From the Pastor . . .

“A person plans his course, but the LORD directs his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9, NET)

“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.” (Proverbs 19:21, ESV)

As I sit in my office this sunny afternoon in August, school is in full swing and summer has come to a screeching halt for many…but not for me, yet. I am looking forward to one last summer hurrah. By the time you read this I should be on my way home from spending some time at the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota as well as attending Family Camp at Camp Lebanon over Labor Day weekend. Of course, every plan we make is subject to change at a moment’s notice by the Master Planner.

As we seek to live according to the Master’s design for us He will lead us according to His purposes and His will. To experience God’s will in our lives always requires us to place our will under the authority of His. “Lord, work through me” is a fruitless prayer if we do not submit our will to His will first. That includes whatever plans we are making in life, even vacation time.

In September we have a myriad of opportunities for you to participate in along with regular services and programs.

On September 8th the East Central Area of Churches annual meeting is at Prairie Baptist Church (Registration begins at 1:30pm, Worship at 2:00pm). Dr. Gregg Hemmen will be the keynote speaker. Come see what our East Central churches are doing.

On September 15th Jon Good, missionary to Hungary, will be with us in our morning worship service. Please come to hear how God is working in Hungary through the Goods. That afternoon at 4:00pm is our annual church picnic with games, fellowship and a time of worship together. Please come and enjoy a time of fun, fellowship, and praise.

On September 22nd we are all invited to an evening with Jon Good at Stilwell Baptist Church. Jon will be sharing at 5:00pm, followed by food and fellowship at 6:00pm. Come support the Goods!

On September 29th we will receive a special offering for the ministry of Elisey Pronin in Ukraine. He is needing a new computer for writing, teaching and preaching.

Please pray about your participation in these opportunities as well as our regular ministries. As you pray, allow God to direct your steps. Be blessed and be a blessing in Christ.

He is currently Professor of New Testament at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lombard, IL.

The Missionary speaker will be David Reed. Joyce and David serve as regional consultants alongside partner Baptist conventions in Iberoamerica and the Caribbean focusing on spiritual renewal, spiritual formation and vocational calling. Their goal is to draw people into a deeper experience with God through spiritual disciplines such as stillness, listening, prayer, creative worship, and spiritual companionship.

Please let the church know if you are planning to attend by Sept. 8. We will register with an “all-church” registration saving you the registration fee but we need to know who is going to include you as a participant. You will still need to submit an individual registration form (mark the box that your registration is paid by the “All church registration”) to select meals and workshops.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY NEWS & EVENTS YOUTH NEWS & EVENTS

Sarah Bergman Children’s Ministry Coordinator

Rev. Joshua Daniels Youth Pastor

First Baptist Christian Preschool Classes have begun at the preschool and Crystal is requesting snack donations. She requests Popcorn, Ritz Crackers,

Rectangle Crackers, Square Crackers, Triangle Crackers (I see a pattern here!), Pretzels, any type of cereal, any type of cookies and three boxes of frozen waffles. Misc. items requested: Dish cloths and clear packing tape.

Thank you!

The fall semester is in full swing and so are we. I am proud to announce that our high school group is as strong as it has been since I’ve been here. Our students are actively wrestling with how to find God’s will for their lives in a way that is exciting for me to see.

Among the ranks of our high school students are a few of the finest musicians I have ever had the joy of knowing and the newest members of the Paola High School marching band. I would highly encourage everyone to show up and show out for them during halftime at the first home football game of the season on September 6. If you’re looking for someone to sit with, I should be easy to find, I’ll be the really loud man in black and gold.

If you’re as excited as I am about the start of the football season, join me this season in a church-wide game of College Pick’em on ESPN. Winner at the end of the season gets eternal bragging rights. To join go to: http://fantasy.espn.com/college-football-pickem/2019/en/group?groupID=94390.

As we enter the new school year, we are looking for greater parent involvement, so if you’re interested in leading some great young people for special events or if you want to be considered for a more regular place of service in the youth ministry please contact me at [email protected].

Thank You, Joshua Daniels

Kids for Christ Bible Club will be starting on Sept 11 from 6:00-7:30. This year we’ll be trying out a new large group/small group format, but keeping all the elements kids love: exciting Bible stories, Bible memory stamps, bring a friend nights, games, crafts, music & skits! It’s all free—invite your friends. Family dinners will be at 5:30 in the fellowship hall, and all are invited to come enjoy some great food & fellowship. Register NOW on-line to help us plan!

Mark your calendar--family game night is planned for Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. Bring munchies and enjoy the fun—need not have kids to come.

A Halloween Outreach event is planned for Oct. 31 on the veranda. Come and go from 6:00-8:00 p.m. for small bites of the gospel with your candy! Bring your friends! Help is needed to run the stations, if you’re available, please give me a call.

Thank you to all who helped with the Free Garage Sale. It was a great year, with lots of donations, and tons of people who came and shopped and were blessed with the love of God and clothing for their families.

Together in Christ,

Sarah
