DESCRIPTION

Most fingering charts show the clarinet oriented as though the student is watching the teacher play. That perspective forces the student to flip the image around in his head, so he can figure out what stops to push on the clarinet currently in his hands. And flipping images around like this is very difficult for many people to do - especially children. This chart shows the clarinet as it appears from the view of the student looking down the barrel from the mouthpiece, with the clarinet held in his hands. In other words, it's exactly what he sees when he's trying to figure out a new fingering. No more mental flipping! Practice time goes much more smoothly, with a lot less frustration.

Bb Clarinet Fingerging ChartCreated by Jefferson Smith jeff@smithicus.com

This guide was created by fantasy author Jefferson Smith while composing music that would eventually become the theme music for his novel, Strange Places. Maybe it's odd for a novelist to compose music as part of his writing process, but we think it's odder still that he composed it on an instrument he'd never played before. Clear proof that he thinks outside the box, and we think you might find his stories equally thought provoking. If you'd like to check out the book that eventually grew out of this fingering chart, then by all means, check him out at CreativityHacker.ca
