INTRODUCTION
This project is about modular switch market survey report. In this project I collected 100 samples from different area of Jaipur market that area is Aatish Market, New Aatish Market, Sadar Bazar, Chandpole, Nehru Bazar, Chameli Market, Jhotwara, Etc.
Finolex launch its new product Finoswitch. Finoswitch is the modular switches which is used for electrical purpose. To collect the sample from different area of Jaipur market I prepare questioner related to modular switch. In this questionnaire, I put some question related to modular switch market scheme, related customer awareness about modular switch of Finolex Company, best promotional scheme given by different company. I also asked customer about there interest to deal with finolex for Finoswitch product.
Not only customer show there interest during market survey even customer give there good feedback about finoswitch. Customer suggest for TV Advertising most of the time. Customer want marketing and better service support from Finolex Company. They want good quality, margin with cheep rate.
In this modular switch market survey report I note customer feedback and according to there feedback I prepare this project report. But the important reason to collect this sample from customer during market survey is that to analysis of current positioning of finoswitch product in the market. To understand competitor market policy there strategy about promotion, scheme and offer for the customer. By the help of this survey it is clear that due to new building construction, government infrastructure policy there is a huge demand of modular switch in the market. But the question is about to capture the maximum portion of modular switch in the market. And it is possible to give better offer to customer good attractive scheme and to get the regular interaction with customer by executive visit.

In July 1945, two young brothers P.P Chhabria and K.P Chhabria came to Pune from Karachi in search of a livelihood and within six months set up a small shop selling electrical cables. The retail business became quite successful. A sizeable order in the mid 1950's from the Defense Department for wire harnesses for trucks and tanks bolstered their confidence and they decided to manufacture Cables, themselves.
Starting as a small-scale industrial unit in 1957, they manufactured PVC insulated cables for the automobile industry. Finolex brand was born from "Fine" & "Flexibles" and "O" with an electric arc across it - signifying the electrical cable business the company was in. Their relentless search for growth and doughty perseverance saw them through some difficult times and in 1972 the enterprise turned into a limited company.
Since then, there has been no looking back and following a public offering in July 1983, Finolex Cables Limited embarked on a continuous process of expansion and modernization which enabled it to become the most diversified largest cable manufacturer in the country.
Their relentless quest for growth saw the brothers establishing Finolex Industries Limited in 1981. The company sought to manufacture Rigid PVC Pipes and Fittings at Pune, which find large-scale application in the agriculture sector. In a shrewd move towards backwards integration, the company has set up a PVC resin manufacturing facility at Ratnagiri on the west coast of India.
The early nineties saw the Finolex Group expanding into new business domains to manufacture Optic Fiber Cables and Copper Rods. Today the Group turnover exceeds Rs.20 Billion (about US $ 450 million)FCL and FIL are the two group companies whose equity shares are listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange. Global Depository Receipts of FCL are also listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange. Professionally managed, with continuous updating of technology and strict quality controls, Finolex strives for maximum customer satisfaction. Over the years, it has attained a significant position on the industrial map of India.

Finolex Cables Ltd, the flagship company of the Finolex Group was established in 1956 in Pune. Today, it is India's largest and leading manufacturer of electrical and telecommunication cables with a turnover in excess of Rs. 6275 million (about US $ 134 million).
The company started its operation with the manufacture of PVC insulated electrical cables for the automobile industry. Flameguard - FRLS Cables
Application
This is a premium product of electrical wires from Finolex. These cables are ideal for wiring in residential and commercial complexes, high-rise buildings, hotels, hospitals, schools, colleges etc where density of people is high. During a fire these cables not only emit less smoke and toxic hydrochloric acid gas but also retard the spread of fire enabling those trapped inside to escape safely.

Manufactured from bright annealed 99.97% pure bare copper conductors these cables have low conductor resistance resulting in power saving. These wires are insulated with a special grade PVC compound formulated and manufactured in-house. The insulation is far superior in terms of critical oxygen and temperature index as also in light transmission and acid gas generation.
PVC Single Core Flexible Cables
Application
These single core flexible cables are used for wiring in control panels, machines and various electrical installations in small, medium and large industries.

cables have low conductor resistance. These wires are insulated with a special grade PVC compound formulated and manufactured in-house which is impervious to water, oil, grease, acids, etc. and are tough to protect from any mechanical abuses.
Auto & Battery Cables
Application
These cables are used as original equipment for wiring in automobiles and in the auto harnesses by harness manufacturers. Finolex also manufactures the Battery cable harnesses with lugs soldered / crimped for ready use by automobile manufacturers. These battery cables also find their application in telecommunications, power, and computer back up, wind energy farms etc.

