A special message from our Head of Operations Karla Dunne

Everyday, I’m truly inspired by the support of dog lovers like you.

And if, like me, you believe every dog deserves the right to a happy and healthy life – now and into the future – then you will be interested to know that a gift in your Will can help make that a reality.

I know that making your Will is a very personal thing and naturally you will want to take care of your loved ones fi rst.

But maybe once you have looked after the people who matter to you most, you might consider leaving a gift to Dogs Trust? The gifts we receive vary in size from a few hundred euro to much bigger gifts depending on the persons wishes and circumstances.

Whatever gift you feel is appropriate, we are extremely grateful for every person who is able to remember the dogs here at Dogs Trust in their Will. Even 1% of what’s left after you take care of your loved ones can make a real difference.

Your amazing generosity will mean your love of dogs will live on forever.

You can be there at every step of a dogs journey to recovery, giving these dogs the much needed love and care they deserve with owners who will love and care for them.

If you would like to have a confi dential no obligation chat about leaving a gift in your Will please get in touch with our Fundraising Manager, Gillian McDermott on 01 879 1832.

Thank you for believing that every dog should live a happy and healthy life.

Warm regards,

Karla Dunne

ThankYou

Since Dogs Trust opened in 2005, we’ve

dramatically reduced the number of dogs

being needlessly destroyed from 48 per day to

under 5 per day, thanks to support from dog

lovers like you.

But this is not enough. Even one dog

destroyed is one dog too many. We won’t

stop until we bring about the day when all

dogs can live a happy life, free from the threat

of unnecessary destruction.

Your support for Dogs Trust will help us

reach this day faster.

You see, Dogs Trust receives no Government

funding so our work is only possible because

of the generosity of kind dog lovers who

support and believe in our work.

Our supporters helped build

our Rehoming Centre in 2009

and our special Puppy Wing

in 2014. And every year

they help us save and

fi nd Forever Homes for

thousands of stray and

abandoned dogs.

More and more people are choosing to

support our work by leaving a gift in their Will.

If it’s something you’re considering, let us tell

you how your gift can save more dogs lives.

Right now we have one Rehoming Centre.

But we need to keep growing. We need to

establish more Rehoming Centres across Ireland

so we can save as many dogs as possible.

We hope that when the time is right for you

to make or update your Will you’ll consider

including a gift to Dogs Trust – small or large.

Will you join us in building a better future for abandoned and neglected dogs in Ireland?

Amazing acts like a gift in your Will can achieve amazing things! The Dogs Trust Puppy Wing was built in 2014 thanks to the love and support of generous people like you.

People who chose to remember Dogs Trust in their Will played a huge part in turning this dream facility into reality.

The Dogs Trust Puppy Wing provides a home for up to 500 puppies and their mums every year. It was built as a direct response to the huge number of unwanted puppies and pregnant mums being abandoned in Ireland.

Unfortunately, many of them, like poor Pixie and her two puppies, come from failed Puppy Farms. Puppy Carer, Dione described Pixie’s behaviour when she arrived. “Pixie was terrifi ed, her entire life had been spent having litter after litter on a Puppy Farm. Her teeth had been left to rot, she had never been groomed or exercised.”

Thanks to our purpose designed Puppy Wing we were able to provide Pixie and her puppies with the expert care they needed.

They were placed in our special Whelping unit and cared for by our dedicated Puppy Carers.

Once her puppies were ready for adoption we were able to match them with loving owners who brought them to their Forever Homes.

Because of everything she’s been through we needed to fi nd Pixie a home that would offer her the extra love and understanding she needs. And an owner with the patience required to help her confi dence grow.

Dogs Trust are committed to matching every dog with the home that’s right for them. And that’s exactly what we did for Pixie. She’s now happy in her Forever Home with her new owner who’s giving her the love she deserves.

A gift in your Will can leave a legacy of love for dogs like Pixie and her puppies.

Rita & Tom’s Lasting GiftDog lovers Rita and Tom Cashman decided to leave a lasting legacy to the dogs of Ireland by including Dogs Trust in their Will.

The Cashman ClanTom, Ronnie, Rita & Holly

Eleven years ago Rita and Tom decided to get

their fi rst dog, it was then that they discovered

the real joy that comes with being a dog owner.

Today they share their home and their lives with

boxers Ronnie and Holly and their cat Dinky.

A few months ago the couple decided to

review their Will and make some changes. “We

went back and revisited it. We felt we wanted

to do more. Being dog lovers we wanted to

help give a voice to all the dogs who are being

mistreated. And so it seemed like there was no

better way to do that than by leaving a gift to

Dogs Trust.”

One of the most important factors for Rita

and Tom in making their decision was Dogs

Trust’s promise to never destroy a healthy dog.

Rita says the process of changing their Will

was really simple. “It was very easy we just

called the solicitor and she supplied us with

the wording we needed. We chose to leave a

residual gift which means whatever is left over

after all our debts are paid and the nieces and

nephews looked after, will go to Dogs Trust.”

The type and size of gift someone leaves

is completely up to them. Dogs Trust receives

legacy gifts of all sizes. Each gift, regardless of

size, is gratefully appreciated.

Rita and Tom’s generosity means that they

will provide care and protection for the animals

they love long after they’re gone. The legacy

they leave will make a real difference in the

lives of dogs who really need them.

A guide to including Dogs Trust in your Will

Your Will can help make your wishes clear to the loved ones you leave behind and it ensures the people you care for most are provided for.

Supporters often choose to leave Dogs Trust a percentage of what is left after loved ones have been looked after. This is known as a residual gift. Even 1% can make a real and lasting difference. Wording for including a residual legacy in a new Will:

I give all (or a —% share of) the residue of my estate to Dogs Trust Ltd

(Charity Number 20057978), Ashbourne Road, Finglas, Dublin, D11 K003,

for its general charitable purposes and I direct that the receipt of the

Treasurer or duly authorised offi cer shall be a valid and appropriate form

of discharge.

A codicil is a simple way to make specifi c changes or additions to your Will while leaving the remaining provisions untouched. Wording for giving a legacy to Dogs Trust by codicil:

‘I (name) of (address) declare this to be my fi rst codicil to my last Will dated (date). I give (details of legacy) to Dogs Trust Ltd (Charity Number 20057978), Ashbourne Road, Finglas, Dublin, D11 K003, for its general charitable purposes and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or duly authorised offi cer shall be a valid and appropriate form of discharge. In all other respects I confi rm my Will.

Some people choose to leave a pecuniary gift, this is the gift of a specifi ed sum of money.

Dogs Trust is happy to act as co-executor of your Will

should you wish. If you would like to have a confi dential

no obligation chat about leaving a gift in your Will please
