Motivation

The desire to monitor the condition of a given road without being there physically.

Part of the “Wisdom Stone” project

Taking it to the “next level” – Relaying the information.

Page 3: Final-Presentation Project “Kuala” Winter 2014 High Speed Digital Systems Lab Presented by: Stephen Taragin Supervisor: Boaz Mizrachi

“The Wisdom Stone”Small electronic devices placed under

the roads in various places.Gathers information about the physical

state of the road by means of sampling the vertical acceleration of the road while vehicles drive over.

Each stone processes the information and relays it to the hub, who then relays it to the measurement control center where it will be determined if something is wrong with the road.

The Overall System

Page 5: Final-Presentation Project “Kuala” Winter 2014 High Speed Digital Systems Lab Presented by: Stephen Taragin Supervisor: Boaz Mizrachi

Project Goal Design and build an electronic

hub which will enable relaying the information gathered by the wisdom stones under the ground to a control center.

Creating the ability to remotely maintenance the hub with zero to little physical presence.

Maintenance – "Watchdog" The maintenance is a software to be

programmed in the CPU of a wisdom stone placed in the hub which can control the status of the phone, battery and solar panel charger.

The maintenance should maintain the functionality of the hub and it’s components without physical presence.

The maintenance should be able to restart the cell phone in an event of software failure, other problems.

The maintenance will receive a signal indicating the current battery level as well as other signals indicating the status of the charge controller.

Controllers 1 and 2 are connected to the Wistone CPU and to the rest of the electrical components of the hub.

Phone power and phone battery are controlled by relays (normally open/normally closed).

DC/DC converter to lower input voltage.Voltage divider to proportionally lower

battery level when checking its status since the CPU can accept inputs up to 5V.

ProgrammingModified existing Wistone codeAdded support to Kuala cardFound the pins which are

connected to the required components and programmed them to get the correct inputs and to give the correct outputs

This was done in accordance to the chip’s datasheet.

SummaryThe Kuala project is an integral

part of the Wisdom Stone project. The project was designed to

cover many, if not all of the stages from an idea until it’s completion in order to achieve the set goals.

The project was a great learning experience
