Local AreaMarch is an increasingly popular and busy Fenland market town, approximately 18miles from the historic cathedral town of Ely. Situated on the banks of the River Nene which runs through the heart of the town, many afternoons can be spend sitting in one of the many bars watching the narrow boats go by. Also from Peterborough in 50 minutes.

Ely offers a wonderful blend of the historic and the modern. Take your time to wander and enjoy the sights or do something energetic or just sit and watch the world go by. Steeped in history Ely is principally renowned for Ely Cathedral, a magnificent building with its unique Octagon Tower which dominates the landscape for miles around.

The Cathedral you see today had its origins in the 11th century and the City of Ely developed around this awesome structure. You can wander around the magnificent building at your own pace or enjoy a more informative experience by taking a guided tour. Tours also include optional visits to the Octagon and the West Towers where the spectacular views make it well worth the climb!

The Cathedral is also a cultural centre and hosts many concerts and events throughout the year.

While in the Cathedral be sure to visit the Stained Glass Museum in the South Triforium. It houses a stunning collection of stained glass and is the only one of its kind in the country. An audio-guided tour is highly recommended as it tells the story of stained glass through the ages.

Oliver Cromwell’s House is the only remaining house used by Cromwell with the exception of Hampton Court Palace in London. Cromwell lived with his family in Ely for just over ten years and the house provides an evocative insight into 17th century life.

Ely also hosts three differing markets; from the award winning Farmers Market on the second and fourth Saturday of every month to the regular Thursday General Market and Saturday Craft and Collectables market.
