INTRODUCTIONThis pioneering Medical College for Women was established in 1992, and was a ground breaking concept at that time. Moreover, it was envisaged to be a first step towards Women Empowerment in both our Health and Socio-economic sector.
Founded by eminent and distinguished citizens of the country, who not only excelled in their chosen field of Healthcare as Doctors and Academics, but also as Social thinkers and Philanthropists, such as, Prof. Dr. AQM Badruddoza Choudhury, Ex. President of Bangladesh (awarded “Independence day award” in 1993), late National Professor Dr. M. R. Khan (awarded “Ekushe Padak” in 2009 and “Independence day award” in 2016), Prof. Dr. Mujibul Huq and late Prof. Dr. Suraiya Jabin.
Though, it was originally set up to meet the need of our domestic health sector, its reputation soon attracted applicants from far and near, drawing students from India, Srilanka, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nepal. To address the safety and security concerns of parents of our foreign students, UMMC offers Residential facilities within its own campus.
AIMSThe aims of the Medical College For Women & Hospital is to teach specially selected female candidates for five academic years according to the syllabus laid down by Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) for MBBS degree to be conferred by the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and then impart training of closely supervised internship for one year to create high quality career doctors for the nation.
OBJECTIVES1. Introduction to newly designed community oriented medical & dental education includ ing MBBS course.2. To arrange training course for nurses, paramedical & medical social workers.3. To provide postgraduate students, training and research leading to certificate of diploma, degree, doctorate and post doctorate degree for strictly limited number.4. To meet the responsibilities of providing preventive as well as curative health care to the people of Bangladesh.5. To inspire to develop the essential character qualities, strong sense of righteous ness and a basic desire to serve the suffering humanity.

ADMISSION PROCEDUREEligibility for Admission (Session: 2018-2019)Eligibility for admission in MBBS/BDS course in Bangladesh Govt. and private Medical & Dental Colleges is approved by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (Medical Education Unit). Bangladesh govt. has formulated the following requirements for admission in MBBS/BDS course in the Govt. & private Medical & Dental colleges.
1. For MBBS course – Eligibility of candidates are as follows: (a) Students who have passed SSC in 2016 or 2015 and HSC in 2018 or 2017 with GPA 9.00. GP 3.50 in Biology at HSC Level is compulsory for all students. (b) Students having O & A level qualifications and foreign students having similar or equivalent qualifications should apply with certificate of equivalence issued from the Director General, Health Directorate, Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. (c) Foreign students will have to arrange attestation of their SSC(SSE) & HSC (SSCE) equivalence certificate & mark sheets from their foreign ministry and submit their papers through Bangladesh Embassy in concern countries. d) In case of national/foreign students admission will be invalid if any document is found to be false or wrong, before or after admission. No extra foreign/national students will be admitted in excess of the number already specified by the govt.of Bangladesh.
2. Admission will be made on the basis of results of the under mentioned examination: (a) Written test according to current syllabus of HSC course will be held in MCQ system and this examination will include Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and General Knowledge: Physics-20, Chemistry-25, Biology-30, English-15, General Knowledge-10 = Total 100 marks in written admission test. 0.25 marks will be subtracted for each incorrect answer. (b) On the basis of SSC & HSC or equivalent result, 200 marks will be evaluated as follows:

