CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1 BRIEF DESCRIPTION.

THIS IS A STATION IN THE CENTRAL SUBURBAN RAILWAY LINE. THIS STATION HAS IN ALL TWO PLATFORMS.

KANJURMARG EAST IS LARGELY POPULATED AS COMPARED TO KANJURMARG

WEST.

THERE ARE 2 FOBS. ONE AT SOUTHERN END AND OTHER AT NORTHEN END.

THERE ARE TWO ELEVATED TICKET WINDOWS ON THE FOB.

THE MAGNITUDE OF TRESPASSING PROBLEM AND THE REASONS OF TRESPASSING

AT KANJURMARG STATION HAVE BEEN STUDIED AT INCEPTION REPORT STAGE WHICH

HAVE BEEN PRESENTED TO MRVC AND ALSO SUBMITTED AS INCEPTION REPORT.

1.3 REASONS OF TRESPASSING AT KANJURMARG:

TO SAVE TIME AS THE WIDTH OF THE PLATFORMS ARE INSUFFICIENT TO CATER

TO THE OVERCROWDING ON THE PLATFORM ITSELF WHICH RESULTS INTO LOT

OF TIME BEING WASTED, IN REACHING THE PROVIDED FOB.

THE HEIGHT OF THE FOB IS VERY HIGH AND HENCE IS UNCOMFORTABLE EVEN

FOR NORMAL HEALTHY PERSON TO USE IT.

NUMBERS OF FOBS ARE INSUFFICIENT TO CATER TO THE PEAK HOUR NEEDS OF

PASSENGER TRAFFIC LEADING TO LOT OF OVERCROWDING ON THE FOB ITSELF.

LACK OF FACILITIES FOR PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED PEOPLE & SENIOR

CITIZENS; LIKE ESCALATOR, RAMP, ETC.

SMALL RAMP AT BOTH THE ENDS OF THE PLATFORM ALSO ENCOURAGES

TRESPASSING.

LAST MINUTE ANNOUNCEMENT OF CHANGE IN THE PLATFORM SCHEDULE FOR

ARRIVAL / DEPARTURE OF THE TRAIN.

HUMAN SETTLEMENT ALONG THE TRACK ALSO LEADS TO REGULAR

TRESPASSING BY THE INHABITANTS.

EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES LIKE MEDICAL EMERGENCY, PERSON WITH

HEAVY LUGGAGE, ETC. LEADS TO COMPULSORY TRESPASSING.

RAG PICKERS ARE REGULAR TRESPASSERS.

PEOPLE TRAVELLING WITHOUT PROPER TICKET TRESPASS IN ORDER TO AVOID

T.C.

PEOPLE ARE ACCUSTOMED TO TRESPASSING AND IT HAS BECOME A DEFAULT

BEHAVIORAL TENDENCY.

3.1 INTRODUCTION:

IN PRIVIOUS CHAPTER TROUBLE SPOT HAVE BEEN INDENTIFIED WITH RESPECT TO

KANJURMARG STATION. HENCE SOLUTION TO DISCOURAGE TRESSPASSING HAVE BEEN

WORKED OUT KEEPING IN MIND THE FOLLOWING 5 MAIN POINTS.

3.2 SOLUTIONS TO DISCOURAGE TRESPASSING AT KANJURMARG :

1. PROVIDE RCC WALL PARALLEL TO DOWN TRACK LEADING TO PLATFORM NO. 1 ON

THE WEST SIDE.

TO PREVENT TRESPASSING FROM KANJURMARG WEST TO PLATFORM NO. 1/2

2. WIDEN THE EXISTING NORTHEN FOB.

TO PREVENT OVERCROWDING ON THE FOB AND ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO USE THE FOB INSTEAD OF

TRESPASSING.

3. PROVIDE A GREEN PATCH ON THE NORTERN END AS WELL AS SOUTHERN END OF

PLATFORM NO. 1/2

TO PREVENT HEAVY EAST-WEST TRESPASSING

4. PROVIDE RCC WALL ON THE EAST SIDE.

TO PREVENT TRESPASSING FROM KANJURMARG EAST TO PLATFORM NO. 1/2

5. JOIN BOTH THE FOBs BY CONNECTING SKYWALK FOR IMMEDIATE EXIT ON EAST

SIDE.

TO FACILITATE EASY ACCESS TO KANJURMARG EAST NORTHERN END

6. CONNECTING THE SOUTHERN FOB TO THE EXISTING ROB BY SKYWALK ON THE

WESTERN SIDE OF KANJURMARG STATION. ALSO PROVIDE LANDING TO SKYWALK

ADJACENT TO ROB. TO PREVENT TRESPASSING ALONG THE TRACK FROM SOUTHERN END OF PLATFORM NO. 1/2 TO THE

ROB.
