Brotherly Love

I took this picture while the boys were playing in the pool. Jonathan is a hard subject to take a photograph of. He is severely developmentally disabled and deaf. He is a happy child, but it is so hard to catch those moments on camera. His older brother Sean was throwing him around in the pool and dunking him under the water. This picture was taken right after they resurfaced. His older brother is wonderful with him and plays with him every chance he can get. For a fourteen year old, he has to be one of the most patient and loving brother. I love this shot because it captures his playful and joyous spirit as well as really shows the amazing relationship between the both of them.

Natural Beauty

In the world we live in we are almost accustomed to traffic lights, strip malls, cell phone towers, and houses of every shape and color. Not much in our daily lives really isn’t impeded by technology and growth. This photograph really highlights the natural beauty of the world around us. This is about an hour and a half north of where I live in New Hampshire, which really is a short drive to experience serenity. When taking this picture it is humbling to stand beneath this vast view. I love the tones and shadows of the green against the mountains. I also feel that this photo captures the height and the vastness of the view.

New England Charm

I took this photograph in Henniker, New Hampshire. My boyfriend and I went for a ride on a Sunday and we saw a boat launch sign off of 202, so we took it and headed to the boat launch which was a nice place. I didn’t notice this on the way down because there were horses across the street. On the way back through this barn caught my eye. The way the light was hitting the metal roof was really highlighting the detail of the wood on the side of the barn. Although it doesn’t show in this shot there was beautiful landscaping done beside the road as well.

Summer Reading

I took this picture for week five’s shot sheet of an open book. I took this shot in my four season porch on the wicker couch, where I usually read. It was late in the afternoon and the way the sun was coming into the window casted a nice natural light onto the page of the book. I took this picture to really focus on the pages and the way they fall in a soft-cover book. I’m not a fan of the kindles and alike devices. I love the feel of pages in my hands and also there is a certain smell to a book that is calming to me. I also really liked the pattern and texture of the wicker in the arm of the couch against the light coming in from the windows behind me.

Orange Lily

I took this picture at one of my friend’s houses. I was leaving and on their fence I noticed these daylilies were blooming. Lilies are one of my favorite flowers to begin with and the bright orange caught my eye. They are such a common occurrence as driving down the road this year they were blooming everywhere. I love how the orange color really stands out against the green leaves. I also love how the colors vary throughout the entire flower, how it gets darker and turns yellow in the middle. I love this picture so much that I actually got this printed and will be framed.

The Perfect Morning

I took this picture at North Beach in Hampton, New Hampshire. This was taken during my mid-week surprise three day getaway. My perfect morning consists of not being in a rush to go anywhere, coffee, and the view of an ocean. The way the sunlight casted off the water created a look that almost makes the water look as if it were chrome. The shot also captured the never ending appearance of an ocean. I love how the sunlight is also casting in between the waves. It makes the waves more prominent in this shot. I also love the shadows of the clouds in the sky.

The Peaceful Pier

This photograph was taken in Hampton, New Hampshire. We were driving down the road and you could see where the high tide has eroded parts of the land, so I went down this dead end road and found this. I absolutely loved the dock in this picture. The wood had a distressed look to it and it looked like it had been there for many years. In fact, when my boyfriend stood on it, it bowed under his weight. This image was altered in Photoshop, but I really like the warmth feel of the photograph. I love the dramatic appearance of the sky and the water as well as the simplicity of the dock.

I took this picture in Franklin, New Hampshire on the opposite side of Franklin Falls Dam. It was around 8:00 P.M and I loved the way the sun was casting upon the water. There are certain spots all around New England that I go to think and reflect upon a bad day. I was having a bad day, therefore, I wound up here. I’m not sure why I took this shot with the trees in the forefront, but I did and I like it. The trees are dark and although take away from the beautiful blue sky that day, I feel they add a nice touch. I love how the trees are reflected upon the water and you can see their reflection. Like most of my pictures, this picture sparks the emotion of the memory of the day it was taken. No matter how terrible a day can be, beauty is right around the corner.

Beauty and the Brick

I took this picture for one of my still life shots. Our week five shot sheet was really difficult to me. Taking pictures of objects to make it an interesting composition was a challenge to me. I wanted the camera to capture the beauty and the detail of the objects so I learned that using different angles and lighting was very important. I was taking pictures of some flowers in a vase on our fireplace. I decided to take one flower out and drape it on the hearth. I’m really proud of this picture. I think the lighting in the picture is perfect, that the hearth and the flower are in the forefront and bright while the background is dark and a little blurred. I also really love how each petal really stands out from the angle.

Just To Get A Bite…

I took this picture at Cape Neddick, Maine, which is better known as Nubble Lighthouse in York ,Maine. I was sitting on a bench as the high tide was beginning to come in. I was drawn to watching this fisherman on the rocks below. The waves that were coming in were starting to appear as if they were taller than him. I shot a sequence of pictures as the spray began to get larger. This one is my favorite because the spray practically hides the fisherman. Life is a lot like the ocean; It is unpredictable and can leave you cold and wet if you let it. But if you see the beauty in it, it can warm your soul.

…The End

This was an amazing class and I have learned a lot about photography as well

as about myself. I have found myself looking at things differently than I did in

the beginning of class. I really have appreciated the positive environment as

well as seeing the world through the eyes of my classmates.

Thank- you!