PVC Winding Wires
PVC insulated Winding Wires for Submersible Pump Motors Application PVC insulated winding wires are used as original equipment for winding of submersible pump motors. They are also used for rewinding of these motors. The special purpose PVC insulation enables these wires to operate under water over long periods. The minimum insulation thickness is achieved through precision extrusion process so that insertion in stator slots is smooth and easy. Finolex has

also developed higher sizes with multi strand copper conductors for higher HP Pump motors for specialized applications such as de-watering, mining and naval pumps.
Features
The conductor is solid/stranded and is manufactured from bright-annealed 99.97% pure bare copper which offers low conductor resistance. These wires are insulated with a special tough grade PVC compound formulated and manufactured in-house which is impervious to water, oil, grease, acids etc. These wires are extruded on state of the art machines for concentric insulation. Each coil is put through quality checks and water immersion test for trouble free marathon performance. These wires conform to IS 8783 and have lower overall diameter.
Thin Wall Polymer Insulated Winding Wires for Submersible Pump Motors Application These winding wires have very thin insulation thickness which makes them useful in smaller submersible pumps such as V4 pumps. The old pumps are to be rewound the stator slots get smaller and they require thinner winding wires.
Features Made from bright-annealed 99.97% pure bare copper conductors these wires have low conductor resistance and hence high flux capacity. The thin insulation thickness is achieved through precision extrusion of specially developed and manufactured polymeric compound. Each coil is put through quality checks and water immersion test for trouble free marathon performance.
3 Core Flat Cables
Application
The PVC insulated and sheathed 3 core flat cables are used for giving electrical connection to the submersible pump motors. These are manufactured keeping in mind the severe, tough and difficult conditions in which they have to operate. The slot available in the tube well being narrow the shape of the cables has to be suited

for such an application. These cables conform to and are marked IS 694: 1990 up to 4.0 sq. mm. The size above 4.0 sq.mm. Cables generally conform to IS 694: 1990.
Features Manufactured from bright-annealed 99.97% pure bare copper conductors these cables have low conductor resistance. The inner cores are insulated with a special grade PVC compound formulated and manufactured in-house. The tough robust outer PVC jacket protects it from the oils, greases, various chemicals and abrasions, thereby giving long life and electrical safety.
LT PVC/XLPE Power & Control Cables
Power Cables Application The Power Cables are used under ground as well as over head transmission of power in power plants, industries, projects and all other electrical installations. Different combinations such as Aluminum, Copper conductors, round solid conductor, stranded conductors, sector shaped conductors, taped inner sheath, extruded inner sheath, Round steel and aluminum wire / Flat galvanized steel strip Armored/ unarmored, single /double outer sheathed etc are available. Types of insulation include PVC, HR PVC, and XLPE. The inner & outer sheaths can be PVC, HR PVC, FRLS, HR-FRLS or FR depending upon the application and requirement of customers.
Features Finolex manufactures different types with combinations of specifications as mentioned above as per IS 1554 Part I for cables upto 1100V and IS 1554 Part II for 3300V.Co-axial Cables
Application
These cables are used for transmission of Video and Audio signals and are used in CATV Industry. The number of CATV channels has gone up to over 100 channels. These cables are ideal for such multi channel applications. The central conductor is made of solid copper, which makes it ideal for power pass application.

