    1. Introduction

The aim of this document is to collate and review all the existing documents, guidelines and

procedures relating to Final Year Projects (FYPs) from various Departments in the Faculty of ICT. This

material has been prepared by the FYP Harmonization Guidelines Working Group who has

produced this document which is the initial effort to produce a final Faculty-wide set of guidelines

for all matters relating to an FYP.

It should be noted that this document makes no attempts to recommend or enforce a Faculty-wide

method or procedure to assess FYPs. The method of assessment is left to the discretion of the

    department.

Also, currently, different departments may have different procedures and expectations for certain

components in FYP management. For example:

    1. Different Departments may wish to enforce different referencing styles in the FYP report.

This document does not attempt to eliminate these variations but bring them together in one place.

This document contains and refers to material:

    1. Published on the ICT Website of the University of Malta (http://www.um.edu.mt/ict, last retrieved October 2011).

    2. The document A Short Guide to Dissertation Writing published by the, then, Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.

    3. The document Notes for the Presentation of Final-Year Dissertations in the Faculty of Engineering by Prof. Robert Ghirlando.

Students are encouraged to read the Universitys official regulations on FYPs also.
