TUNA DE ENGENHARIA DA UNIVERSIDADE DO PORTO
The Portuguese word Tuna is used to designate a musical group playing cordophone instruments and singing. They are a tradition among university students. They sing popular songs typically devoted to student bohemian, love, saudade, etc. The songs may have a melancholic nature, somehow related with Fado, or naughty characteristics, joking with different aspects of the students’ life.
Each school of the different Portuguese universities can have its own Tuna. They are distinguished from
each other by the clothing of their members which, although having the same basis (black suit, white shirt and black cloak), have different details of color and symbols related with the school.
The Tuna of Engineering of the University of Porto was created in November 1988. It is the second eldest Tuna in the city of Porto still active, and the first one to be exclusive of a School. Since its beginning many other Tunas have been created, allowing the development of a musical movement closely related with Portuguese university life.

UNIVERSITY OF PORTO - FACULTY OF ENGINEERING (FEUP)
The Faculty of Engineering is the largest Faculty of the University of Porto and has a significant autonomy. With 90,000 square meters of campus, FEUP includes nine departments: Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Mining Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Department of Engineering Physics, Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, Department of Informatics Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Department of
Chemical Engineering. The nine departments together serve a community of approximately 7000 students.
The Faculty of Engineering goes back to 1837, when the Academia Polytechnica was created in Porto, replacing the early Nautical School (Aula Náutica), where the teaching of Engineering in Portugal had its origins in 1765. The name Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto was first used in 1930. In 1988, with the publication of the law on University Autonomy, the Faculty of Engineering was able to vote its first statute where its administrative, financial and pedagogic autonomy was sanctioned. FEUP pays strong attention to the Bologna renewal process and has transformed its educational programmes accordingly. Integrated master programmes of five-year duration were created for the several engineering branches of the Faculty.
The 10 courses offered by FEUP are accredited by the Portuguese professional association of engineers, the Ordem dos Engenheiros – OE. FEUP enjoys a very strong reputation all over the country, namely among its prospective students, and typically accepts just a percentage of the candidates that apply each year to the FEUP. The broad network of international cooperation is another of its many assets.

During the cocktail, we invite you to listen to a careful selection of classical music from some of the more important composers spanning several centuries, of timeless melodies that will include Scott Joplin's ragtime and some of the best 1960s and 1970s music, and also some of today's music hits. The music will echo throughout the night establishing several moods and sensations, recreating different environments that have made, and make us dream, and from which we hope your night may be filled with a particular glow and energy.

PORTO WINE CELLARS – FERREIRINHA
It is difficult to separate the history of the Ferreira family from that of the Douro Demarcated Region (set up in 1756) and of the commercial development of its Port and Douro Wines. Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira became a widow at the age of 33 and took charge of the company, which she consolidated thanks to her entrepreneurial spirit and charisma. With an exceptional energy and an unrivalled commercial acumen, she was able, despite the political troubles of her days, to give a great thrust to wine-growing in the Douro. Her intelligence and kindness earned the warm
admiration of her contemporaries, who nicknamed her “Ferreirinha” (“little Ferreira”). An interesting symbolic artefact is Ferreira’s logo which is an emu, an elegant bird that never walks backwards. It is under the name “Casa Ferreirinha” that the company’s Douro wines are traditionally sold in Portugal. In 198, when Sogrape Vinhos S.A. acquired the company of A.A. Ferreira, S.A., it also took on its cultural and historical heritage: the linkage between production and trade, the understanding of tradition as a factor of modernity, the focus on quality as a mainstay of the brand’s prestige.
Ferreira cellars are located in the historical area of Vila Nova de Gaia, by the Douro riverside. Given the significant tradition in Port Wine history of the “Casa Ferreirinha”, the original architecture of this astonishing space was respected. At the Ferreira cellars lies what is probably the largest and best collection of Ports from the 19th and 20th centuries, the oldest wine dating back to 1815.
Buses will be waiting for 12DBMC participants near the Porto Wine cellars “Ferreirinha” for the return to Porto after dinner. They will stop at Av. dos Aliados, Hotel Ipanema Porto, Porto Palácio Hotel, Hotel Ibis and FEUP.

PALÁCIO DA BOLSA – JEWEL OF THE XIX CENTURY ARCHITECTURE
Being founded in 1834, the Associação Comercial do Porto (Oporto Commercial Association – Chamber of Commerce and Industry) began the construction of its headquarters – the Palácio da Bolsa – in 1842 (these are two of the dates one can find in the corners of the ceiling of the Hall of Nations – 24th December 1834 and 6th October 1842).
Over three generations, many masters and craftsmen have worked together to build this XIX century architectural neoclassical style masterpiece. Important names in architecture, sculpture, painting and the decorative arts have contributed with their combined efforts to creating this unique building.
Classified as a National Monument, the building is, nowadays, an ex-libris of the city and receives, every year, over 200 000 visitors.
