4 Pint-sized Parables™ (1 Corinthians 9:24, NIV) — Finish Line
The boy scouts were hammering their birdhouses together when FB
noticed the gym door swung open. He watched as his scout leader
walked in carrying a large shopping bag. Before coming to the meeting,
Mr. Toby stopped by The Hobby Shop and made a special purchase.

FB laughed as Mr. Toby began to race across the gym
floor screaming, “I got it! I got it! And, I got the last one!”
he roared to the pack. The scout leader’s heels came to
a halt at their table. He place in front of them what every
scout wanted to see—the new Speed Racer X.

Excitement echoed around the gym as seven screaming scouts
demanded a peek. FB was first in line. His eyes scanned over the box
and stopped at the big sticker. “Whoa!” he shouted to Mr. Toby. “This is
the fastest race car in the PineCar catalog!” he read.

FB smiled. He imagined himself winning the Pinewood Derby race
with the fastest race car. But his smile became a frown when he re-
membered Victory. Victory was Father Bear’s winning race car. It was
old and broken, but FB believed that with hard work it could win again.
So he decided to repair Victory. Father Bear was so proud of him.

FB did not want to disappoint Father Bear. But he really wanted to
win his race. And he thought if he had the fastest race car, he would.
But how could he get a Speed Racer X? He remembered that he was
holding the last one. Before he could think of an answer, FB heard an
angry scout yell in his ear, “Yo! Dude! Hurry up!”

It was Mookey. “It’s almost time to go home, Dude!” he yelled again.
FB slowly passed his new hope along. Mookey snatched the box and
took a closer look. “Yes!” he shouted. “Dudes, this is the exact race car my
dad got me!” Mookey teased the scouts. “Dudes! There’s no way I can
lose the race with the fastest race car!” he laughed.

Mookey did not know it, but Mr. Toby was about to announce
a surprise. The scout leader grabbed his box and stood beside FB.
“I have a surprise!” he announced. The scouts gathered around as
Mr. Toby gave FB his special purchase. “Here you go, Scout,” he said,
“This is for earning your helping badge at the nursing home.”

Excitement raced in FB’s heart. He was now the proud owner of
the fastest race car. His question was answered. FB hugged Mr. Toby
and raced to the table. He pulled up a green chair. When he sat
down to rip open his new hope, Pookey Pig sat beside him.

“Man, you’re the luckiest scout ever,” Pookey told him. FB smiled
at Pookey and pulled out his new hope. Pookey scooted his chair closer
and said, “Man, I wish I had a Speed Racer X.” Pookey grabbed the
empty box and peeked inside. He shared, “My dad got laid off so we
can’t buy one right now. But I’m hoping anyway,” he told FB.
