Under the Patronage of H E the Minister of Energy of Bahrain Dr Abdul Hussain bin Ali
Mirza on Sunday 15 February 2015 at Hotel Crowne Plaza, H E the Minister of Energy
opened the Seminar “the 7th
International Seminar & Experts Meeting on RENEWABL
ENERGY for SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT” is a speech outlining Bahrain’s
commitment to sustainable development and the importance of renewable energy in the
country. H E thanked ISESCO and WREN for their continuing support of the Seminar and
outlined the growth of electricity and water supply in Bahrain. He thanked the participants
and wished them success in their deliberation. There were present at the Seminar 100 or more
participants among them 3 ministers, H E the President of Bahrain University Dr Ebrahim
Al-Janahi, Press and Television Media.

The Seminar was organized by the University of Bahrain and the World Renewable Energy
Congress/Network (WREN) with major sponsorship from the Islamic Educational Scientific
and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).
The Minister Dr Mirza also expressed the need for and the advantages of using Renewable
Energy in Bahrain. He expressed his thanks to ISESCO in sponsoring the Seminar and
thanked and praised the cooperation between University of Bahrain, and WREN.
Next Dr Fuad Al-Ansari- Dean of the College of Engineering gave the University of Bahrain
welcome speech and thanked ISESCO and WREN for their support. Then the ISESCO
representative, Dr Ali Rahal who thanked H E for his patronage and WREN, as well as, the
University of Bahrain for organizing such a timely event. He also conveyed H E Dr
Abdulaziz bin Othman Altwaijry’s greetings and good wishes for a successful meeting.

Finally Prof Ali Sayigh –chairman of WREC/WREN thanked H E Dr Mirza and the
University of Bahrain for organizing the Seminar for the benefit of the region. He also
expressed his thanks and appreciation to H E Dr Abdul Aziz bin Othman Al-Twaijri in
continuous support of WREN activities in the Renewable Energy and Clean Environment.
Prof Sayigh outlined the necessity for Bahrain to speed up its utilization of Renewable
Energy for the betterment of the Bahrain and the GCC countries.

AIMS OF THE SEMINAR
1-To make the audience aware of the importance and use of Renewable Energy (R E)
2- To identify the best forms and means of utilizing Renewable Energy in the GCC Countries
and in Bahrain in particular.
3- To explain the means of generating electricity from R E and putting the appropriate law in
place to introduce the feed - in tariff (FIT) in Bahrain.
4- To learn about projects and programmes of R E in the GCC states and globally.

1- Methods of generating electricity from R E
2- Appropriate construction of houses and building for energy saving and comfort.
3- Legislation and law for clean transport means
4- Reduction of CO2 emission by using RE in everyday life.

Three field visits were made: (1) to Bapco PV installations, (2) the University PV Farm, (3)
GPIC Gulf Petrochemical Industries Co. (4) Lunch and Distribution of the certificates at
GPIC Club.

Recommendations
That the economic, environmental and social importance of renewable energy to all
countries of the region be stressed and encouraged.
That the appropriate legislation be adopted to facilitate the immediate utilization of all
the abundant forms of renewable energy in the region.
To adopt robust educational policies to ensure that renewable energy technologies are
taught from high school to post-graduate levels.
To enact a strong public relation policy to encourage commercial and private support
for renewable energy.
To facilitate a continuing series of conferences, seminars and meetings to ensure the
dissemination of the most up – to – date technological advances in all fields of
renewable energy.