Features Central conductor is made of 99.97 % pure solid copper manufactured by our group company. It is insulated with Nitrogen gas injected physical foam dielectric manufactured from imported polyethylene, which enhances the foaming upto 70%, which leads to lower and uniform attenuation. This also ensures that the insulation is free from impurities and the foam cell structure is uniform across entire length. The secondary conductor is made of specially designed poly-aluminum tape bonded with sufficient overlap on dielectric. The second shield is of imported aluminum alloy wire braiding with high tensile strength and has more than 60% coverage suitably flooded with jelly so that the weather effect on conductors is negligible. The outer jacket that has specially formulated PVC manufactured in-house is of UV resistant nature, for robust performance and long life. Each coil/ bobbin is tested on computerized Test equipment for Attenuation, Impedance and SRL upto 1GHz.
The special features make these cables ideal for power pass application with notch free low attenuation values over wide band of frequencies and low loss of signal quality.
CATV (Trunk Coaxial Cables)
Application
Co-axial Trunk cables are used generally to interconnect head-ends of different cable TV operators. These cables are used for transmission of cable / TV signals. The number of channels has gone up to over 100 channels. These cables are ideal for such multi channel applications. The central conductor is made of Copper Clad

Aluminum (CCA) and is specially treated for making it bright. Smooth and circular before extrusion on-line since the high frequency signals travel on the conductor surface. This also makes the cable lightweight.
Features The cable is insulated with Nitrogen gas injected physical foam dielectric manufactured from imported polyethylene, which enhances the foaming upto 80%, which leads to lower attenuation. This also ensures that the insulation is free from impurities and the foam cell structure is uniform across entire length. The secondary conductor is made of a robust aluminum alloy tube providing 100% shielding enhancing the performance and distortion-free transmission of signals. The outer jacket is of UV resistant PVC compound for robust performance and long life. Each coil/ bobbin is tested on computerized Test equipment for Attenuation, Impedance and SRL upto 1GHz.
The special features make these cables ideal for power pass application with notch free low attenuation values over wide band of frequencies and low loss of signal quality.
Jelly Filled Telephone Cables
Effective communication plays a vital role in the economic growth of any country. Keeping this in mind, Finolex is the pioneer company in India to enter the Telecommunication field by manufacturing polyethylene insulated Jelly Filled Telephone Cables (PIJF). Over the years, Finolex has developed the facilities to manufacture and test Jelly Filled Telephone Cables conforming to international

specifications and standards of the U.S. (Bell and REA), Singapore and many more countries.
Each conductor consists of a solid bare round wire of annealed high conductivity copper, smoothly drawn with uniform diameter and resistance. It is insulated with either solid medium/high density polyethylene or Foam Skin polyethylene insulation. The conductor is insulated uniformly in various colors with extremely tight tolerances to help the cable meet the electrical and transmission requirements of specification.Individual insulated conductors are twisted together with a uniform lay to form a pair. The length of the lay of each pair is different from that of the adjacent pair to enable the cable to meet the capacitance unbalance, attenuation and cross talk requirements of the specifications. The pairs have specific color combination for easy identification.
The twisted pairs are stranded in a single unit of 10, 20 and 25 pairs and wrapped helical with an identification color binder. For higher pairage cable, a number of units are stranded together to form a super unit. A colored identification binder is wrapped around the super units for easy identification.These units or super units are then laid up to form the core of the cable. During this operation a water-resistant filling compound is introduced to fully fill the interstices of the laid up core. This filling compound acts as a dielectric between the layers and the moisture barrier. The Jelly Filled laid up Cable is then covered with a layer of non-hygroscope polyester tape to pack the jelly. This also acts as a mechanical protection to the cable core, and acts as a dielectric.
An aluminum tape coated on both sides with polyethylene is applied longitudinally over the core wrap with overlap. These help in preventing electrical interference induced by other Power Cables lay in parallel. It also acts as a moisture barrier. A tight-fitting sheath of black virgin polyethylene is then extruded over the Aluminum Polylaminated Screen, which offers protection to the cable. A double polyethylene tape is applied helical over the inner sheath with a suitable overlap. This acts as bedding for the steel tape. The cable is then helical armored with double galvanized steel tapes with a suitable overlap. This offers mechanical protection to the cable. A tight-fitting jacket of specially formulated black virgin polyethylene is extruded over the armored cable. This acts as a mechanical protection and protection against ultra-violet rays.The Company's name, cable size, year of manufacture and the telephone handset emblem is put on the outer jacket for identification. There is also a number marking printed on the cable progressing sequentially at every one-meter.
Each cable drum is tested on a computer-controlled automatic testing bridge, for the electrical and transmission parameters, before the cable is offered to the customer.

