    HIGH POINTS OF FICTION

    Whythis book ????

    Probably the funniest doctor-themed bookyou'll

    ever read

Doctor in the House is Gordon's account of his

    medical training in post-war London.

Although the hospital, St. Swithin's, is fictitious, the

    nurse-chasing, pub-crawling, rugby playing lads

    Gordon lives andw

    orksw

ith are all too true, as is thehilariously condescending surgeon who trains them.

    LITTLE LIGHT ON THE PLOT

Doctor in the House begins with the lead protagonist

getting into a fictional medical college in London, St.

    Swithins.

He collects a handful of faithful friends, including

Grimsdyke, whose main aim to remain an eternal

student as his aunt has left a large legacy in his name,

for the duration of his course (as the funds will cease

once he qualifies, he prefers to fail every examination).

    13/20

    Continued.

The book goes through the trials and tribulations of

their college lives-sports, studies, spats with teachers

and love affairs. Snippets like using a human skull as an ash-tray

and trying to weasel out of tight situations in

examinations will strike a chord not only in every

doctor and medical student, but also in anyone who

    has ever attempted an examination!

    Continued

In one of my favourite incidents,Richard (the hero)

is asked to check a patients eyes with an

ophthalmoscope. He says I always intended to find

out how this thing worked, but never got around todoing it Further, on checking the patients eyes, his

comment was that it looked like fishes swimming in

an aquarium full of murky water. Luckily for him,

he was able to wriggle out of the situation by asimple trick, and eventually passed the examination!

    REVIEW

    REVIEW

People are aware of the slightly raunchy comedy

films loosely based on the works ofRichard Gordon.

The book is full of incidents which will keep you

    laughing page after page.

Hindi films are a lot worse!!

This wonderful book by Dr. Richard Gordon is

extremely amusing. Do not worry about medical jargon.
