MSSA “New Ideas, New Possibilities” Conference – October 18-20, 2017MSSA would like to thank Trav-Ad Signs and Electric for opening their facility and hosting our conference. The Trav-Ad Signs and Electric personnel were extremely courteous and went out of their way to make MSSA feel welcomed. The amount of hard-work and planning from Sandi Singletary, Karen Nabors, Amy-Robby Gates and the whole Trav-Ad team was apparent and led to a successful meeting.
The insightful presentation of “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of Transitioning the Family Business” was presented with family humor. Roy, Sandi and Karen discussed the struggles and rewards of transitioning the day to day operations and ownership of a family business. The presentation drew the audience in, triggering many questions and lead MSSA toward thoughts of organizing a multi-layered seminar addressing transitioning within a family-run companies.
Larry Farris of Hendrick Manufacturing Corp and Doug Reedy of Piedmont Plastics gave a hands-on/up-close experience with CNC equipment. As one attendee stated, “The router is able to perform many functions of which were unknown to me.”
The tour of the 25,000 sq. ft. custom sign facility situated on 12 acres was educational and informative. MSSA thanks Trav-Ad for allowing us to tour its Graphics Department, Fabrication Stations, Paint Booth and other areas.
Thank you for the generosity of hosting MSSA’s “The New Ideas, New Possibilities.”

Thank You Notes from the 2017 Recipients of the MSSA Steve Metheny Scholarship Foundation
“Thank you so much once again for awarding myself the Steve Metheny Scholarship. Your generosity will help me to continue to pursue my education in psychology, in neuroscience and health and human services at Wake Forest University. It is truly such an honor to have received this award, and I cannot express my gratitude enough. I cherish this opportunity you all have helped to provide me with, and I will certainly put this scholarship to good use. I hope to one day become successful enough to pay this generosity forward. I wish you all the best!”
Katherine (Katie) E. Nelson
“On behalf of myself and my family, I would like to thank MSSA for the opportunity to apply and be selected as a 2017 recipient of the Steve Metheny Foundation Scholarship. This scholarship will help me in pursuing my dream of becoming a registered nurse. Thanks again.”
Hannah Pittman
“I cannot express how much I would like to thank you. Your support has been extraordinary and is one of the main reasons I am able to attend Rhodes College. With the rising cost of tuition many students rely on organizations such as MSSA to attend college. When I receive help from others, I feel compelled to give back to complete a cycle of generosity. The actions of MSSA has motivated me to give back in many ways. I can’t thank MSSA enough for allowing me to be who I am today.”
Connor Ross
“I am writing to thank you for your generous $1,564 Steve Metheny Foundation scholarship. I am honored to be chosen as a recipient of your scholarship.I am a senior Accounting major with a concentration in internal auditing. While my focus is on my education, I am also a member in LSU’s largest business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi, and a participant in LSU’s Center for Internal Auditing. Upon graduating Louisiana State University, I plan to pursue a degree in audit consulting. Amongst my studies, I also maintain two part-time campus jobs to cover expenses incurred. Your scholarship takes a great deal of weight off of my shoulders and for that I am grateful.Thank you again for your generosity and support. I promise you I will work very hard and eventually give something back to others, both as a teacher and possibly a scholarship to future students like myself.”
Amy Speer
“Thank you so much for awarding me with the Steve Metheny Scholarship. I am excited to say I will be continuing my education at Tyler Junior College. I will be studying Diagnostic Medical Sonography. I appreciate being awarded this scholarship very much. Thank you for allowing me to further my education with the Steve Metheny Scholarship.”

Steve Metheny Scholarship Foundation Thank You Notes Continued“I would like to thank the Mid-South Sign Association, Steve Metheny and Karen Warr for awarding me the MSSA scholarship. I’m sorry I couldn’t attend the conference this year as I have a part-time job. I had a lot of fun working at one of the booths last year! This will be my third year receiving the scholarship and I really appreciate what the association has done to help me accomplish my educational goals. I will be spending my junior year abroad in Japan starting in September and will use the scholarship towards my room and board during my time in Japan. Thank you, Mr. Steve Metheny and everyone else who helps with this each year.”
Katie Wilson
“I would like to give everyone in the Steve Metheny Scholarship Committee a big thank you for this award. My mom, Mandy Wisner, has talked about the scholarship program and her good friend, Mr. Steve ever since I was little. Mr. Steve’s generosity is one of the many reasons why I want to go into the sign business after college. If all goes right, one day I may be helping raise money for the scholarship program as a member. Joining the family business has always been an interest of mine, and am looking forward to pursue it after college. Thank you!”
Kayla Wisner
“I was thrilled to learn that I was chosen as a recipient of the Steve Metheny Scholarship Foundation. I plan to make MSSA proud by becoming a nurse practitioner that cares for others and their well-being, just as MSSA cares about its scholarship recipients. Thank you for your generous gift.”
Charon Marie Gates
“A sincere thank you for selecting me for the Steve Metheny Scholarship Award. This money will help further my college education as I continue to grow and learn. My father’s membership in MSSA has meant a great deal to him as his relationships and contacts continue to grow as well. Thank you for your support!”
Mitchell J. Yopp
“I was excited to know I was picked out of the many people who applied and am completely grateful of your support of my college education. I am currently a freshman at the University of North Alabama, majoring in Nursing, hoping to become a Labor and Delivery nurse.”
Emily Burtnett-Mack
“I am sincerely honored to have been selected as a recipient of the Steve Metheny Scholarship Foundation Award for the last four years. Thank you for your generosity, which has allowed me to continue my education at Newberry College.”
Barrett Walton
“I am truly honored to be granted this scholarship. I am a sophomore at The Military College of South Carolina, The Citadel with a major in Business.”