Switchboard Cables
Applications
Finolex switch board cables are best suited for all telephone switch board applications in high rise buildings, offices, factories, hotels, hospitals, residential complexes etc. They generally conform to the ITD specifications S/WS 113C and Finolex specifications and are ideally designed to minimize cross talk.
Features
The conductor is made of electrolytic grade annealed bare solid copper conductor of 0.5 mm diameter and is insulated with a special grade polyethylene compound on the latest state-of-the-art extruders. The cores are twisted together with a uniform lay on a special purpose imported machine, according to the color code to form pairs. The pairs are bunched together in such a manner so as to minimize cross talk.
The cable is then jacketed with a specially formulated PVC compound with fire retarding properties. A nylon rip cord provides an effective means of slitting the jacket without damaging the insulation. These are ideal because of low attenuation and low cross talk.

An electrical switch is meant for controlling the flow of power. The Company manufactures electrical cables which act as a conduit for transmitting power. The electrical cables are made of wires which are terminated at and connected to an electrical switch. Thus the flow of power is controlled through an electrical switch. Therefore, the business of electrical switches is complementary to the electrical cable business of the Company.

The Company has developed and introduced two ranges of electrical switches; premium range for the niche market and classic range for the mass market. Characterized by the superior quality of polycarbonate and silver coated contacts and terminals used in the making of the most modern switches, 'Finoswitch' is safe, durable and is tested to last over 60,000 clicks. TheSwitches are marked with a unique fluorescent strip that glows in the dark and acts as a guide. Electrical switches were launched in June 2006. They have been well received by the market.
Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) Project
Expanding its reach to providing more products in electrical solutions, the Company launched 'Finoglow', its brand of CFLs, during August 2006. Finoglow is an energy saving lamp. It can save upto 80% energy as against an incandescent lamp. Available in retrofit and no retrofit range, CFLs are available in different colours, wattage and sizes. Finoglow CFLs have a high colour rendering index which gives true colour lighting. The market response to CFLs has been positive.
The government is considering banning use of GLS (incandescent) lamps to help in reducing global warming. CFLs will substitute for GLS lamps. Considering the immense growth potential, the Company is planning for substantial expansion of manufacturing capacity for CFLs.
EXPORTS
The Company has its presence in the international market for some time now. The Company has been exporting electrical cables, LAN cables, optic fiber cables and a variety of customized cables. During the year under review, the Company started exporting communication cables to its customers in the developed nations. FOB value of the exports for the year was Rs. 672.532 million verses Rs.368.402million for the previous year. With the best technology products in its armory, the Company is putting a greater thrust on exports.

FINANCE
In order to meet a part of the funds requirement for the Projects, the Company contracted an external commercial borrowing (ECB) in Japanese Yen equivalent to USD 30 million. Of this, the Company took disbursement of USD 20 million equivalent of Japanese Yen loan before 31st March, 2007. The balance amount has been drawn in the month of April 2007. The Company has hedged its exposures toJapanese Yen prudently and has effectively converted the Yen loan into a USD loan. The ECB was raised at competitive rates and is expected to save good amount of interest cost for the Company, especially since the local interest rates are showing hardening trends. The ECBwas contracted for a period of five years.
Our Company has been accorded P1+ rating, the highest rating for a Rs. 2 billion short term debt program and AA+/stable rating for a Rs. 500 million for a long term non-convertible debenture program by CRISIL. The Company has already issued non-convertible debentures and utilized the long term rating. The short term rating is being used by the Company for judicious cash flow management. For the year under review, the Company did well on cash flow management by striking a balance between liquidity and borrowing, while timely meeting the requirement of funds for the Projects and business expansion. Also, the Company had been able to limit the interest cost in spite of rising interest rates.

What percent of executive visit in the market by company?
To prepare pie chart and bar graph I collect 100 data from electrical shop. If suppose the question is in YES or NO form then I make Pie chart and if question in form of 5 to 6 option then I make bar graph. Because in the case of pie chart we can calculate question in terms of percent also but in the case of bar graph percent spared on 5 to 6 question base.
Suppose 64 shopkeepers said that there is regular executive visit by company executives so its mean remaining 36 is that number of percent which show there is no regular executive visit by company executives. Now in this case we can make pie chart to understand perfectly what is the current situation of executive visit in the market by company executives?
So by this same way I use this methodology to make this modular switch market survey project report. Customer Suggestion for Advertising to Increase Sale of Finoswitch.
During market survey of modular switches customer give there different opinions for finoswitch advertising. But most of the customer suggested that finolex should do TV Advertising to increase the sale of finoswitch in the market. After TV advertising customer suggest for Hording Advertising and Road Show.
According to distributor and retailer they said that advertising is the best way to promote new product and not only this even consumer also adopt these product very easily. They said that when consumer see one product several time by different advertising then consumer mind automatically make the product as a brand and they start demanding for that product. According to distributor and retailers advertising play very important role to make product as a brand name. By advertising once consumer aware with new product then they suggest other consumers also to purchase that same product.