Admission ProcessApplication forms along with prospectus will be available from office of the Principal on payment of Taka 1000/- for local students who has undergone through the admission process conducted by the Director, Medical Education, Ministry of Health, Government of Bangladesh and selected for admission in Govt. and private medical colleges.
PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS: 2018-2019For Bangladeshi citizen:
1. Payment of admission fees and all charges will be made under the rules of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Peoples Republic of Bangladesh. Which will be paid by pay-order in favour of the “Medical College for Women and Hospital, Uttara, Dhaka-1230”.
2. Yearly tuition fees with other yearly charges are payable at the beginning of the year. Failing which they will have to pay 10% surcharge on the amount for default.
3. Tuition fees after 1st year to onwards payment will be made by pay order in favour of “Medical College for Women and Hospital, Uttara, Dhaka”.
4. Re-admission fee Tk. 1,50,000.00 (One lac fifty thousand taka only) plus usual tuition fees of the session will be paid by the students (if the student fails to attend her classes and ward for more than six months continuously).
5. All students will clear their tuition & others fees so long they continue their regular courses.
6. If they fail in the final professional MBBS examination, they will have to pay Tk. 25,000.00 (twenty five thousand taka only) for each attempt for all subjects and Tk. 8,355.00 (eight thousand three hundred fifty five taka only) for each subject.
7. All students will clear their hostel seat rent before appearing in 1st, 2nd, 3rd & final professional MBBS examination under Dhaka University.
8. Students who desire to live in hostel, will have to pay minimum 06 (six) month’s hostel seat rent in advance at the time of admission.
9. All students have to pay any other charges which will be imposed by the concern authority related to MBBS course, such as RFST, study tour, autopsy visit, etc.

MEDICAL EDUCATION UNITFundamental of quality of health care is the education and training of the doctors who deliver that care. Quality assur5anmce as the totality of systems, resources and information devoted to maintaining and improving the quality and standards of teaching, research and the students learning experience. Quality assurance involves monitoring of teaching, learning and assessment methods being practiced at the medical institutes. To help members of staff with their personal development the college make available an on-going programme of faculty development concerned with teaching and learning, assessment and evaluation, educational media, research methodology, research and technical writing, management and information technology. These programmes are offered locally by the Medical Educational Unit. The academic council considers as required the views of staff on the operation of scheme and makes appropriate recommendation.
JOURNALThe “Journal of the Medical College for Women & Hospital” is a publication of Medical College for Women & Hospital, a project of The Medical & Health Welfare Trust, Uttara, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The Journal is a peer reviewed journal published twice each year, in January and July. The journal is recognized by the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BM&DC), Dhaka, Bangladesh and recorded in the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) register, Paris, France with ISSN 1996-0468.

INSTRUCTION FOR THE STUDENTS1. Students have to attend classes and ward placements regularly in clear white coloured apron with their identity tag on the front side.2. Students should have all the prescribed books, dissecting instruments, medical equipments of their own classes, demonstration, ward duties, field visit etc.3. All students must attend their ward schedule and classes in time. If they fail to attend or absent from classes and/or wards, for reasonable came to be informed to principal office through subject and phase coordinators.4. If any student is absent from classes and/or wards for 03 days or more subsequently, will have to submit an application explaining the cause of absence signed by the student & parents to the principal.5. Students found absent from classes without prior permission or definite cause will have to explain and satisfy the administration, otherwise administrative measures will be taken and parent or guardians will be informed.6. Absent from classes in group or in mass without prior permission and valid reasons are liable to disciplinary, financial & punitive action. The parents or guardian will be informed.7. Minimum requirement of class attendance to appear college and university examination is 75%. In this regards no undue consideration will be given by the subject/phase coordinators and admin istration.8. After getting MBBS admission, all original academic transcript and certificates (SSC & HSC) will have to submit to the college authority for minimum 02 years. In case of emergency, student will get the photocopy of the said documents as per procedure.9. Clinical performance repost (3rd year-5th year) will be maintained as master Log Book.10. Students must use college library. Books for home issue for short time may be permissible.11. Students residing in college hostel will have to abide by the Hostel rules and regulations. Any violation of the hostel rules will be dealt with cancellation of seat.12. Cost of damage or loss to college/Hospital/Hostel property is liable to be realized from students found responsible for the loss or damage.13. Students are expected to maintain social and religious harmony.14. Parents/Guardian will be informed about student’s academic records time to time.
CONCLUSIONThe college aims at improving medical education producing doctors of international standard and health care delivery with the present day concept of community oriented medical education and training which will have relevance to the need of the country. It is intended to bridge the gap between the need and resource for the development of Female Education maternal and child welfare and other research to assist the government in its health program.
