FLOUR FOR YOKEFELLOW
May Flour Goal: 30
May Flour Donations: 21
June Goal: 30
June Donations: 27
Even though we sur-
passed May’s goal, we lacked three
bags of meeting June’s goal. Let’s
get off to a good start for July and
meet our goal of 30 bags of flour—
regular or self-rising, any size.
Thank you for caring!
THANK YOU NOTES
Dear Church Family,
I’m so grateful for your continued love and support. It means more than
you know. The scholarship funds will help with expenses this fall, but your
kindness and prayers mean the most of all.
Love, Sarah Jones
Dear Church Family,
Thank you so much for the scholarship money! I really value all the help
I have received. It is such a comfort to know that I always have my church
family back home supporting me. Go Heels!
Lauren Revis
Dear First Baptist,
Thank you so much for the gifts! I will definitely be making use of the
Bible and devotional book, and especially appreciate the scholarship money
as it will greatly come in handy at UNC-Chapel Hill! Thank you for all you
have done for me.
Evan Revis
Dear Scholarship Committee,
Thank you very much for your recent gift of funds to assist with my col-
lege expenses. It was greatly appreciated!
Love in Christ, Charlotte Lattimore
LOST IN TRANSLATION:
THE ART OF TRANSLATING GOD’S WORD
Wednesdays, July 11-25, 6:00 PM in Room 205
Why do we have so many Bible translations? Why must ministers learn
Hebrew and Greek? Should I learn Biblical languages? Can I trust my
English translation of the Bible? What is Gender-Inclusive language?
Perhaps you’ve raised these questions. Perhaps in your Sunday School
lesson, the writer refers to a Hebrew or Greek word or phrase. Translation
from Hebrew to English, Greek to English and other languages is an art and
is not as straightforward as we might think. On Wednesday nights at 6 PM
during the month of July, we will have some conversations about these is-
sues, provide examples and give you opportunities to ask questions. Read-
ing the Bible is a privilege and a duty. These three weeks will help us be-
come better readers of scripture! Join us!

PASTOR’S COLUMN
Then the LORD said, "You are concerned about the bush, for which you
did not labor and which you did not grow; it came into being in a night
and perished in a night. And should I not be concerned about Nineveh, that
great city, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand
persons who do not know their right hand from their left, and also many
animals?" (Jonah 4:10-11, NRSV)
Summer is a wonderful time of year! I love it! After the ice cold winter we
endured, I’m loving this HOT weather! It’s the perfect time to get some
extra rest, take vacation, walk, run, bike, garden or whatever it is you like
to do outdoors. I love the long days, sitting on the porch at sunset, watch-
ing the lightning bugs, and enjoying our beautiful town.
I hope that you are making the most of your summer too! Yet, I wanted to
remind you that summer is also a time that we may grow spiritually! When
the pressure’s off a little, when we are energized and rejuvenated, summer
can be a time when God may reveal himself to us! That’s why I wanted to
remind you about church. Though we are not in the regular schedule of
activities, it’s still an important time for our church and an important time
for you. Youth and children have a plethora of activities to choose from!
Please keep an eye on them in the bulletin! Our Joy group has some excit-
ing outings planned. If you are a senior adult, we would love to have you
join us!
Our Wednesday Night Services of Prayer will resume on Wednesday, July
11. These are wonderful midweek opportunities to grow in your prayer life
by engaging prayers of the saints across the ages along with the prayer
needs of our congregations and beyond.
And, our morning worship times will be filled with opportunities for
growth. I will be preaching from the book of Jonah, beginning July 8. The
Sermon Series will touch every verse of Jonah, and we will see that it’s not
another fish story. Rather, it is filled with lessons of faith about God’s love
and God’s providence! If you cannot be here each Sunday, check out our
website for an audio recording of each message.
Please remember your own spiritual growth this summer, too! Take time
for yourself. You need it! But take time for God, with others and to make a
difference in our world!
Grace and Peace,
Tim

The Morning Prayer/Lord’s Prayer Beth Heffner
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil:
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen. *Responsive Reading Psalm 136 Tim Marsh
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. Give thanks to the God of gods.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever.
To him who alone does great wonders, who by his understanding made
the heavens, who spread out the earth upon the waters, who made the
great lights—the sun to govern the day, the moon and stars to govern the
night; His love endures forever.
To him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt and brought Israel out
from among them with a mighty hand and outstretched arm; His love en-
dures forever.
To him who divided the Red Sea and brought Israel through the midst of
it, but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea; His love endures
forever.
To him who led his people through the wilderness; His love endures for
ever.
To him who struck down great kings, and killed mighty kings and gave
their land as an inheritance, an inheritance to his servant Israel; His love
endures forever.
He remembered us in our low estate and freed us from our enemies. He
gives food to every creature. His love endures forever.
ALL: Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.