Executive Visits for Modular switch in the Market.
By the help of customer feedback I find that there is only 14% customer who said that finolex company executives visited there shop as a regular basis. And 86% customer said that there is no executive visit by the finolex company in the shop. It is clearly show that why customer (distributor, dealer, retailer, wholesaler and shopkeeper) is not aware with finoswitch. Finolex have to make there marketing very strong. Because still there is no awareness in the market of finoswitch customer is not give there interest to purchase finoswitch.

This pie chart shows that 56 percent customer heard the name of finoswitch modular switch. But they heard this product name from newspaper and there distributor. Most of retailer has not sample of finoswitch and even catalog to get the proper information about this product.
During survey one customer said that in the market there are very few retailers and distributor aware with finoswitch, only they heard this product name even they have not proper information related to this product. There is no executive visit in there shop by company executives.
44 percent customer is who never heard finoswitch name. Because of poor marketing of finoswitch 44 percent customer is not aware with this product. No advertising from finolex makes the blank information about this product in the market. Customer suggestion is that company should do TV Advertising to establish this product in the market.

During survey there is 40 distributor and retailer are in the market who sale finolex product like wire, cable, pipes, CFL and switch. The highest selling brand by retailer and distributor is wire. By the help of this graph we can say that wire is the highest selling product of Finolex Company compare to other products in the market. Even Finoswitch is also selling by some retailer and distributor in the market. But the number of shopkeeper who is selling switch of Finolex Company is very few because customer is not aware with this product completely.
Finolex dealer who is selling other product except finoswitch, they have no sample of finoswitch. They request to the finolex executives several times (who visit there shop) for modular switch sample and its catalog but didn’t get sample and catalog.
If we see this histogram graph then we can say that company wire dealer and retailers number are very high and we can easily sell finolex new product like CFL and Finoswitch in the market by giving them better offers and scheme. Those customer who take BSES deal, they are ready to sell CFL from there shops because of great response by consumer.

But this popularity comes through its products wire, pipes and cable. If we talking about CFL and modular switch of Finolex Company then this company has to be compete its other competitor like Anchor (Roma), Havells, Northwest, Simence, and M. K. who has already capture very good portion of modular switch in the market.
Overall we can see that during market survey of modular switch, customer give good feedback about finolex brand but to get this same feedback for finoswitch product, company should makes better relationship with there distributor and retailers. Not only company should make better relation with there customer even company should give good offer and scheme to there distributor and retailers.
But there is some customer who gives finolex poor rating also, because of bad relationship with them and not give good feedback by the company staff, customer are very upset.

During market survey I find that 40 percent customer are dealing with Finolex Company different products. The highest selling product by the distributor and retailer is wire. Because of success of wire in the market, distributor and retailer turn to other product of the company like pipes and cable but now finolex launch two more product i.e. CFL and modular switch. I find that some customer is selling modular switch of finolex but they are very few compare then wire seller.
Because of no marketing of finoswitch product till now customer is not aware with this product. Still there is 60 percent customer is in the market who did not deal with finolex. Company should encourage there distributor and retailer to come out and sale there finoswitch product but for this company has to be give proper information about finoswitch. It is very necessary for the company to understand there competitor policy because of there policy finolex can plan there marketing strategy and capture rest 60 percent customer in the market.

