It is where Finlands fate will be decided. General A. F. AiroFinlands defences on the Karelian Isthmus break and Soviet troops advance with an overwhelm-ing advantage in manpower and military equipment. The Finns have been beaten. Guerilla tacticsin the forests are no longer enough, and some other solution must be found to contain the un-precedented offensive.

Tali Ihantala 1944 recounts the events of the largest battle in the history of Scandinaviathrough five short stories. The defensive victory was a miracle. How was it ever achieved?

The film tel ls about the failed a ttempts of the summer of 1944 to achieve the impossible, stop-ping a greatly superior enemy and the final efforts to avert a defeat that seemed certain. This epicfilm deals w ith the miracle of Ihantala through the perspectives of ordinary people. Soldiers hadto exhibit an unbelievable capacity to endure the inhumane harshness and brutal ity of war. But asoldier had a job to do. That is what this fi lm deals with: men at work.

In the autumn of his life, Thomas lives a simple and isolated life in his below-street-level apart-ment accompanied by a radio, a chess board and a photo of his wife. He does not venture outside

very often, and when he does, the outside world reminds him of his old age, lonel iness and hispast which he would not like to remember. His life feels like a never-ending story, and to make it

Tuomari Nurmio becomes interested in Finnish tango. Modern Finnish tango puzzles him; it hasno kick, no vigor. He begins his research on how tango came to Finland and what affected the

development of Finnish tango.Tuomari forms an orchestra, and together they start arranging his old songs into tangos and

rearranging some evergreen tangos. The orchestra adopts the name Kongontien orkesteri, records the album Tangomanifesti

and performs to a live audience.Archive material, and footage of Tuomaris research and the arranging and recording of the

music are intercut using the associat ion technique. The film follows Tuomari Nurmio and Kongontien orkesteri during the making of the a lbum,

as well as Tuomaris research of the arriva l of tango and its history in Fin land. The film is both aunique documentary about making an a lbum in todays Finland and a profound look by old-tim-ers of the rock generation at a musical genre that was previously unfamil iar to them.

Punksters & Youngstersconveys the amazing vital ity of punk music and punkers. The do it your-self ethic draws young people to punk the same way it did when this new music style arrived

in Finland. Pelle Miljoona, the great dinosaur of Finnish punk, is still going strong, and bandmembers celebrate their 50th birthdays on the tour bus. They have released a new album and areadored by old and new fans alike. Akupunktio is punk. Just like the generation of thir ty years ago,the kids today are drawn to shout their message to the world. But the makers of punk music alsohave other goals in their lives. Punks power is wide-reaching.

Why are some of the worlds biggest international companies translat ing an absurd foreign pro-paganda book into their own languages? Why are they trying to evade any serious discussion

about their motives, and about the grim human rights problems and free speech violations in theCentral Asian country of Turkmenistan?

Shadow of the Holy Bookinvestigates the morality of international companies and the dictator-ship of oil-and-gas-rich Turkmenistan. These companies help give the dictatorship the propa-ganda support that it needs to survive. Turkmenistans dictator, Saparmurat Niyazov, has writtena ludicrous book: the Ruhnama, the Book of Soul, a key tool in the governments subjugation ofhuman rights and free speech. Yet many international companies give their clandestine supportto the Ruhnama and help suppress the countrys voices of opposition and dissidence in return

    for multimillion-dollar business deals.

Sonic Mirroris a surprising and emotional dive into the world of rhythm an extraordinary tripto discover the magic relationship between Life and Rhythm. Drum legend Billy Cobham takes

us from the bandstands of the Western world to the primal music of African origin with kids in aBrazilian community and on to the completely secluded world of musical experiences of autists. These different worlds are yet connected through music in a mystical and secret way. The relationbetween the collective and the individual consciousness becomes obvious when, in a fantastic finalmoment, symbiosis is achieved. Music is emotion. Music is communication. Music is identity. Musicbecomes a true universal language to express hope, love, ambition and joy. Sonic Mirroris a filmfull of vibrancy and compassion, authentic and hypnotic from the first to the very last moment.
