GENERAL FACTS ABOUT UKRAINE

∙ Ukraine is the largest country in Europe by territory. Most of its land, 42.7 million hectares precisely, is used for agriculture. Agri-cultural land area of Ukraine equals to that of Germany and France together.

∙ Ukrainian food products are famous for their taste and purity as it gets more sunshine than most countries in the summer (due to high latitude and lack of rains), and a relatively mild climate. Around one third of the best soils in the world are located on the territory of Ukraine.

∙ Ukraine is increasing food and agricultural products exports most rapidly. Ukraine is already the number 1 global exporter of sun-flower oil and one of the largest exporters of grains and oilseeds. It is also the 3rd largest exporter of honey, beetroot sugar and the number 4 exporter of raspberries in the world.

∙ Ukraine is also rapidly increasing exports of poultry meat, dairy products, fresh fruits and vegetables.

∙ EU, with its very high quality and safety requirements, is the major importer of Ukrainian food and agriculture products including or-ganic products. As Middle East is important market for Ukrainian confectionery, many suppliers are Halal-certified, besides having ISO, HACCP and other quality and safety assurance certifications.

WHY UKRAINIAN SWEETS?

∙ Ukraine is probably the most competitive producer of sweets in the world as it has a very efficient large-scale domestic production of almost all key raw materials for confectionary: sugar, honey, wheat flour, milk powder and vegetable oils & fats. Moreover – all these products are of superb quality and have been approved to be export-ed to the EU market.

∙ Ukraine is using beetroot sugar in its confectionery products, which, unlike cane sugar, has no starch and dissolves faster. Thus, consum-ers feel the sweetness and the taste faster. Specialists also note that beet sugar has slightly different aroma, taste and aftertaste. Finally, beet sugar does not involve the use of bone char or coal-based acti-vated carbon, which can be applied to bleach and filter cane sugar.

∙ Today more than 100 countries in the world enjoy Ukrainian confec-tionery, including USA, Canada, China, EU, Central Asia and MENA countries.

∙ Two Ukrainian confectionery producers are members of the global «Top 100 candy companies» (2019): Roshen – #27; Konti – #44.
