FIRE BUKER DESIGN SUBMISSION This bunker is styled in a similar fashion to the owner’s house. It uses asymmetrical composition and clean lines. The bunkers internal design is more about practicality rather then comfort as the time it would be used wouldn’t be for extended periods rather short burst with the primary function being success of survival. The bunker resides on a hill side and is subterranean, the main reason for this is protection from heat as the heat from a passing fire will only penetrate the earth so far. The entrance is angular with a right angle approach to the door, this is to increase airflow and eliminate possible asphyxiation of all inside as the fire front passes. The internal layout is simple but divided; it is multi layered and allows for open space with recessed storage areas. The open lattice structure that sits over the bunker allows for a downdraft of air and is of similar design to that of noise and heat barriers at airport. This system allows for the updraft of heat and flame whilst the internal area that covers the entrance to the bunker is open for a downdraft of air. The external materiality is heat treated concrete, perfect for withstanding intense heat for extended periods of time. James Millar S3082467
