Man of La Mancha Production Meeting

Date: 5 May 2017 Location: War Room Announcements: None

In Attendance: Emma Dean (left at 3:30pm), Mary Ripper Baker (arrived at 3:25pm), Holly Rawls, Chris Sheley, Sydney Gallas, Ben Heston, Scott RC Levy, Kaetlyn Springer, Stephanie Bradley

Not in attendance: Jonathan Eberhardt

General: 1. We believe that Josh will only play the guitar in “Little Bird.” This may mean that the guitar comes in with the trunk. (Perhaps on Sancho’s back.) 2. The shields for Knight of the Mirrors and the 4 Muleteers need to be recognizable as shields on their own, but then come together. The concentration of mirror/reflective pieces should be on the shields.

The shields should be more facet-like than mosaic in the placement of mirror pieces. 3. We’re going to teach Joy’s music solo in “Moorish Dance” to Carmen. Joy will remove her mic as the bellydancer. a. This means we will not need to hide her mic transmitter. 4. For the Cervantes/Quixote transformation, there should be an old-fashioned make-up box that comes out of the trunk. This box should hold his Quixote identity. 8. Sitzprobe will be Tuesday, May 16. We will need to know by the end of next week if the band will be able to load in onto their platform. a. We will need video monitors and audio monitors ready for this. b. Actor call is 5:30pm. Downbeat is 6:00pm.

Scenic:

1. To create the kitchen, we will use one of the planks from the table and put it on top of two barrels, rather than using the Catherine wheel experience. We’ll dress it with items so that it becomes a countertop.

2. We are cutting the ladder that comes out of the hatch. We will need something that stays within the pit for the actors to come in/out of the pit and for Quixote to stand on when he’s in the bed.

Lighting:

1. Focus and running cable to all of the braziers will take a significant amount of time with the Genie. 2. On Monday, we will need to get a Rev back into the torm. 3. Holly is going to put Colorblasts in the hearth, so that the fire and the braziers can match. We may also use a

silk/fan experience for the fire that is similar to what we did in Other Desert Cities.

Props: 1. We will need two swords for Quixote, one that he can ride the horse with toward the top of the show, and the

other is the bent sword that he carries through the rest of the show (after the “Fight of the Windmills”). a. The sword wants to have a guard and be flat. (A rapier rather than an epe.)

2. Quixote’s shield should be something that comes from the world of the prison.

Man of La Mancha Date: 10 June 2017 Show Number: 11 Today’s Schedule: 7:30pm Top of Show Next Performance: 11 June at 2:00pm

House Count 398

Pre-Show Speech Record: 1 min

Act One 7:34-9:31pm

1:56:01 Performance Evaluation: Tonight’s audience was terrific! From the very beginning of the show, they were with us, cheering the first time Stephen said “Don Quixote de la Mancha.” We had issues with dead batteries twice tonight. Carmen’s mic was out for “I’m Only Thinking Of Him.” We were able to replace her battery after both iterations of the song were finished. Stephen’s battery died during the gypsy dance. Our only opportunity to change it was while his lower half was in the pit during the final bedroom scene. We passed a message on to him to expect it, and Morgan, Lisa, and Emma put a new battery in during “A Little Gossip.” Truly a spectacular feat by all four involved. Stephen held the blanket with extra care and never twitched a muscle as it happened. Mic issues aside, Stephen continues to halt the show with his applause for “Impossible Dream.”

Actor Notes: 1. David – You didn’t wait for Stephen’s reaction to

“This inn” before moving on to “I mean this castle” (page 17)

2. Muleteers – Your ripple was messy in “Little Bird.” 3. Stephen and Mike L – During “The Combat,”

getting the whip off the lance looked like a throw and catch this evening.

Sound: 1. The band was too hot at the top of “What

Does He Want of Me?” I couldn’t hear Aldonza’s “…but who can figure him out?”

2.

Lights: 1. I dropped cue 202.

Costumes: 1. The make-up box fell and the make-up

inside broke up. We will need a replacement.

Props: 1. The clanking of the cup has gotten worse it seems.

Sammie Joe never uses that cup. Could we attach it to his belt with something that is not metal so that it doesn’t clink anymore?

2. Sancho’s trumpet has been crushed again and will need attention before tomorrow.

Scenic: 1. Jeff, can you help Emma move the

mouthpiece from the current trumpet to our replacement trumpet sometime next week?

Administrative Notes: 1. We had people exit through the down house left

door this evening. Tim had an usher assigned to it, but he/she apparently did not actually watch it.

Music: 1. The band was too hot at the top of “What

Does He Want of Me?” I couldn’t hear Aldonza’s “…but who can figure him out?”