Customer is interested to sale that product of modular switch which is giving them maximum profit. Some companies’ product like anchor, northwest, havells are providing good offer to dealers, distributor and also retailer. But during survey I find that Anchor (Roma) which is the brand of Anchor electrical & electronic Ltd. is giving very heavy discount to there customer. This discount is (48-55%) on MRP list. Not only this, company is providing many more offer to there customer like Tour-Trip to Hong-Kong, Singapore, Thailand. Anchor is also providing some scheme to there retailer. These schemes are, when retailer sale 1.25 lakh goods then anchor company is giving them Silver coin free. If they sale 3 lakh goods, retailer get 10gm golden coin free. And if retailer sale more than 5 lakh goods then anchor company is giving AC to them (According to Mr. R. N. Aggarwal).
If we talking about complaints then there is so many thing which should be implement on finoswitch product. According to one retailer there is colour difference on finoswitch modular switches. Its button colour is light white compare to its plate. The button and plate colour did not give same colour comparison. Not only this, even there is some complaints about its fitting problem with other company plates also. Some shopkeeper said that if consumer purchase only finolex switch then its fitting did not match with other company plates which they already adhesive on there walls.
Some distributer or retailer is not agreeing with its margin rate or given discount on MRP list. Because Anchor is providing very good margin and discount rate on switches. Not only is this even Anchor Company giving tour-trip facility to its retailer or distributor but they decided some sale target for it.

Even during market survey of modular switch I find that legrand (local modular switch company) is more sellable product compare then finoswitch. During survey it’s very clear that Anchor (Roma) is the highest selling product (Anchor Company modular switch) in the market. I find anchor (roma) almost every shop in the market. Dealer and distributor are also preferred to sell this product. But the question is that how this product makes its demand very fast in the market? And the answer is that anchor has very good customer relationship in market. When distributor and retailer find some problem with related there product company take action to solve there problem as soon as possible. There is timely executive visit by anchor company employee in the market. Distributor are very helpful and cooperative for there retailer. Anchor is also giving there retailer and distributor credit facility for 5 to 8 days period.

During market survey, retailers want at least 55% margin on finoswitch. Retailer is selling Anchor (Roma) brand single switch is Rs.27 and Anchor company is giving there retailer 52% discount on MRP list. Finoswitch price is higher then anchor (roma) price. Even finoswitch still not make its brand name in the market. Customer takes finolex as a very good brand but in wire, pipes and cable not in modular switch.
According to dealers in the market, they said that consumer is not ready to adjust themselves with finoswitch in terms of price. Consumer is not aware with this brand and according to retailer and distributor Anchor (roma) is the highest purchasing brand by the consumer most of the time. After Anchor the second highest purchasing brand by the consumer is Northwest, Havells and Crabtree.
Not only branded products even local brand like legrand, coin, cona and param company modular switch also capture the very good portion of market. Main thing is that these local brand is giving very good margin of there distributor and retailer and providing tour-trip facility to there customer. Other branded product of modular switch is giving very good promotional scheme to there retailers and not only for retailers there electrician who is working in the electrical shop.
This policy make these brand very popular in the market and make there customer towards attractive about these company modular switch. During market survey it is clear that modular switches demand is very high that’s why lots of company jump in this competition and the great this is that the entire brand is surviving very well in the market. To perform very well, company need to give better services to there distributor and retailer and give them very good scheme related profit.
If we talking about local brand switches then it will be available in the market by price of Rs.5, 14 and 18. Goldenline is a local brand and its switch price for retailer is Rs.5 and you will find another company switch name is Amron is Rs.14. So this thing is show that consumer is ready to purchase this local brand in cheep rate.

If company is good in service and problem solving and give better solution to there customer then it makes a value and goodwill of company. Anchor did this same thing for there distributer and retailer not only this when retailer find problem with switch anchor quickly replace there switch and provide new switch. This concept makes anchor company favorite for distributor and retailer and helps to capture very good market portion of modular switch.
If we talking about the visits of shop for modular switch by the company executives then we will find that finolex executives visits for finoswitch product to there distributor and retailer is 14 percent only and rest 84 percent distributor and retailer said that there is not executive visit for modular switch by finolex company in there shop.
During survey, customer said that other branded company like Northwest, Havells and Crabtree, executive visit on there shop as a regular basis and time to time they give the information about there product and scheme. But if talking about finoswitch product information and scheme, nobody knows about it. Very few customers are aware with finoswitch product. Mr. Pawan Gupta is complaining about the scheme. He said that finoswitch is the only one product in the market who has no scheme for retailer even Anchor is giving scheme for there distributor or for there retailer also (but did not specified scheme).
