technological and scientific progress has led to some of the worstcrimes in human history. Throughout the twentieth century, more people havebeen killed by war technologies and scientific developments than in any other

era. Morality has been undermined by truth serums, mind controlexperimentations, and genetic manipulation (first into the mind). Ethics andeven life itself has been unable to keep pace with satellites, spaceships andweapons systems sent into outer space (first in space). When such knowledge-enabled mass destruction becomes one with militarism and war, societiesborder on reconstructed worlds like that of Dr. Moreau's, Frankenstein's or Lordof the Flies. Even worse, technological and scientific arrogance can stupefyreason and subject enlightened thinking and rational thought to the tyranny oftechnology and its indoctrinating powers. Thus, unnatural environmentalcatastrophes and bouts of enormous human suffering can easily occur, manufactured by humanities desire to be triumphant and to dominate.

Jacques Monod, a French Nobel Prize winner, believed that some modernsocieties had become dependent on science and technology as an addict on hisdrugs. The year 1961 was the same year the CIA attempted to militarily invadeand re-conquer Cuba. When the U.S. refused to demilitarize Berlin and make ita free city, Russia's Premier Nikita Khrushchev, and to stop East Berliners fromfleeing to West Berlin, erected a massive and threatening wall. Meanwhile,President John F. Kennedy sent more troops to Berlin and requested a200,000-man increase in the armed forces. To throw his Cold War adversary offguard, he announced America's intention to beat Russia to the Moon. Not to beoutdone, Russia tested a thermonuclear device, estimated to be 57 million tonsof trinitrotoluene-TNT. And while the CIA was experimenting with thoughtcontrol, it also assassinated Patrice Lumumba of Congo. In democratic SouthKorea, 50,000 U.S. troops stand by as an anti-communist military junta seizedpower and decreed absolute military dictatorship. Newton Minow, FederalCommunications Commission chairman, warned television programming was a"vast wasteland" and was filled with "a procession of game shows, violence, formula comedies about totally unbelievable families...blood, mayhem, violence, sadism, murder, more violence, cartoons...and endless commercials." Thefollowing year would witness the Cuban Missile Crises and a near nuclearholocaust-like disaster.

(The Cold War, fought between the United States and Soviet Union, includingtheir allies, would last five decades. It would occur in dozens of nations andregions of the world at the expense of over thirty million lives, most of theminnocent civilians, and trillions of dollars.)

Modern humanity no longer needs indoctrination camps or mind controlexperiments, for it already has been imprisoned and managed and held hostageby mad political scientists and insane political technocrats bent on ruling andmilitarizing the world. With their insecure and irrational faiths in science andtechnology, they either try to prove or disprove God's existence. During the Cold

War, Khrushchev once said in a speech: "Gagarin flew into space, but didn'tsee any god there." At the other end of the celestial spectrum, the United States
