“Give thanks

to the Lord,

for he is good,

for his mercy

endures forever.” Psalm 118:1

This is one of he 10 secret prayers prayed quietly by the priest. This one is one of two choices right after the Lamb of God but before the Priest says “ Behold the Lamb of God....” before communion. Then the Priest, with hands joined, says quietly: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, Who, by the will of the Father and the work of the Holy Spirit, through your Death gave life to the world, free me by this, your most holy Body and Blood, from all my Sins and from every evil: Keep me always faithful to your commandments, and never let me be parted from you.

Happy Easter! The 50 days of Easter lasts until Pentecost!

It’s the time when we are meant to experience what it means when we say Christ is risen. It’s

the season when we hear and ponder the begin-nings of our Church, the gifts of the Spirit, and

the meaning and mission of discipleship, on what joining in the Eucharist commits us to be and do.

“I am the Good Shepherd ...; I know my sheep and my sheep know me.”

Dear Friends,

Today's Gospel invites us to let ourselves be known by Jesus the Good Shepherd. Let's open our hearts with trust to the one who laid down His life for us. Jesus: When I created you, I built two needs into your soul: the need to love and the need to be loved. If you don’t learn to love, you will never flourish, and if you don’t discover that you are loved, you will never learn to love. Love is always a two-way street -- an exchange, an embrace. It’s much harder for you to let yourself be loved than it is to love, because to be loved, you have to let yourself be known. You cannot be loved fully by someone who doesn’t know you fully. This is why every earthly love is precarious; you never know if the person who loves you will continue to do so when they know you better.

I know you through and through, completely even better than you know yourself. I know all the things you keep hidden from others, all the things about you that you barely understand your-self. I know you so thoroughly because I gave you life, I brought you into existence, and I have been holding you and sustaining you every instant of your life. I know you uniquely and totally, so I can love you as no one else can. You never have to worry about my love waning, because I have already shown you, while you were a still a sinner, still a rebel, that my love endures to the end, even to death on a cross. You have nothing left to fear. Nothing is hidden from me, and yet I still love you without an ounce of ambiguity or reluctance. I know you, and now you know me. I love you, so come now and love me…

(This meditation is taken from “The Better Part: A Christ-Centered Resource for Personal Prayer” by Fr. John Bartunek)

The Sleeping St. Joseph

“The vulnerability of St. Joseph asleep

disarms our hesitation in approaching him.

We know to be restful, we must

be trusting. In times of anxiety

and lack of trust, sleep often eludes.

One finds consolation in gazing on St. Joseph asleep, knowing we, too, can

leave our cares to God.”

~Roxanne B. Salonen catholicvineyard.com

Prayer to St. Joseph

O Saint Joseph, you are a man greatly favored by the Most High.

The angel of the Lord appeared to you in dreams, while you slept, to warn you and guide you as you cared for the Holy Family. You

were both silent and strong, a loyal and courageous protector.

Dear Saint Joseph, as you rest in the Lord, confident of His

absolute power and goodness, look upon me. Please take my need

(mention your request) into your heart, dream of it, and present it to

your Son. Help me then, good Saint Joseph, to hear the voice of God, to arise, and act with love. I praise and thank God with joy.

Saint Joseph, I love you. Amen.
