Reality Check This presentation will not be like any

fire safety training you have received. IT IS REALITY BASED! The Goal is to have you understand fire behavior and how you can save others and yourself. There will be some “STRONG” statements made, not meant to cause fear, but rather to appropriately prepare you and your family.

Mobilization Issues If a “Loved One” wishes to live at

home there are several things you can do to assist in Evacuation and/or Rescue.

Remodel a first floor room to make an appropriate living space.

Locate the room as close to an exit as possible.

Identify the exit route. Build a ramp…even for a few stairs.

Response Time Standard 4-6 Minutes

Rule 4 IF YOU ARE A CARE GIVER AND

CANNOT ASSIST IN THE RESCUE . SAVE YOUR OWN LIFE!

Rule 6 VERY OFTEN FN RESIDENTS AND

CHILDREN GET CONFUSED DURING FIRE AND SMOKE AND SEEK THE SAFETY OF A BEDROOM ON THE SECOND FLOOR. NEVER GO UP!

Rule 7 ONCE YOU ESCAPE NEVER EVER

GO BACK IN THE HOUSE. THOSE WHO DO DIE!

Rule 8 SELECT AND IDENTIFY SAFE

ROOMS WHERE FF’S CAN EFFECT A QUICK RESCUE IF YOU ARE TRAPPED!

BLOCKED STAY ON THE PHONE AND TRY TO IDENTIFY 911 YOUR EXACT LOCATION.

Rule 16 PREDESIGNATE A REUNIFICATION

LOCATION FOR ANY EMERGENCY. INVOLVE NEIGHBORS IN THE

PLANNING!

Rule 17 IF A PERSON CATCHES FIRE YOU

MUST MAKE A QUICK EFFORT TO EXTINGUISH!

Use Copious amounts of water. Hose, Buckets, etc

Stop, drop and roll Smother with a wool or flame

retardant blanket Use an ABC extinguisher!

Is there such a thing as “Spontaneous Human

Combustion”? In 31 years, I have only suspected it

once, but as an arson investigator it turned out to be a combination of smoking and alcohol consumption.
