Library CatalogYou can search the library catalog to find lots

of different types of library materials. Here are a few:Books (fiction, non-fiction, reference)DVDsMusic

The AIC Shea Library is part of a larger network of libraries in Central and Western MA called C/WMARS.

The library catalog:

Many ways to search:You can search for items by:

keyword (default) titlesubject author journal titleand series (for example, Harry Potter).

Don’t search the catalog the way you would Google. You won’t get the results you expect. It will try to find records that contain every single

word that you put in the search box.

Keyword Searching:Looks for that word or phrase anywhere in

Subject SearchingYou can also conduct a search by subject

(Library of Congress Subject Headings – LCSH).

Subject Headings: follow the clues

Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) provideclues to other materials that have are cataloged with the same headings. Subject headings are controlled vocabulary, and are a consistent way that libraries all over the world describe the contents of an item using the same terms. You can discover other items on the same subject by following the subject headings.

Check due dates.Renew your items. Pay fines.Check status of holds.

can see what items you have out, when they’re due, and how many renewals you have left.

Where are your holds?When you log into your library account, you

can find out the status of your holds.

Advanced Search

• Can search by keyword AND title.• Search by keyword, title, author.• Search filters: format, language, • Audience, library, publication year.• Shelving location.• More refined results. • Also can search by ISBN (numeric).
