*Hymn of Praise “On Pentecost They Gathered” Congregation (Tune: Lancashire - “The Day of Resurrection - #226)
On Pentecost they gathered quite early in the day, A band of Christ’s disciples to worship, sing and pray.
A mighty wind came blowing, filled all the swirling air, And tongues of fire a-glowing inspired each person there.
The people all around them were startled and amazed
To understand their language, as Christ the Lord they praised. What universal message, what great news was here?
That Christ, once dead, is risen to vanquish all our fear.
God pours the Holy Spirit on all those who believe,
On women, men and children who would God’s grace receive. That Spirit knows no limit, bestowing life and power.
The church, formed and reforming, responds in every hour.

*Hymn of Preparation “Rejoice the Year Upon Its Way” Congregation (From: The English Hymnal, revised 1998 by Marjorie Cochrane, Mark McKim
& Grace Wilson, tune: “Jesus Shall Reign”, #231)
Rejoice! The year upon its way Has brought again that blessed day,
When on the chosen of the Lord The Holy Spirit was outpoured.
On each the fire, descending, stood,
The multitude of language would, The day of days reunion find,
The Spirit’s coming here is signed.
To all in every tongue they spoke;
Amazement in the crowd awoke, Who mocked, as overcome with wine,
Those who were filled with power divine.
Today is Babel seen reversed, This hour is evil seen accursed!
The union which our pride did break, God hath restored, He doth remake.
Sermon “The Deeper Meaning of Pentecost” Mark McKim

WE RESPOND TO GOD
*Hymn of Response Congregation “Wind Who Makes All Winds That Blow”
(Tune: Aberystwyth, “Jesus Lover of My Soul”, #466)
WIND who makes all winds that blow
Gusts that bend the saplings low, Gales that heave the sea in waves,
Stirrings in the mind’s deep caves, Aim your breath with steady power
On Your church, this day, this hour. Raise, renew the life we’ve lost,
Spirit God of Pentecost.
FIRE who fuels all fires that burn,
Suns around which planets turn, Beacons marking reefs and shoals,
Shining truth to guide our souls. Come to us as once You came:
Burst in tongues of sacred flame! Light and Power, Might and Strength,
Fill Your church, its breadth and length.
HOLY SPIRIT, WIND and FLAME,
Move within our mortal frame. Make our hearts an altar pyre,
Kindle them with Your own fire. Breathe and blow upon that blaze
Till our lives, our deeds and ways Speak that tongue which every land
By Your grace shall understand.
Call to Prayer Joel Russell-MacLean Prayers of the People
The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give
us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and
the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

On behalf of myself,
(Vivian Johnson) and my son
Brian McCartney, we would like to thank
the congregation of First Baptist Church
for the prayers offered for us. We are
very grateful to all of you.
~Vivian Johnson & Brian McCartney~
The Flowers of Spring! This year we would like to try something a little different with the flower beds around the church. When you pick up your bedding plants and if you wish to, pick up a 6 or 12 pack of flowers for the church flower beds as well. George is most willing to plant them for us and to maintain them. It can be any type of flower you wish, but remember that the flower beds are not in full sun and we seem to have better luck with shade and drought plants. Petunias, snap dragons, geraniums, marigolds and alyssum have all done well as, I am sure would others. Plants can be brought to the church beginning the May long weekend, and left on the Erin’s desk in the main office.
The church kitchen would like to thank the following ladies for the thorough scrub and face-lift: Diane Zimmer, Marilyn Phillips, Rosemary Ward, Bonnie Austring-Winter and Carol Hepting. No corner was left unscrubbed, no drawer left unsorted, and I look amazing!
Alleyway Parking: Please do not park in the alleyway between the church
and Youth Centre. You can be ticketed for doing this.

CANADIAN BAPTIST MINISTRY (CBM) NEWS:
Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) is our national organization which engages in mission, relief and development work in Canada and around the world. CBM is governed by representatives of the four founding conventions/unions across Canada: The Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches, Union d'Églises Baptistes Francophones du Canada (Union of Francophone Baptist Churches of Canada), Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec (CBOQ) and Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (CBWC). CBM is the largest single grouping of Baptists in Canada. It includes almost half of Baptists in Canada, with just over 1000 congregations and 100,000 members.
CUBA: A group of students from Acadia Divinity College (Wolfville, Nova Scotia), and Crandall University (Moncton, New Brunswick) are involved in a two-week short-term mission trip to Cuba. They are visiting churches and ministries of CBM’s partner, the Fraternity of Baptist Churches in Cuba (FIBAC), in Matanzas and Havana. Please pray for the churches and people they will be meeting and working with, and for the team to be open to learning and receiving God’s direction in their short time there. Pray that the communities they encounter will be encouraged and strengthened through this visit.
PHILLIPINES: Please continue to pray for the Waddell family (Michael & Melanie along with their four children), soon to be in the Philippines as CBM Field Staff. They have a very full month ahead of them, as they continue to pray for Partners in Mission, who will support them in going forward in their calling to Marketplace Ministry. Their vision and calling to this exciting and vibrant ministry is truly inspiring. Please pray for those who will come alongside them, whether churches, individuals or businesses, who also have a passion for the same vision of global discipleship and integral mission
FORT MCMURRAY, ALBERTA: CBM is working with the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (CBWC) to provide immediate emergency relief & assistance on the ground in Fort McMurray, Alberta. As there is no CBM/CBWC church in Fort McMurray, CBM and CBWC are working with the Salvation Army, the local Fellowship Baptist Church in Fort McMurray, and others supporting evacuees.
