First Bapti s t Church’s
April 20, 2016 May Newsletter
“Where CHRIST Is the Center”
Folks, thank you for a wonderful "official" welcome to First Baptist Church. The reception last Sunday evening was a real treat. Hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, peanuts, and Cracker Jacks--that was a fine baseball party! I want to express my thanks to Bro. Ricky and the Search Committee for the gracious and patient way they have worked with me in the Pastor Search process. I also want to thank Anna and her decorating crew for the way they transformed the Fellowship Hall for the reception! I also want to thank Bro. Randal for the delicious deer sausage. I don't think I have ever eaten deer sausage at a baseball park, but it's a great idea! And finally, I want to thank all of you who attended. I know I am leaving out a lot of names here; I hope I am conveying the idea that Lea and Ross and I are truly grateful to be a part of the FBC family and that we greatly appreciated the reception. And if we are thinking baseball and summertime, then you know that VBS is right around the corner. Vacation Bible School is a signature summer event for most churches. It is a wonderful opportunity to tell the story of Jesus to our community. The date for our VBS is approaching rapidly, so I encourage you to get involved. If you have already signed up to work, thank you! If you think you might be able to work even for just a day or two, or an hour or two, or even supply some craft supplies, or you-name-it, make sure you talk to Bro. Bryan and let him know about your availability. On top of that, all of us should be praying that God will open hearts that week as we talk about the Gospel. In the next few weeks, we will pre-registering our church children for VBS, having a community pre-registration event on May 25
th, and having a decorating and praying event on June 1
st.
Thank you in advance for all of your hard work! Brother Ed

Jesus said “Come unto Me”
We all have gone through or will go
through a time of grief. Now grief is
not limited to just a time of suffering
during the loss of a loved one. Grief
can come during any low point in our
life. Matthew 11:28 we read that
Jesus says "Come unto Me, all you
who labor and are heavy laden, and I
will give you rest." Jesus wants us to
come to him for encouragement,
come to him for a merciful invitation
and to come to him with gracious
expectation.
Our prayer lives allow us opportunity
to meet Jesus and for Jesus to meet
us where we are. I am thrilled to
announce that we have set aside a
prayer garden that you will soon
notice on the side of our sanctuary
which has the portico. This garden
has been designed with prayer as its
emphasis. It is our hope that you will
enjoy this special space on the
campus of First Baptist Church,
Geneva for many years. It is a
memorial prayer garden so, if you
would be interested in making a
memorial gift towards this, please
earmark your contribution to Prayer
Garden.
Blessings!
Bro. Bryan
